What drew those people in? His inability to act. Good looks are not enough to gross that amount of money. Those movies were successful. He was the lead. He carried us through the story from beginning to end. And we liked it. That was acting.
no it was not!!! and really i'm not seriously arguing with you here, because it's all just opinion...but people pay to see movies because of hype. he happens to be in big budget movies time and time again. people pay to see the matrix because of special effects and action sequences...not for keanu's acting. do you seriously watch keanu and think, "man...that guy is a great actor!!"???? I can't imagine watching him and thinking that. everything is soooo forced with that guy.
I think it says I wanted to bite her neck...there's probably some truth there. Actually, it was a date for a sociology class in college...we were both dating other people back home, but had become really good friends. We had to go on a date where the roles were reversed..she buys, opens the door for me, etc. It was fun. We were close friends for 2 years before we started dating...everyone thought we were dating, but we weren't. It was completely platonic. She was truly my best friend at college. But of course all of that is tainted by the foundation of that drunk old Irishman, Bram Stoker! Damn you, Bram!! Damn you!!!
No no, no, I LOVED Wayne's World! In fact, when Jeff and I went to see it, it was my fifth time seeing it at the theater. I was just wondering what kind of omen that was for our marriage. I also have to agree with Max about Keanu in big-budget action movies. I doubt many people are going to see The Matrix because Keanu is in it. The special effects are the true star of those films -- Keanu is just a supporting player. I think you could plug just about any young, athletic actor in that role and not lose anything in the translation.
Not one movie has been better than The Matrix since it came out in 1999. It is partly due to both IMO. They picked the perfect guy for this role, he had to have a dumbfounded and downright puzzled look on his face for the first 2 hours of the movie. Just think of being in the situation he was in....there's no way you wouldn't be puzzled, almost showing no emotion at all times.
Not even Keanu himself thinks Keanu Reeves is a good actor. He knows he isn't terribly good and has admitted it. He said he did a terrible job in Dracula too. That he's honest about it wins him so brownie points for me so I like him fine.
I think Keanu is a good actor. I think people love to bash him because it makes them feel cool. He is a good actor, not a great one. And he has limited scope. I really liked Keanu in the Matrix movies. And he even dabbled in Shakespeare with his appearence in Bragnaugh's "Much Ado About Nothing." Also, he's half asian like me. So I like him for that too. Mrs. JB - You are just bitter. Go kill some meat-eaters or something, remove your canine teeth, etc.
Why is "the Matrix Reloaded" losing its audience so quickly. The past two weeks it has suffered a 60% + loss in ticket revenues BOTH WEEKS. I thought this was a sure fire $300 million dollar maker. What happened?
How many rated R movies have grossed $300 million? It was a blind prediction, especially since dumb**** reviewers said it wasn't good, mainly because they didn't understand the movie at all.
Bruce Almighty and Finding Nemo happened. The big "blockbuster: movies released during the Summer season usually have huge openings followed by big declines, because a new event movie is released on an almost weekly basis. Plus, Sci-Fi sequels usually get most of their business from the hardcore fans of the first one, who flock to see it as soon as possible. Plus, The Matrix doesn't have the built in fan base the size of a Star Wars or a Spiderman or a Harry Potter... Plus, NYK mentioned the R-rating factor, which I don't think is as big as some people make it out to be. There were plenty of kids in the audience when I went to see Matrix: Reloaded, one of them kicking the back of my chair the entire time...
You're right. No rated R movie has ever grossed over $235 million. The record is held by the Eddie Murphy hit "Beverly Hills Cop" but it will soon be eclipsed by "The Matrix Reloaded". http://movieweb.com/movie/alltime.html
It isn't that good. Nice special effects, slow developing story. Its only a set up for the next movie.
You might be able to stand him as a person but you have to admit, he brings every movie he's in down a notch or two. And I want to echo Mrs. JB: naked Keanu is not an appealing sight.
I agree with your assessments of Keanu's acting ability(or lack thereof). They could have used Jean Claude Van Damme or Vin Diesel and the Matrix would still be a cool movie(maybe slightly less with Jean Claude). Party on Mrs. JB!
duh... of course the movies make keanu. but... what about this...?... who else would play the role better than him? who could you picture as neo? vin diesel? can't see it. some coworkers and i were talking about this some time ago and came up with... brandon lee (who is dead) or johnny depp. they have to have that dark, gloomy, goth thing going on i guess. but yeah, the movies "make" keanu. here's a link to somebody's revised matrix script .
Did anyone see his Godawful performance in Much Ado About Nothing? The movie itself was fantastic (how could it not be) except for his awful, awful scenes. Just thought I'd throw that in... That said, I think Ted was his best character ever. They should do another sequel.
Two words: Johnny Mnemonic Keanu couldn't act his way out of a paper bag. Unless of course, he was playing the paper bag.
Due to the movies. very ****ty actor. I liked Dracula. your mean mrs. jb. You haven't seen very many movies to make such a broad statement such as that. For proof I submit movies such as Pearl Harbor Darkness Falls Bullet Proof Monk Shanghai Knights the Postman ... yadda yadda yadda yay.
