Um... what the hell? Yao has a FAR superior FG%, averages more points, more rebounds, more blocks, and has a FAR superior FT% as well. How many categories is that? Is Tracy the "best player on the Rockets?" You clearly think so, I don't, but does it matter? Was Shaq or Kobe better? You really cannot say which one was better, as dominant as Shaq was Kobe was needed to provide the late game heroics. There is no need insist that this is "McGrady's team" or that "McGrady is the best player on the team", because those are controversial and probably false statements, and they are ultimately irrelevant statements.
Statements like this are basically like Bush and his "you're with us or you're against us" shtick. We can debate unto eternity about "whose team" it is or who's the "best player on the team," but ultimately it is a USELESS EXERCISE, because BOTH PLAYERS ARE SUPERSTARS, AND BOTH PLAYERS ARE INTEGRAL TO THIS TEAM'S SUCCESS. One of them is a dominant post player and the other is an unstoppable wing player. You cannot compare them and say which is better, because no matter what standard you bring up to support McGrady I'll bring up a different standard to support Yao. If you bring up that McGrady has far better vision and sets up his teammates, I counter that Yao is a far more efficient scorer and his higher PER means he is a more efficient player overall. We'll go in circles like this, but we shouldn't have to. You think you're looking good by bashing Yao partisans, but you've revealed yourself to be a Tracy partisan. They're just as bad. Maybe for a change we can discuss how to make the ROCKETS better? I think Yao and T-Mac both have work to do in this regard.
when did i say it was tmac's team? i said tmac is the team's best and most critical player. the team can't afford to lose him the most b/c no one on this team can replace what he does. w/ yao, we still have deke to plug in to replace the boards and defense, obviously not the offense. again, all i'm saying is when tmac struggles offensively shooting the ball, he still can dominate a game w/ his passing. ala the heat game earlier this yr and the recent pacers game just to name a few. the easy layups he gives hayes are priceless despite tmac being way out in the 3pt line
I wouldn't say Tmac is the best or Tmac is great either if Yao's folk haven't tried to diss Tmac at every single chance. If you have read this board lately, Tmac has been drawn into our discussions whether the topic is related to him or not. He has been called Maclazy in a thread about JVG's comment on Yao. Guys have questioned his clutchness in a thread about Yao's FT. Do you agree that it's pathetic?
It's really sad, but it's becoming more and more apparent to me now that a fanatical YOF is also more likely to be a TOH. Half of them (more actually) completely disappeared from the BBS during the 30+ games where McGrady showed his metal, when he led a team down on its luck to a great record, beyond anything any of his own fans could've hoped for. As Yao came back, so did they. However, they don't just come back quietly and 'ease' their way back in hoping that no one noticed their absence from the forum during those trying times, but some of them come back and immediately start to bash the biggest reason as to why we're still even in the playoffs. Lacks the "Killer Mentality"? Just ask his teammates and see what they have to say about that. Oh, and pryuen, your hatred for everything McGrady is not only transparent but quite pathetic. It must kill you that Yao likes the guy and believes in him as a teammate. This guy you love to hate is the same guy who stood up for Yao in the media (including TNT and ESPN on more than one occasion) when everyone else was calling him a stiff and a softie.
Agreed! Also, if Tmac is the one shooting the ball most of the time late in the game, ask Van Gundy how he kills somebody without a weapon.
Some fanatical Yao fans only care about his stats, and they won't tolerate any criticism of him, saying anything that he does bad must be someone else's fault. I once thought something like that, but I've realized that if Yao has faults or does something poorly, one should point them out, and not blame them on others. In addition, I realized that Yao's legacy/reputation will ultimately be tied to his team's success, particularly in the playoffs, where he heretofore has had no success. To gain such success he needs McGrady and the rest of the team. Therefore I don't find it right to gratuitously bash McGrady as a defense when someone is pointing out Yao's flaws (JVG, his FREAKING COACH in this case) as a weak defense that some Yao fans are wont to whip out.
no i'm fine w/ criticisms on tmac. he hasn't shot well. that's a legit criticism. but to say that he's "lazy" and has "no heart" and "not clutch" like some yao fans are saying is ridiculous. that's a diss at his character, not his play. that's taking it too far. when yao struggles, most of us understands his problems. turnovers, fatigue, not being able to play v. fast teams, those are things yao can't control and we don't blame him. but we're not gonna say oh he's a liability b/c he's too slow and big.
