As others have already said, its based on one writer's opinion. Gotta give the guy some sapce (and kudos, IMO) for taking a position on such a ranking. Its easy to sit back and peck at such lists afterwords, but at least he is taking a stance.

That said, if *I* was putting such a list one important factor I would weigh wasthe player's impact on games (and winning). Be Wallace has impact on games, and his impact helped DET win last year. Can the same be said about Mobley?

I know Francis impacts games... all one has to do is look at the record of games he plays versus those he didn't.

For all of you that were surprised at Steve's high ranking take note.... Houston fans are the only people that BASH STEVE!. It's embarrassing to say, but very true. The league and fans around the NBA thinks the world of our 6'3 ball of explosion. It's not everyday you find a smaller guard that rebounds, scores and assist at a high level. The teams and cities that doesn't have the luxury of a Steve Francis or a Baron Davis appreciate them a lot more than the "fair-weathered" fans of Houston. It's funny how some of you turned your backs on Steve this off-season behind those Yao Ming rumors and then we put him down after he had some injury issues. Is Jumping Ship a recreational sport now? That's alright, because I've lived here all my life and seen with my very own eyes the deadly plague they call bandwagonidus. It's a horrible, horrible thing to behold and God help us when it strikes again.

I think they are talking about when at full strength, which is why Grant Hill is on the list. Jordan at full strength for a full season is better than those 4. I mean if he had stayed healthy, the frikkin Wizards would have made the playoffs. Look at who he had around him, even in the Least, that is amazing. Even though he got injured, the Wizards still won a boatload more games than they won last year. You can hate the guy, but give the guy props where props is due. He was 39 years old and took 3 years off from basketball for god sakes.

Well put. The national media loves Francis and fans around the league who have players like Charlie Ward, Jeff Mcginnis, & Gilbert Arenas as their starting PG's really appreciate Franchise's game. The only people I've ever heard really bash the guy are Rocket fans and the local sports talk people.

Unfortunately Houston is a huge bandwagon city withthe execption for football. People gave up on the Rocks after they went down 0-2 to Phoenix back in the day and as soon as they didn't make the playoffs, 1/3 of the "fans" desserted the team. They'll be back soon enough and they'll leave again after that.

Mobley is an all-star caliber player but he's not one of the top 50:confused: ? It really doesn't bother me that much though b/c its simply the case of the national media missing a local guy. He probably didn't watch too many Rocket games so it easy for him to over look our guy. But winning will bring exposure and once more people get to see him, he won't be ignored.

I agree, If the Rockets won 40+ games Cat would have made that list. It's alright though, because he is a hell of a player that is under paid for what he does. One of the best shooting guards in the league and he will have his monents in the lime light soon enough. Just don't let these Houston fans give you a rape sheet about Cat!

Just another reason for Cat to keep on getting better...Really ignorant to not have Cat on the 50 list...O well, it just shows the "list" is not worth the paper it is on.

That's ridiculous, Cat is a top 10 SG and extremely underrated by those outside of Houston. Without a doubt he should be on a Top 50 list.
    Which SG's are better?
Kobe, AI, Ray Allen, Vince, Tracy (3-ish),Stackhouse, Pierce

Who else? None I can think of...

Eddie Jones, Bonzi, Spree, Houston, Finley, Wally, R. Miller

Cuttino is as good as these guys if not better than some

I must agree, his stats are better than the second group of SG

    35. Andre Miller, PG, Cavaliers. The only thing that prevents Miller from being the league's best penetrator is opponents' lack of respect for his jump shot. He already leads the league in assists, but once he adds a reliable outside game, he'll be among the leaders in points, too.

agreed, miller is a legend... too low.

as for cat, i smell a bit of hometown bias. by my count, he's the tenth best shooting guard in the league ( after kobe, ai, pierce, vince, ray, stackhouse, finley, bonzi, and spree), stats be damned. whether that is deserving of a place in the top 50 players, i dunno. 10 * 5 = 50, so by that logic he should, but you have to consider the dearth of centers / plethora of three's... eh, after all this nonsense, it's still questionable whether or not he should be there, so i consider it hardly an outrage...

oh, and the kobe bashers... please stop, before you make yourselves look even stupider... a hint: when you gotta pick at nuances like "double-team handling" ( even though it isn't a problem he has... plenty tall enough / capable enough passer / decision making skills, all check ), you know that's when it's time to give it up. the man is the most skilled player in the league.

So, you are saying that Vlade Divac, ranking number 49, is better than Cuttino?

Jordan definitely needs to be up there. He brought back the Wizards to a play off contender from a lottery team. If he didn't get injured, the Wiz would've gone to the playoffs.

Hrm...no one gives Cuttino his fair due as a top 50 player as a handful of Rocket diehards think or he's not top 50 material as most people including many Rocket fans think.

I feel like this has to be quoted again. It looks like some people are still clinging onto those TroyBarros rumors like bloodsucking ticks. It seems that Cat isn't the only Rocket that has to prove himself this year.

Agreed. Great, but short, season for MJ.

I hope that he can stay healthy this season.

Ben Wallace is a great defense player. That is why he is so high on the list. There is no one like him in the game. Question: what wins championships? Answer: Defense. I would add that being able to score in the last three minutes of the game also wins championships, but how many teams or players rather in last year's playoffs could you go to at the end of the game and you felt confident they could produce? Horry and Bibby and Miller is all I saw. So if I'm a GM, knowing that to win championships I need a clutch shooter and defense, who would be high on my list? For me, besides shaq and kobe, I'd start my team with Bibby and Wallace. I'll let you all have the no-forth-quater-guts-freak-superstars garrnet, duncan and mcgrady. Give me instead a no athletically freak player like bibby and wallace any day of the week.

They're not criticizing his handling of double teams. . . they can't, No one knows how he reacts to double teams, because he doesn't face them. Ever.

Every single list like that should have Shaq first, Duncan second, and an empty slot at No. 3.

And Cuttino mobley should make the list, but he won't, he's chronically underrated even in his own town.
