Genuine guy, through and through, which is what I keep hearing from Minnesotans I know. Thanks for sharing that!
Essentially, a video circulated of a gay black man calling himself Matthew Metro who claimed to have been molested by Walz when he was a student at West HS in Mankato, MN and Walz was a teacher there. Fortunately, the WaPo decided to do some actual investigative journalism and discovered this wasn't even some "deep fake" altered video, but rather a "cheap fake" case of simple identity theft (and here's a link from yahoo!news to get past the WaPo paywall). It turns out the real Matthew Metro is indeed a gay black man now living in Hilo, HI who did attend high school in Mankato, MN when Walz was teaching there, but that he never actually met Walz back then (much less got molested by him) -- though he very much is a supporter of the Harris-Walz ticket, unlike the fake Mathew Metro of the video who does not look at all like the real one living in Hilo: In the video, the man posing as Metro claims that Walz groped and kissed him in a classroom after he turned to Walz for guidance during a difficult period in his senior year in 1997. But the real Metro said no such interaction occurred and that his senior year “was a breeze.” The fake Metro says in the video that his parents were getting divorced that year and that he was having to keep his sexuality secret. The real Metro, who is gay, told The Post the opposite was true. “I was completely out in high school,” he said, adding that his parents remain happily married today. … He said he had “no idea” why he had been targeted for inclusion in the video. He speculated that his dormant accounts on Facebook and other platforms may have been harvested for images and information about his background and interests.
Remember if Trump repeats this lie, he is only "reporting" what he read uncritically on X. Via Wired: A Russian-aligned propaganda network notorious for creating deepfake whistleblower videos appears to be behind a coordinated effort to promote wild and baseless claims that Minnesota governor and vice presidential candidate Tim Walz sexually assaulted one of his former students, according to several specialists tracking the disinformation campaign. Experts believe that the campaign is tied to a network called Storm-1516, which has been linked to, among other things, a previous effort that falsely claimed vice president Kamala Harris perpetrated a hit-and-run in San Francisco in 2011. Storm-1516 has a long history of posting fake whistleblower videos, and often deepfake videos, to push Kremlin talking points to the West. The propaganda unit’s work has successfully reached the highest levels of the Republican party, with vice presidential candidate JD Vance repeating at least one of their narratives. NBC reported this week that the group has pushed at least 50 false narratives in this manner since last fall, which comes amid a broader Russian government effort to disrupt next month’s election with the aim of helping former president Donald Trump return to the White House. Numerous figures in MAGA world boosted the Tim Walz assault claims, including Jack Posobiec, the Pizzagate promoter who is now a member of Trump’s campaign team, and Candace Owens, the popular right-wing podcaster. The claims went viral on X last week, when an anonymous account called Black Insurrectionist posted screenshots of emails from a purported victim. Other X users quickly debunked the claims, citing formatting errors in the images that suggested the emails were fake, but days later another conspiracist posted a video on X claiming he had spoken to one of Walz's supposed victims on the phone—without providing any proof. The video racked up millions of hits.
I would really love to see the long term Medicaid program get overhauled. I've spoken with family/friends in other states who have lost generational wealth by the Medicaid Estate Recovery Program taking their homes and not having the ability for in place care workers vs putting their loved one in a nursing home. Only two more weeks and we'll know if the country's on the up or down swing...
Great point on Medicaid. Would just be nice to have a group of politicians taking our problems seriously at all and not just as food for social media clips. I think there's a very possible middle ground between up and down swings. If Harris gets the Whitehouse and GOP controls both houses, we will largely have stasis (which is further erosion on most fronts, but that's what the GOP campaigns on -- "look at all this erosion! It'a all their fault!")
"... And in that space between us, politicians and algorithms teach us to caricature each other and troll each other and fear each other." - Barack Obama
The funny thing about the story is Trump mentions what other pro golfers said to him once and the Dems haven't stopped talking about it since. Trump really dictates what Dems talk about, it's amazing really
No. Tim Walz absolutely does have the right call out the other party's fundraising. He hasn't invested in the Stock market. He hasn't used his positions in government to enrich himself. He literally is the shining example of being in government to serve.
shining example of always having been subsidized by the taxpayer and being absolutely clueless about the economy, entrepreneurship, private markets
I really like Tim. My business partner told me recently, “it’s like you’re running for VP” and that was the nicest thing she ever said to me lol
Literally the first thing out of his mouth was mispronouncing Saquan Barkley’s name. “shake-won”? lol. Credibility shot. this guy can’t get out of his own way.
8 bankruptcies and counting. He would have been wealthier just doing nothing but collecting interest from all the money and properties daddy gave him.
