He's 32? Really? Well, that makes him 20 years younger than Deke!

Correction, Bourousis could be on the Rockets shopping list. He supposedly has a clause in his contract to leave for the NBA.

There's a thread on realgm rumoring about Morey looking at Bourousis. After doing some research, I can see why.

    1. He's got legit center size (6'11" 265 lbs).
    2. He's a very good rebounder, top 3 in euroleague adjusted per minute.
    3. He shoots a high percentage, got nice touch around the basket, and has range out to three.
    4. He's still pretty young at 25.
    5. And most importantly, he's got an out clause for the NBA this summer.

He could be a perfect back-up for Yao. His size and skills alone should make him worth a scola-type deal (3m per year).

A dated draftexpress article (but it does mention his NBA out clause in 2009): http://www.draftexpress.com/profile/Yiannis-Bouroussis-118/

Nice a center than can catch and dunk and alley up.

BTW if he flops is a plus to match Jazz players.

Big thanks to DaronMalakian, worzel gummidge, MrButtocks, and others with great info on these Euro League prospects.

I think Morey will more than make up for our lack of draft picks. I'd like to see him get the rights to Fran Vazquez from Orlando.

This information is greatly appreciated. Keep it coming.

I suppose a backup C is the only legitimate position that the Rockets will be lacking next year. Assuming that Morey is able to re-sign Artest and Wafer (which is no certainty), and given the contract that James White just received, it looks like the Rockets may only have 1 roster spot available on next year's roster.

If Morey trades for a draft pick, then I would suspect that player would be an international guy that could be stashed overseas for a couple of years.

Anyone think Maarty Luenan might be coming back over? He has had a decent year in Turkey...

From a purely financial/roster makeup standpoint, I think any chance of Leunen making the team next year went out the window when the Rockets got stuck with Brian Cook. I think that, once Cook inevitably exercises his $3.5M player option for next year, Rockets management will encourage him to workout hard this summer and come to camp in October ready to contribute as a backup 4/5 who can spread the floor.

Cook is obviously not in ideal playing shape now, and it is probably unlikely that he will make a meaningful contribution next year, but the Rockets still owe it to themselves to try to make something out of this situation. Given the current economic climate, I seriously doubt that the Rockets will want to waive Cook and be on the hook for $3.5M plus another player's salary.

Brian Cook has shown an ability to contribute on a good team. Here's hoping that he can work hard this summer and eventually come close to his best performances with the Lakers by training camp in October.

    Bima,

I think you are right, not sure why the Rockets had to take back Cook to get Lowry, seems like a poison pill....maybe to make salaries match?

But, I think you are right about the roster spot etc.

Taking on Cook was the only way for the salaries to match in the Alston-Lowry deal. At first, the Rockets and Magic tried to get Memphis to take Cook in addition to the first rounder, but the Grizzlies (rightfully) refused. So, in order to get the deal done, the Rockets had to eat Cook's deal.

Thank you all for the thanks.

Ilyasova is playing like PF in Europe because he didn't stand out since the 3. Plus he played as SF in NBA (only possible position for him here) with not too much success... If we want a 3-4 with shooting skills, you don't have any better than Novak in Europe, and he was traded by Morey, so I don't think we are interested in Ilyasova.

So for what I'm seeing, Morey goes after players available for this summer. Makes sense. I suppose that if he came here to see them in person is gonna be to establish contact with their agents since NOW for the next season. So, discarding players, we have:

    - Daniel Santiago (signed with Barcelona only for a year).

    - Boniface N'Dong (32 is the same age as Oberto in 2006 being the starting center of the champions).

    - Yiannis Bouroussis (has an opt-out clause for this summer, he's earning little money, so he will execute it for sure. I suppose he will ask for some good money.)

    - Don't forget Lior Eliyahu, whose contract also expires this summer.

    - Sergi Llull... to be drafted this year.

    More?

Forgot it. Rakocevic is also available for this summer. Vazquez has another year, as said worzel.

About Leunen and Newley... I can't follow them like all this players, but I'd say they don't have NBA level nowadays.

Daniel Santiago and Boniface N'Dong aren't NBA players.

The rumors regarding Bouroussis I feel is coming from his agent. I'd speculate they're trying to use the NBA out clause to re-work a better deal with Olympiacos.

Thinking about it... Would the Rockets spend the MLE on a backup C with the frontcourt depth they already have? As long as Yao, Scola, and Landry are healthy there's not going to be much playing time left over. In the NBA he's a C only as he's too slow to play PF. That'll further reduce his chances of playing time. Would he be happy going from star player to trying to displace Hayes for his minutes that won't come consistently?

Another rumor was Llull being the player scouted not Bouroussis.

...will utilize his expiring contract at an appropriate time for an appropriate piece IMHO.

How many of these guys being speculated about have to go through the draft process?

Also - I know DM the GM is a stats guy. Can he also parse physical talent or does he do a roadie like this "just" to get a feel for the players as people, make contact and contacts with coaches, scouts etc?
