Those people oin Fairfield are making my drive from Cypress get worse every day. Thank God for the HOV lane. SwoLy - I still have friend who live in Katy but I doubt I'll ever go back to live. I like the trees on the NW side.
VoodooPope: What trees you talkin' bout, Willis? Pretty soon that will all be neighborhoods, just like Katy. My neighborhoods used to be cattle fields and horse-trailer arrival parks, and now they've been kicked out for developments. I am with RocketMan95 on this one. I believe it will take FOREVER (meaning 20 Houston years) for I-10 Katy to be packed again. When I arrived to Houston, the 290 was a relatively "new" construction, and now it takes longer to get to BeltWay 8 from 610 than the Katy does... even with construction .
I'm lazy and I don’t like to be depend on others or have others depend on me for driving, I also like to leave the office and do things at the drop of a hat..
nice one, updawg, now say WHY. I am lazy too, so I have a solution for you: drive to the park n' ride, pick up one person before 6:45 (two after 6:45 and before 8:00), ride the HOV with them, drop them off only on the route of the bus (don't do anything special like take them to a place where the bus doesn't stop), and you would have saved 20 to 40 minutes off your driving time. I do that when I don't carpool. Some of you may have already ridden in my red corolla.
I-10 will be 10 lanes on each side...it will get better but not right away, maybe a few years from now. i grew up in katy then finally moved to sugarland 2 yrs ago... westpark does have traffic during rush hr and they should have made more than 2 lanes on each side, but it is quicker than I-10
In a few years all ten lanes will be another parking lot. they can keep adding lanes, there will be plenty of cars from palaces like Katy to fill them up. At least HOV works (it is a pretty impressive construction project though)
I work in the galleria area and live in Westchase. I have a house in the Wilcrest & Westheimer area. Houses are fairly affordable, I bought my 1,700 sq foot house out there last summer for $149,000. My work hours are 7:30-4:30. Going straight down westheimer it usually takes me about 20 minutes to drive to work, and closer to 30 minutes to get home. The name of my subdivision is April Village.
You wanna make a bet, updawg? I doubt your "few years" will be the parking lot, compared to my "20 years". How many is "a few"? You meant "places" instead of "palaces", didn't you?
Katy's not *that* bad...but it just wasn't for me. If you LOVE high school football and/or plan to raise kids who play, Katy is perfect. One of my friends from high school who played actually moved to Katy from Pasadena just to play for the Tigers. Katy is nice, you've got the mall to amuse you, plus the Cinemark (I live RIGHT by the Cinemark, at Mason and Franz...it's convenient). Mary Jo Peckham Park is a nice plus for Katy, because it offers free aerobics classes, use of the exercise machines and indoor pool, and of course the man-made lake...I like the outdoors and I like free stuff, so that's always cool. Basically, Katy is nice, but as I grew older I found myself venturing into Houston every day, just because there is a broader array of different people and things are more interesting when you leave suburbia. I like going to the water wall/galleria area and to Montrose and the Heights to visit friends, it's all just more real and exciting to me. Of course, now living in Waco...I had no idea how good I had it. I'd pick Katy over Waco 100/100 times. Mainly, because Rockets games aren't aired here, and I'm sure many of you have experienced the hell that IS not being able to watch them. (prayer of thanksgiving for ESPN broadcast tomorrow). Now, Katy over other places in/near Houston....I'm not sure. That's just for me, though. Katy *is* a terrific place to raise a family.
ok so which is the better commute? KATY...OR WOODLANDS? I still would pick the Woodlands/Spring over Katy.
I have another non-Katy option for you. Around Bingle/Hollister and West Little York. There is a fair amount of new construction, some starting from the 110s, some from the 140s, and it is about 30 minutes straight down Bingle to the Galleria area (Voss and Westheimer). It is pretty quiet, and if you ever need to have a downtown job, you can also take the Park & Ride.
