I honestly don't know what you were watching this season. He was far from horrendous. At times he was brilliant, other times he was a rookie, but he was far from horrendous.

i dont know how you can say this, especially since its clear patrick has some type of positive effect on yao and patrick is known for being a very smart player...as well as charlie ward. You think JVG would hire people to his staff who are incompetent?

considering the person you are responding to is a rabid anti-JVG type, I would imagine his answer will be yes.

Ward has always been known as a smart player, he was more highly ranked coming out of college than alot of ppl think Vince was. Heisman....could have played either NBA or NFL...was a smart point guard.

The problem was that by the time we got him...he had nothing left...so some fans around here dont realize that at one time Ward was a very good player.

Ewing...as much as I distasted him from his battles against Dream, was considered one of the top centers when he played...and wasnt the dullest tool in the shed....but his legacy is more about the offcourt antics to most current fans.

all the poster was trying to imply is that some players have to rely on more work than natural talent. he wasn't implying that vince is a legend like mj and hakeem, just that he has natural god given ability like those guys where as malone has had to rely on hard work more than god given ability.

And I wouldn't agree. First of all hakeem and mj were known to have pretty strong work ethics. Secondly, while malone may not be as fluid as hakeem, mj, and vy, he definitely has god given ability. you don't get a body like that through sheer hard work. that dude could move around pretty well also for a guy his size. the one thing he may have lacked is explosiveness but when you're his size, you don't need it.

the guy had 4 games with a qb rating over 75, and 2 over 100, far from "brilliant, and one of his "good" games was a 7-15 87 yards performance. And for all his supposed clutch play, his late and close qb rating was only 60.

As far as malone, i have always hated him more then any other athelete and he'd such as a coach, however, he did not have nearly the physical ability of a hakeem yet became a hall of famer, so i get what people are saying but after 1 lousy nfl season putting vince in the same sentance as dream is insulting.
