Give clippy credit, he says stupid things to denigrate lots of players, not just Kobe.

He's just more annoying when he's talking about players others than Kobe.

A lot of players draw iffy fouls, like Kobe. Why don't Kobe and Harden shoot 50%? Saying Durant only shoots 50% because he gets to the line a lot is ridiculous.

Yeah, never heard anyone credit a 50% fg because they go to the line a lot..

Why not attack the argument instead of the poster? Do you honestly think Durant doesn't get cheap calls, or that it seems right that he is getting way more FTs than anyone else in the league? I am not saying he isn't a great player-- he would be MVP if not for the absurd year LBJ is having-- but I am addressing the initial post and telling you that his shooting numbers are inflated because of sone rather speculative calls.

I promise you that once Durant wins a title and OKC builds up some rivalries, he will start to get some hate and won't be looked at as the golden boy everyone thinks he is.

Is the logic really that hard to parse? When you get to the line a lot, it makes your FG% higher because shots that would be misses don't get counted. Durant is barely shooting 50% so it stands to reason that he would be shooting under 50% if he gepot even one less iffy call per game.

Kobe is actually a great example this because he has the worst sgot selection in modern NBA history but has managed to preserve a respectable 45%ish shooting percentage because he gets bailed out so much.

I don't really agree with Clippy's argument but here is some food for thought.

The current league leaders in going to the charity stripe are also the top players driving to the rim. Naturally you would asume that they would get FTs.

What makes Durant's case so crazy is the guy gets most of his FT attempts on straight up jumpshots. He is 34th out of players who drive to the rim to get their points. Harden, Westbrook, Lebron are all top 10.

Have you considered that, maybe, just maybe, if he didn't get fouled, he would make the shot and actually have a higher fg%?

You want to throw ideas out there.. there's one for you

    You know what, Clippy?

I took a step back and thought about it.. your argument actually does make sense. Kudos.

    Stole this from another forum:

We take the top 5 point scorers in the league:

    1. Kevin Durant-OKC 1865
    2. Kobe Bryant-LAL 1813
    3. LeBron James-MIA 1700
    4. James Harden-HOU 1689
    5. Russell Westbrook-OKC 1532

Also the top 5 Free Throw made players in the league (which happen to be the same players):

    1. Kevin Durant-OKC 561
    2. James Harden-HOU 557
    3. Kobe Bryant-LAL 415
    4. Russell Westbrook-OKC 369
    5. LeBron James-MIA 333

And we rank them based on how many of their points came from freebies:

    1. James Harden-HOU 557 out of 1689 32.97%
    2. Kevin Durant-OKC 561 out of 1865 30.00%
    3. Russell Westbrook-OKC 369 out of 1532 24.08%
    4. Kobe Bryant-LAL 415 out of 1813 22.89%
    5. LeBron James-MIA 333 out of 1700 19.58%

    Attempts At the Rim
    1. Monroe 471 Attempts converting 61%
    2. Westbrook 401 As converting 62%
    3. Lebron 395 As converting 79% !!!
    4. Lee 375 As converting 69%
    5. Harden 369 converting 64%

    Conclusions:
    - Harden, West and Lebron are going at it at a high clip, quite normal they are gifted with some freebies.
    - D whistle is 12th on this list, not bad for a tosb
    - Bryant is 16th but second in FTs total Attempted and no he doesn't draw more FTs because Defenders are obliged to fool him to avoid automatic mid range, his FG% suck.
    - Kevin Durant, I had to go deep in the list, he is 35th on the list !

stockton never hit the fabled 50 40 90, but that totals 180. stockton hit the 180 once ray never has. does that mean stockton is a better shooter, no, but he was deadly. he hit the 180 in 97 btw, the year he hit the shot

When all is said and done, and assuming he can stay healthy, I believe Stef Curry will go down as the all time greatest shooter.

Funny that the thing keeping LeBron from making it this year is the free throws.

You argument makes sense only if a lot of the fouls aren't legit (the defender does not touch him).

I find the five by five more impressive. Hakeem is the five by five king.

    Is this sarcasm?

If not, you're really using the ASG as an example of fundamentals?

Nope I am not, that was pure opinion and bias. No substance in that post, just my reservations about him.

What is true is that Durant picks up the most ticky tacky fouls out of anyone in the league. Its pretty ridiculous. This statement does have basis and I have provided evidence.

Although I'd give Lebron a slight edge at this point, it isn't like he is by far and away better than Durant. Their stats are nearly identical in every aspect except assists. But LeBron is their primary ballhandler where it's Westbrook in OKC.
