Don't take what I write out of context. I don't respect Kanye because he isn't what he says. I it kills me that people have bought it into. R. Kelley also sings gospel songs and he sleeps with underage women.
Out of context? You straight up said you don't respect Kanye because he is phony and you respect those other losers who rap about money and hoes and every song. These are your exact words: Case in point, he is supposed to be the anti-materialistic rapper. But the whole freakin point of his album is that he didn't need college to get rich. So apparently to him the measure of his success is how rich and famous he is now. How is he being phony? Is he not supposed to make money because he raps about religion and doesn't rehash the same old "bling bling" and "shake yo ass" songs. I guess Mel Gibson and the movie company that produced "The Passion" shouldn't get a dime? Billy Graham should isolate himself in a cave somewhere and abandon all the wealth and fame he has acquired? I am a big fan of R Kelly and the dude is a musical genius. He is multi talented and has being on top of R&B/pop world since the early 90's. He writes, produces, plays musical instruments for every single song and on every single album he has come out with. No one claims he is a saint, I don't think he claims to be one either. Have you even heard his new so called Gospel album? It is far from gospel, he only sings inspirational songs and basically says to rely on God. He doesn't preach on and on about how to conduct yourself so he is not being hypocritical. I'd rather listen to his stuff anyday, then to the bull$hit that fills 97.9, 104 and MTV everyday of the week. Nobody's perfect and if he in fact did do that with that girl then he deserves to go to jail. Like Pac said, ONLY God can JUDGE me!
Rivaldo, if you are going to keep misquoting me then please just don't respond. I never said he shouldn't hope to make money. I said he brags about making money yet is the supposedly the anti materialism rapper. The guy acts like he's the second coming of Tribe Called Quest or De La Soul but he just isn't and I find it funny that people have bought into that hype. And those guys never ever through their money in people's faces, they never went out of their way to say what type of image they portray. They were who they were and they were true to it. But all that being said, their are a lot of rappers and muscians in general who give mixed messages in their songs. So that's not my big problem with. My big problem with his album was the anti education message, and you can sit there and act like it was just a few skits, but the name of the freakin album is COLLEGE DROPOUT so I think he is more anti education than you want to believe he is.
I don't get it...Where does he say he is the anti-materialism rapper? He's very cocky and very materialistic; he just doesn't like to rap about it. The whole premise of your case against him is wrong. The guy walks around in designer clothes all the time...how does he claim he is anti-materialistic? Maybe you've heard "All Falls Down?" Practically the whole song is about his materialism. The College Dropout thing is defintely an act, and the skits were made in jest. I thought it was more obvious, but I guess not. Like I said, the names of his other albums include Late Registration and Graduation. Clearly, he has some type of plan...
I have never seem him flaunt his money but I guess you have. My point is that he doesn't rap about the same old tired themes that the rest of the rap world seems to on every single song. These rappers nowadays come out with ONE catchy song which to me sounds like garbage, in order to sell their garbage album. Kanye is a breath of fresh air because he has NEW material and a great style...Listen to his lyrics and you'll see how clever he is with his words..."When you tell your girl that you beat it raw dog, she 's gonna tell you to beat it"....dude is very clever and raps in a fresh way, look at the analogies he uses and here one of many: What if somebody from the Chi was ill got a deal on the hottest rap label around But he wasn't talking bout coke and birds it was more like spoken word Except he really putting it down And he explained the story about how blacks came from glory And what we need to do in the game Good dude, Bad night, Right place, Wrong time In the blink of an eye his whole life changed If you could feel how my face felt you would know how Mase felt Thank God I ain't to cool for the safe belt I swear to God drive a two on the sue I got lawyer for the case to keep whats in my safe; safe My dawgs couldn't tell if I I look Tom Cruise on Vanilla Sky It was Televised All they heard was that I was in an accident like GEICO They thought I was burnt up like Pepsi did Michael I must gotta angel Cause look how death missed his ass Unbreakable, would you thought they called me Mr. Glass Look back on my life like the ghost of Christmas past Toys R Us where I used to spend that Christmas cash And I still wont grow up, I'm a grown ass kid Swear I should be locked up for stupid **** that I did But I'm a champion, so I turned tragedy to triumph Make music that's fire, spit my soul through the wire I get your point about it not being good for him to belittle a college education but it's part of the act...he even has a mascot and he wears those preppy sweaters...it's part of the act man, don't condem the dude for no reason.
so in all of this Kanye West lovefest, the Beastie Boys netted three nominations as well. true hip-hop will never die, Go buy To the 5 Boroughs for some good beats, doo-doo rhymes mixed with positivity and politics... "Also nominated for best rap album were Nelly's "Suit," LL Cool J's "The Definition," The Beastie Boys' "To The 5 Boroughs," and "The Black Album" by Jay-Z, which he has said will be his last." now thats good company(except for Nelly, hes bogus) beasties were also nominated for best rap performance by a duo or group for the song "ch-check it out" and best CD packaging
