Aaron Brooks is too small and too skinny to guard most guards. At least that's the knock on him. In reality, he runs the opposing point guards into the ground while the Rockets are offense to the point where they are rarely able to use their size and strength against him on the other end of the court. I think Martin will be the same. If he's lighting you up on one end it's hard to think about how you're going to take him to the block and score on him when you get the ball back. It worked for Reggie Miller too.
Michael Redd is thin. Thin, or not he can shoot it. It doesn't matter how good your are, if the team is bad, their play will be bad.
Nope, Martin was the main prize in the deal. Hill and the picks were the sweetener. Morey has wanted Martin for a couple of years now, but Sacto never wanted to deal him. Morey knew we would not have the cap space to go after one of the top FAs this summer so he went hard for Martin at the deadline and got him. Morey is opportunistic. Knicks had to clear more space for this summer in hopes of rebuliding their team. They had to move jeffries to do that so Morey made them pay a price for us to take him (Hill and two first round picks). Sacto knew Martin would not fit in with Evans down the line so they needed to do something and also needed a low post scorer. In comes Morey with a Landry offer... Really nice moves. Glad he is our GM.
And thin guys typically don't show up the following year out of shape, like, tmac. However, tmac did have chicken legs.
if martin can play as long as rip hamilton, then i'd be very happy.. since they both got similar frame, but somehow rip's D a lil better.
Kevin martin will never be more than 70% of what tmac was, unfortunately tmac might be 50% of what tmac was.
In the last minute of a close playoff game: Insert Offense: Yao-Scola-Chase-Martin-Brooks Score! Then, insert Defense: Hayes-Jeffries-Trevor-Shane-Lowry Shutdown! Rinse & Repeat!
thanks. I agree with you. I also don't think he is an A list star, but we didn't give up an A list star for him either.
I've got a decent amount of knowledge my friend. The NBA isn't like it used to be. Positions aren't as defined as before. Just look at our team. We have 2 small forwards who start. When Kevin Martin is out there the opposing team will attack him. He will definitely be the weak link on the defensive side. I hope that the Rockets coaching staff coaches him up so he at the very least becomes an average defender. When you see Martin's opponent go straight to the post and back him in for a 4 foot fade away just remember........I told ya so.
I do wonder how the Brooks/Martin backcourt will fare defensively. Neither are great defenders and there's only so much that Battier/Ariza can compensate for. In some ways, I'm thinking Lowry/Martin might be a better combination.
He doesn't even try to stop anyone that he is matched up against.Even weaker wings have no problem against him.
By all means I think Morey did outstanding in pressuring the Knicks into giving up more than they wanted to to get the deal done and get McGrady.U could just tell they didn't want to give up that much, and I put that as a credit to Morey for finding the Sac deal and making sure it was out in the media. So it was a get in or lose out thing for them.
well done! So putting it all together: When TMac was only 50% of his former self, he was only playing 100% only 50% of the time. So that means was only playing at around 25% ...which interesting seems about right.
That's y the rockets play TEAM defense not man-to-man... How often have u seen bigger points do the same thing to AB? Often right? But how often does it cost us the game?
