They had Reeves *and* Bennett, both of whom they cut. Those guys looked like "safe" fallbacks, but they cut them.
I hear what you're saying. Whatever they're seeing probably won't be enough to save Kubiak in the court of public opinion (not that that matters, and not said "court" is known for employing sound logic). If the Texans only win 7 to 9 games, it won't be enough to save his job, either.
During the draft, we were told that his mechanics were NFL ready. =( I recall in the draft thread many of us wanted every other cornerback except Jackson. Next time the texans draft corner, they should put more emphasis on the guy's coverage skills rather than his ability to tackle and stop the run.
yes he is getting beat but our safety play has been terrible as well. i also feel that some of the problem is development. i think the texans are just teaching hm the wrong technique and then nobody on this team is a good enough corner to tech him better techniques as well. maybe its all kareem or maybe its the staff. ionno
I don't know if this was posted in the game thread, but it is worth posting here as well: SI Our defense is absolutely atrocious.
Not commenting on Kareem Jackson, but I believe you made the same arguments in defense of Carr. That if Kubiak saw something in Carr, he was better than we were all saying, etc, etc.
Didn't we pick Kareem over other corners with more potential because he "was the one most ready to step in and contribute immediately"? How off was that justification? Huge FAIL by management on that one.
Here's an excerpt form a Lance Z blog that he wrote after the 1st round of the draft. Dear God, please don't tell me Kareem has already maxed out as a player.
This. Also dude played in the SEC that year. I remember ALL Houston fans calling Mario a bust...guys just don't come into the NFL and dominate all the time. Mario his rookie year you wouldn't even know he was on the field. Not many rookie CBs even make a impact. The problem (once again...) is the decision that Kareem could just step in and lock his side down. Not only that we have no pass rush and our safeties suck at coverage...this combination of things means we leave our CBs on a island one too many times, and a WR is usually going to win that battle when you do that. Some of these times that Kareem is 'burned' are times where the safety lets his man go...why? Who the F knows, he has to know he's the F'n safety and if anyone gets past him there is a good chance a big play is about to happen. Like I said in the other thread, just watch our pass defense. These guys have no discipline and look lost out there. Also add to the fact that the LBs are contributing to this as well. They can't cover the guys running through the middle so this means that the Safeties are worried about those guys too. It's a mess, and if you want to scapegoat Kareem fine. Just realize no one on that side of the ball is playing consistently good.
Ric, We're just saying Kubes can make mistakes. Obviously, none of us are more qualified to be the head coach, and he's forgotten more football than we'll ever know. But it's just as true that head coaches make mistakes ALL the time. And there's nothing wrong with calling them out on it.
