Joe Sandberg was just sentenced to 14 years in prison. Then he spoke with the NBA and provided them with documents. So there is a good chance Kawhi will be a free agent. No team will trade for him till it's determined what will happen to the Clippers.
There are mixed signals around the NBA on the subject of his availability and the possibility of him being moved, with reports circulating that the two-time Finals MVP would be open to reuniting with his former teams, San Antonio and Toronto, though the Houston Rockets could also be part of that mix, per one source. One league source I spoke with said that the Clippers are absolutely not moving him, preferring to let the last year of his contract play out to preserve future flexibility, but still seeing Leonard, who turns 35 on Monday, as part of their future. Others say the opposite, maintaining that the relationship has run its course and that the Clippers largely would “like out of the Kawhi business” so much they aren’t thought to be driving a particularly hard bargain. There is also the matter of the ongoing NBA investigation into whether the Clippers circumvented the salary-cap rules to sign Leonard to his current deal. Another wild card.
All this rebuilding to end up with a super old super team? Do we really think both KL and KD stay healthy a full season? It could be an exciting yr, but I’m not giving insignificant assets for a 1yr shot with super old players.
We can trade Kd straight up for Leonard. Clippers save a little cap space. We get the better all around player and person. Then sign n trade Tari for a 20m SG that can shoot and play defense. Would you do it? Amen, SG, Kawhi, Jabari, Sengun.
