Darko's only a bust in the context of being a #2 overall pick. The guy might not be better than most of the people he was picked ahead of, but he's been serviceable when given minutes. He's not a complete scrub, no matter how much people want to make fun of him.

4 years/20 mil? Probably not the smartest idea on Minnesota's part, but I'd say this is better than giving Gooden 5 years/32 mil.

Kahn must have a trade up his sleeve. I can't see him killing his capspace for Darko.

We need David Kahn to be the GM of the Knicks. His talents are wasted in Minny because they don't have that much money to blow. Imagine the stuff he could do with an unlimited checkbook. Maybe Portland could hire him to replace Pritchard. Kahn should trade himself to Portland.

I know. Despite being widely regarded as a bust, Darko has squeezed out $57 million from the NBA and he'll only be 29 at the end of this deal so he could still get more. Amazing.

Darko has talent, but he doesn't put in consistent effort. He has a sense of entitlement IMO. He will have a few good games, gives up and starts complaining.

He's made about $37 million so far in his career. This contract adds another $20 million. Not bad for a guy who only plays half the game and gives you 5 point and 4 rebounds.

That is the very definition of overpaying a scrub.

NBA.COM is reporting that the deal is 4 years for $16M.
That isn't too bad, but $4M a year for an unproven talent who has already tried proving himself for 7 years is very risky. I know he played well with the Wolves, but this is risky.

It's unfair to use his career numbers, given that his first 3 years were essentially zero. 8, 5, and 1.5 blocks - and he's been fairly steady the past few years with that. Those are completely legit numbers for a back up F/C, and having one making less than the MLE is decent value.

The list of back up 7 footers making less and playing significantly better than Darko, not on rookie deals, isn't all that long.

Just from the top of my head:

    Jerome James
    Jim McIlvaine
    Todd McCullough
    Mark Blount
    Bryant Reeves
    Kelvin Cato
    Nenad Kristic
    Dan Gazduric
    Eddy Curry
    Samuel Dalembert
    Michael Olowokandi
    ...

    etc.

Similar production per salary ratios. It's just par for the course. And I'm glad that Morey hasn't resorted to overpaying backup quality bigs just so that the fans crying here for a backup center could sleep better. Now, I could understand if that guy was the missing link between just a playoff team and a contender but that hasn't been the case very often.

Suddenly the 2 point something millions we are paying David Andersen doesn't seem so bad anymore...

Darko isn't that bad, for a "bust" he's top-of-the-line, at least compared to such NBA greats as Tschivili, Kandi and Kwame Brown. He had all the tools to become the next Sabonis, however he's already wasted his potential by this time. Even so, he's a pretty good defensive player who can rebound some and score a little bit. Just by clogging the paint and being able to walk and chew gum at the same time he's already worth the mid-level IMHO.

Agreed. And for a player that's going to be their starting center, it's not a bad deal.

I guess this means Al Jefferson's definitely on the move.
