He isnt being coerced. He has gotten a very sweet deal being the president of the bball federation with a fat salary and he is a big supporter of the party. To get these positions you must have good political connections.
Spoilered because its not bball related but is in response to above. Spoiler Tyranny doesn't arise from a slippery slope of minor actions, it has always and will always arise from concentration of wealth. Wherever the issues are on the "slope", the biggest concentration of wealth will lubricate its movement. The slippery slope idea is one that is effective for holding power. Erdogan sees allowing free speech as a slippery slope too. He believes that if he lets it continue, then it will lead to a banana republic with no stability. Saudis believed it about women driving. Americans believed it about prosecuting their war criminals. Doesn't mean Erdogan won't allow free speech, American government won't prosecute its war criminals or Saudi won't let women drive ever. It just means they will do it when it is profitable from a power and money standpoint. It's a complete facade. There's no slope. That's why when female Saudis asked for change, they described it as a rugged road rather than a slippery slope. It's imaginary, and opportunistic. Nor can you ever say that where we happen to currently be on the "slope" is the best possible place to be. The truth is, this is all about money. Erdogan is a corrupt traitor to Turkish citizens who wants to make an example of people like Kanter, and the person Kanter supports is also a corrupt traitor who wants that mantle for himself albeit with a different PR spin. None of them - Kanter included - are doing this for any reason but future power. In other words, Kanter wants to be Turkoglu one day. Nice cushy overpaid head of bball federation job, but not for Erdogan. F em all. These are their personal problems, not ours, no matter how they try to market it.
http://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/25776360/turkey-seeking-warrant-enes-kanter-new-york-knicks Turkish prosecutors are seeking an international arrest warrant for Enes Kanter. Kanter is being accused of providing financial support to exiled Muslim cleric Fethullah Gulen, who is blamed for a failed coup in 2016. The Turkish government would like Kanter to be arrested and extradited, but for that to happen, the U.S. would need to be convinced that Kanter committed a crime prosecutable in the United States. Kanter has been an outspoken critic of the Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and maintains his innocence.
