Other than them both being rappers...why compare them?

I'm not a Kanye hater but his latest stuff has been really bad. As of now, I think Lupe is one of the few rappers that successfully blends flow, content, and style in his songs. A lot of the rappers that get all the hype are all style/some flow. Many of the underground stars are all content/some flow, few bridge the gap.

Funny you say that because I was thinking of "Put You On Game" when talking about the latter half of the CD. Really when I think about it, the second half of that album was really that dark, I just didn't like it compared to his first album. Kick, Push II? Emperor's Soundtrack? I won't even bring up "....And He Gets the Girl".

What I do agree with you on is I like his fast, carefree songs a bit more than his darker songs. He has to go with what he feels he needs to talk about though and I don't fault him for that.

To compare, when I heard Kanye's second album Late Registration..... I was completely blown away. We Major featuring Nas? Roses? It was unbelievable, especially when I first heart it. To top it off, Graduation may be better than all of them.

I said it before, though. All my opinion and I'm sure others disagree.

College Dropout and Late Registration like Flash said. However, I still prefer Kanye as a beatmaker then a rapper. Saw Lupe at the Bun B show a few weeks ago. He's on some other ish...actin like a rockstar and wearing his little brothers jacket. Then again, Kanye is the biggest diva rap has ever seen.

I've been lurking man. Giving you a chance to catch up with my post count! hah But, nah I prefer to keep my comments to myself lately, because many of my opinions go against what many posters are looking for from McGrady and Yao. Which, of course, composes much of what the board has been discussing during the dog days of the offseason right now.

But getting back to the discussion, Kanye's first two albums are definitely classics in my book. His third is better than those two in fact. However, you don't know how much I love Lupe's first album Food and Liquor. To illustrate my point, my greatest albums of all-time look like this:

    1. Jay-Z - Blueprint (I know people may laugh at this, but this album got me into hip hop)
    2. Nas - Illmatic
    3. Lupe Fiasco - Food and Liquor
    4. Kanye West - Graduation
    5. Little Brother - The Minstrel Show

So, where we disagree is whether he can surpass Kanye's first two albums. I say Lupe's first album already did. Where we agree is that Kanye's first three superb albums trumps one near perfect album. Kanye is the better artist because his catalogue is much bigger and filled with quality. I also disagree that Lupe is a Kanye biter though. I just don't see the connection there. The overall theme people can take away from this thread though is: quality hip hop is still here people.

    you gotta be kidding....

lupe is arguably the best rapper right now. yes, over Nas and over Jigga. You have to hear his songs at least 4 or 5 times just catch everything. Cant say the same for kanye

These 2 are far and away my favorite hip hop artists. Actually they're the only two I can actually listen to an album's worth of. Nice poll. I'll go with Lupe, just because he's had two superb albums compared to Kanye, who has a blemish on his record (pun highly intended) with that whole autotune thing on 808s and Heartbreak. Emotional, sure. Great music, not really. Love the guy's production though. I think he's the best producer or very close to it in the music industry today.

Lupe. He's got good lyrics, a good sound, and he's not crazy.

Which ever one gets the better beat. Anyone can rap. I dont get why people dont understand that rap is in the back beat, not in the rap itself

Both 808s and The Cool sucked. They both have a lot of ground to make up to even out with graduation and F&L.

Nice. You see me getting up there bout to hit a grand! lol

Anyway, like you said Kanye’s first TWO albums were arguably the best albums to open a career with. Graduation I liked but there were a lot more samples used that spiked it a little too much for me. I loved Big Brother and Everything I Am.

Lupe’s The Cool was a pretty good album I really liked Tokyo, Paris and a few other songs.

But I have to say out of the 2 I’d take Kanye as best artist.

Jay is the best all time besides Pac and Biggie but I got hooked on Jigga when he dropped Reasonable Doubt that was the ticket and I've been a fan ever since.

I've been waiting for him to drop Blueprint III for over a year now. Sheesh!

Another poll (which I'm not going to create) --

Which city produced the most talent in hip hop: Houston or Chicago?

I love Houston hip hop, but Chicago gets my vote.

Lupe Fiasco was good. But he's slowly shifting down the Kanye path. :(