Wow... er... we need both Yao and Tracy??? Seriously... please stop the hating... there are other bigger things out there to think about... like the next game, getting homecourt in the playoffs, winning the championship and bludgeoning Dallas into the ground . There is no need for a 'civil war' within the fandom. Most especially where it concerns our 2 star players who, of all things, get along extremely well with each other and are glad to have one another on the team.
true true true and true.what they can't see is that without one another, they are not championship material.what i find interesting is that some people namely dadakota or whatever the name is constantly bringing the fact that t-mac did not lead his team to a second round and that he tried for 10 years.that's pathetic, the reason why he didn't get past the 1st round is because of a lack of supporting cast, just ask garnett. and yes t-mac has the killer mentality,he is not afraid of responsibilities never was. and pryuen man.you are a complete idiot, you should just concentrate on tracking yao's photos and news and not comment on other people because except from yao ,you obviously don't know anything(to be polite).no i don't care man i'll just say stfu pls. to all those people bashing t-mac now, enjoy it while you can because it won't last long but don't come afterwards and jump on the bandwagon again. yao + t-mac = championship yao - t-mac = failure t-mac - yao = failure hope that all of you will realise this soon
you are one annoying rookie this is perhaps the 5th time I open a good thread and see you same old yao bashing tmac licking 'this is tmacs' team' bull ruining it the last time you did this was during some great win we had a while back
can't be as bad as YOH right? at least i respect yao's game and recognize his greatness. YOH obviously doesn't . but oh yea, u don't seem to see pruyen's diss of tmac's character
fair enough. you indeed have now corrected yourself from before when you refer to JVGs "star players". That's cool. You always say you are man enough to correct yourself. that cool. but let's get something straight. You do NOT want me to get search privileges. if you think that would be good for you then you are more than "addled brain" you are an IDIOT like Batman Jones told you.
Both Yao and Mcgrady are equally important to the team, each one from his position, anyone can see that ,afterall bball is a teamsport, but what i think is totally wrong is VG talking to the press and singling out specific players and their flaws (according to him) . That doesn't make much sense to me. It's like your girlfriend is cheating on u and u go tell her mother, sounds kinda pathetic doesn's it? ( unless her mother looks like pamela and you're trying 2 score with her too ). anyways i'm sure no player appreciates his coach b****ing to him all the time, especially through the press .
Actually I DO want you to get those privilidges, and if you READ the thread, you will see that I was talking about TMac the WHOLE time.....you can't take one small post and infer the rest.... As for the Topic.......here is my point about Tmac and him not being a particularly good leader. Personally, I want to hedge and say, we need both Yao and Tmac and without either one the team is going nowhere. That is because the team is built around both, if one left, you would have to change some of the pieces to build the team around either of them to contend. Now, that being said....... I don't think Tmac is a great leader, he is an amazing talent, but hardly the kind of guy who seems to burn if the team loses. Yao on the other hand as he gets more comfortable with the team, you can just see he takes it so personal. IMHO, and again that is all this is, I think Yao will prove to the better leader of the two, and not by a little, but by a lot. And, I think JVG realizes this and knows that in order to win, Yao has to be option 1 with Tmac being the facilitator and option 2. DD
This thread got derailed at the very beginning. Titling the thread "JVG: Yao Lacks Killer Mentality" was totally incorrect. That's what the OP (tsunami's) thought JVG said which could be nothing further from the truth. This of course wasn't helped by quoting the AP reporter that put his own bias to JVG's comments. What this tells me is that the idea that Yao is soft persists to this day in the mainstream which is wrongheaded. How this got into a Yao vs. TMac debate is just plain non-sensical. I bet if TMac and Yao saw this thread they would be laughing their butts off at stupidity of it all.
Everybody can look at and listen for themselves what JVG exactly said here. In my mind "Killer mentality" and "Finishing mentality" is the same meaning. He first called out Yao then both Yao and TMac then the rest of the team with that phrase. <object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/WZlhoOz4Ggw"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/WZlhoOz4Ggw" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object>
He called out YAO specifically, as that was the question asked of him, and then said it was all about the team. Clearly though, the empasis was on Yao and Tmac....but more specifically on Yao. DD
For all the cr@& JVG gets, I like what he had to say in the video clip. This guy cares and only wants his players to play with swagger needed to kick A$$. I hope the players have seen this and take on the challenge to finish games strong. I can't wait to see if any this does occur in the next game since the Hornets have a 2-0 edge this season. Time for some payback!
wow, if Yao were ever to get traded, I am pretty sure we wouldn't see you posting here anymore. That would kinda suck since you bring alot of valuable info about yao. What I would not miss is, you putting down other teammates to make your idol look better when there is no need for it.
