please please don't keep fooling yourself with that excuse, see what would be our record after this week and hopefully nobody comes out and sing:we have the toughest schedule and yet is, what, 6-6?

I agree that it's a little awkward especially since on a national level his firing, dismissal or whatever you want to call it is probably viewed as questionable.

JVG best analysis during the game........."Who's the idiot who didn't play Bonzi last year?"

Man, I hated JVG as a coach.

That said, he is one of the best color guys I have ever heard do a game. He has a good voice, great insight, can be very funny, and isn't afraid to say things a little bit edgy like defending Phil Jackson on the Brokeback thing and talking honestly about Bonzi.

I honestly found myself paying more attention to him than any other announcer probably ever. I honestly did not think at the beginning of the season JVG would be assigned to any Rockets game. I'm sure it was very awkward for him as well.

I think now that he has popped his "announcing on Rockets games" cherry, he will offer a great perspective on Rockets games later in the year. This is the kind of guy I would love to get a beer with and just watch basketball with. I'm not talking just Rockets, but anything.

JVG is a good coach who I felt needed to leave when it came to the Rockets. He just could not get it done offensively, which is why.

As good as he is as a coach, I think he is 100 times better as an announcer and I truly get excited every time I see him sitting in that announcer chair before a game.

We in Houston are in such bad shape when it comes to home announcers. Drexler and Worrell are so bad I want to puke and fight everyone at FSN. I believe that the play by play, color, halftime team, and general production of everything is so much better at TNT and ESPN (I think Kevin Eschenfelder needs to stay out of the tanning bed and stop wearing so much makeup because he freaks me out). We need a good announce team.

It would be awesome if somehow we could get JVG to do home games when he is not working ESPN. It won't happen this year because of the firing, but he would make watching games so much more enjoyable.

    My two cents, peace,
    mlwoo

C'mon, lets open our eyes up here. RA has done pretty well so far, but his offense looks no better than JVG's, and the Rocket's D has dropped off considerably IMO. The Rockets are doing well because Yao and Tracy have just been unbelievable.

I cant believe people are calling for Jeff's head because of the Bonzi situation. Look at how RA is handling the Francis situation. Isnt it EXACTLY how JVG treated Bonzi?

i had no problem with the way jvg handled bonzi, i had a problem with the way he couldn't get out the first round with two superstars.

Honest question PGab, do you have the same feelings for the way RA is handling Steve?

It's like you went to a bar with your new girl friend and found the ex- you just broke up with sitting right beside you.

For you it's AWKWARD! But for spectators it may be FUN to watch!

JVG did a great job last night. hes very funny and a really good commentor. i half wished he would shout orders at the rockets to play with more defensive intensity. :D

yes, until the last two nights, I felt there was really no reason for change. i really don't even have that much of a problem with rafer's play, he's still taking care of the ball. its worse if mike isn't hitting his shots, it really doesn't make much difference with rafer, unless he's out there late in the game

I agree, but if Steve works hard, he should get a shot, I mean all he has to do is beat out one of the worst starting PGs in the NBA....right?

Whatever you think of JVG as a coach, give the man credit.

Last night, he was classy. He spoke generously about Adelman, he poked fun of himself with regards to Bonzi (where he could have easily gone the other way and passive agressively snipped about his weight), and he didn't say a single negative comment about the Rockets organization.

    He's a good guy.

He even defended Phil Jackson for his Brokeback comment saying how media blew it out of proportion. This despite him and Phil Jackson having a history with each other.

Gundy says the right things on the camera and I appreciate his candor in front of the mike. He is very likable when he is commentating on a game.

It's his micromanagement coaching, stubbornness, lack of creativity on offense, and player management that I did not like.

Gundy as coach - Not so good.
Gundy behind the mike - Excellent!

I have no problem differentiating between the two.

bonzi was out of shape! what part of that dont you guys understand. hell he still cant dunk and he lost what 15 pounds?

by the way i thoroughly enjoyed jvgs comments. its far aside from last years espn game where there was constant rockets bashing in the beginning of the season.

I dont think we will pass Jazz even with RA. They are just Rockets killers. I feel sorry for JVG. Considering the good record in regular season with both superstars injuries, we should've gone farther than that if we didnt face Jazz in first round.

JVG is funny! Funny looking! No, I'll stay away from bashing him too much out of respect for his time here and its passing, but I sure am glad the JVG era is over. Go Rockets!!! :)
