Just realised that Durant is on par to become the sixth player in NBA history to shoot 50% fg, 40% 3pt, 90% ft. I've always been fascinated with this elite club because to me it is the epitome of the anti-volume chucker.

All the more impressive because he is generally the focus of opposition defenses and throughout the course of the season is forced to take a lot of tough shots. The other 5 players that have achieved this feat are Larry Bird (2 times), Mark Price, Reggie Miller, Steve Nash (4 times) and Dirk Nowitzki. He's in good company with some all-time great shooters.

He would also be the first in history to join the 50/40/90 club while leading the league in scoring.

Still only one member in the 60-80 club IIRC.

His shooting percentage would be a lot worse if he didn't lead the league in cheap fouls.

I used to like Durant. After watching the All Star game I realize how much he cherry picks his shots and where his priorities lie. I don't think I had ever seen a player chuck away so bad to get AS mvp before.

Just shows ya how otherworldly LeBron is, since Durant is having an insane year.

That's because LeBron does it all. Points, assists, blocks, steals, rebounds, etc. He is the best offensive player and the best defensive player on the team. He may be the best playmaker as well. He's not a jack of all trades, he is a master of all trades.

Durant is great, don't get me wrong. But outside of being an unbelievably gifted scorer with unprecedented efficiency, he isn't the same beast LeBron is.

Also Nash is on pace to make it his 5th time onto that list.

Incredible player, unfortunate Robert Horry incident that I believe cost the Suns the title that year.

Nash's season isn't going to count because he won't reach the minimum 300 field goals required to make the list.

You are correct. A couple other guys who got regular minutes have gotten 60-80 (and of course a bunch of much smaller sample sized guys):

Dave Twardzik and David Lee, both of whom averaged 10 ppg when they did it.

Yeah, not to mention he's averaging 8 boards and 4 and a half assists. He's basically Dirk with better handles and better defense.

...and yea, still not better than Lebron.:p

Yet Russell Westbrook still takes more shots than him at 19 per game. Thread officially derailed! :)

in that regard, larry's is the only one that really compares (28.1 and 29.9) in terms of volume, sure he didn't lead the league in scoring, but that's not really a fair comparison.

Where's the confusion? Have you watched Durant? He gets to the line constantly for players barely touching him, maybe because he's so slightly built. Despite the flak LeBron took last week for complaining about the refs, he has a legitimate gripe when you compare the calls he gets vs what Durant gets.

For those not aware of this, when you take a shot and are fouled, it doesn't count as a shot. Ergo, when you draw a lot of iffy fouls like Durant, your shooting percentage will look better than it really is (and also people will think you don't get as many shots as your teammate when in truth you are getting more).

60-80 has to be a big man. There's no way you can shoot 60% from the perimeter. 20-60-80 is pure domination.

50-40-90 is about shooting. You have to be a great shooter to be able to do that. The "50" part is the hardest. Bird, Price, Miller, and Nash are all time great shooters. As great a shooter as Ray Allen, he has never achieved 50% shooting in any season.
