He also had a fight with Mo Taylor while he was with the Clippers because he was couldn't stop him from scoring in a game which Utah lost.
saleem: "He also had a fight with Mo Taylor while he was with the Clippers because he was couldn't stop him from scoring in a game which Utah lost." Thanks, saleem. BTW adeelsiddiqui, I forgot to mention that since Othella is almost Malone's size, "Dr. Elbow" waited until O's back was turned to hit him. He mainly takes on 170 pound guards, you see......
I don't think Max was actually significantly injured. He may have had a bloody nose and he was definitely shaken up. It wasn't as serious as many of these other incidents; it was just such a clear-cut dirty play that it stood out in my mind, especially since it was a case where Max was called for the foul -- apparently for running into Malone's elbow with his face. After remembering this incident, I couldn't help but laugh at Phil Jackson's comments about Nash having actually fouled Malone by leading with his face. Absurd...
GocartMozart: " I couldn't help but laugh at Phil Jackson's comments about Nash having actually fouled Malone by leading with his face." Especially considering the following quote from before Jackson had to coach Malone: "They've been doing that for the last 17 years. Time and time again they create foul situations, and the refs call it. We (the coaching staff) used to get furious in my earlier days with Chicago, but we just laugh at it now." Here's another interesting incident that hasn't made it to the web site yet, reported in a 2001 article in the Minneapolis Star Tribune by Steve Aschburner: After being called for a three-second violation [...] Malone was glaring at referee Bill Spooner as he walked toward his team's bench. Malone noticed that Spooner, walking on a course that would intersect his but not paying attention to the Mailman, quickly put his right hand on his hip, bringing his brawny biceps and bony elbow right on a collision course with Spooner's face and chest. As he did this, he looked away, innocently. Spooner only noticed Malone at the last second, didn't discern the intent of what Malone was attempting to do and veered to the left to avoid him. It was as dirty as any of those knees Malone has driven into defender's chests on his way to the hoop, as dangerous as the elbows he whirly-birds after rebounds or when creating space in the post. It was a punk move, by the player who constantly bemoans the abundance of punks in the league.
the Longley one not listed on the site is one of the worst imho took is knee out, if memory serves correct Longley was out 6-8 weeks thanks to Malon sweeping his knee
spydermex: "is it wrong that im laughing at them pictures at that website??" Yes. It's not a comedy, it's a tragedy.
SmeggySmeg: "the Longley one not listed on the site is one of the worst imho. took is knee out, if memory serves correct Longley was out 6-8 weeks thanks to Malon sweeping his knee" Smeg, I found some news reports of the Longley incident, but no clear description implying this was anything but an accident, just Longley saying he saw the replay and "it looked pretty bloody flagant." Naturally, Mr. Innocent denied hurting Longley deliberately. Anyway, if you saw the game (or replay), please write up a first hand account and I'll post it. (Reply here or send me email.) thanks, ra
Sounds like a true DOUCHE... O should have socked him. Who would win in a grudge match. MALONE VS. Shaq... This I would enjoy watching. and tag team partners are stockton for malone, and fox for shaq....
I hate MALONE and one of my bedtime prayers is: "dear LORD, please don't let KARLA get a championship ever, because bullies should never win trophies..."
malone sprained his right knee if only it were more serious!!!!!!! get a taste of his own medicine! oh how i hate karl malone!
annthuyn: "malone sprained his right knee [...] if only it were more serious!!!!!!! get a taste of his own medicine!" Looks like he'll only miss three games, unfortunately.
how ironic...... they put "Good guys wear white" and next to the caption, they have a picture of karl malone. http://www.nba.com/media/history/lakers_malone_240.jpg
annthuyn: "how ironic...... they put 'Good guys wear white' and next to the caption, they have a picture of karl malone." The NBA props up Karl Malone. They made him into a star so they could market him. They give him free throws he doesn't deserve and keep him in games he should foul out of. If it weren't for the NBA padding his stats, he'd have at least 8000 points less. If they can manage it, they'll make sure he gets a ring and the NBA scoring title, but when people talk about his scoring title one day, remember ... he has a BIG FAT ASTERISK! No way he could pull all the BS he pulls year after year if the NBA weren't fixed like wrestling. Stern may not pick the clamps each year, but you can bet he names 20 of the 24 all stars.
You can't blame Karl Malone for exercising his elbo's in a game. The league is at fault. I don't support Malone's unsportsmanlike conduct but that is probably the only way Malone could have become a consistant superstar over the years. If the league really wanted Malone to stop using his aggressive style of play then here is the solution. Every team should have a player who's sole purpose is to rough up and bother Malone. By doing this, Malone would retaliate and there would be so much focus on Malone's rough play that the refs would have no choice but to hault any signs of physical play by Malone and the opposing power forward. The only problem is that each team would have to assign a brave sole to play physical with Malone knowing that he is probably going to get an elbo to the head, a knee to the stomach, or a foot in the knee.
x_trepidation_x: "If the league really wanted Malone to stop using his aggressive style of play...." Well, that's the real problem, isn't it? They don't. They have chosen Karl Malone as a star and use officiating as one way to make sure it happens. How else can you explain it? Even after he sent two players to the hospital in one year, they did nothing. What did he get, a three game suspension for the DRob assault and nothing for the Marshall incident? And then it was forgotten. Unless someone like Cuban stands up the the league, they won't do anything at all about the SOB. All the proof you need is that (1) the assaults continue; (2) he still shows no remorse for the damage he does; and (3) the league has not cracked down on him. I blame the league, all right.
Cuban probably would, but he plans on signing the guy at some point. Simply put, Karl Malone is a dirty player. Do the extreme elbows help him get to the basket any quicker? How about the flailing legs? Both the elbows and leg-flailing are employed for the sole purpose of causing injury to other players.
