It's hard to say. You don't see players who carrying on like a maniac after they make a crucial play in the game. Because, it's not necessary unless you're trying to be on the Epicat (puke) Sports & Propaganda Network. I think he does have killer instinct, as well as T-Mac. Their teams have traditionally suck. T-mac played on Magic team that only won 21 games the next year. Have you seen some of these Rocket teams, no offense, but we had the likes of Ryan Bowen, David Wesley (who is almost 40), and other players who weren't exactly primed for serious playoff battles. I think this year we certainly have the talent up and down the bench. If JVG is willing to use them will be quite another story.
oh, so addled brained one. This thread is clearly about a DIRECT criticism of Yao. The thread of the post I reposted was clearly about DIRECT criticism of VSpan; it was the thread about JVG making the joke about Tsakalidis. You said in that post I reposted that JVG only does direct criticism to scrubs and "tells half truths about star players." And you know, that post you made was just the first of several on the same topic. You went on a one week repeating comment about how JVG doesn't criticize TMac or stars, and it all started with the post I reposted. what go ahead, tell me I misinterpret that this thread, that reposted thread, and your reposted post, again. I know you will just be arguing to convince the "addled brained ones" who still think you never waffle or talk in circles. GO Dan GO!
and mac missed 2 of those 12 losses. notice the mac bashing only occurred before and after yao's injury. the haters disappeared when he was out and the team didn't crumble. they would have been out of in full force if the rockets record was more like 12-20 instead of 20-12 though.
Yao's played 10 games since his return from injury. Here are some of his numbers concerning the 4th quarter. FG: 16-31 (.516) FT: 21-26 (.808) TO Total: 10 PF Total: 8 4th Qtr Numbers against Det, Clips, Suns. FG: 4-13 (.308) FT: 2-2 TOT: 4 PFT: 3
I think JVG is just trying to get Yao to be more aggressive, like he has been in the past-get him back up to speed mentally. Ask yourself why Tmac sat out about 8 minutes in the second quarter, and Yao played...I think JVG wanted Yao to take the team by the horns for a while and take control. In the end, we don't want Yao to be too passive, he needs to make it a point to get good shooting position, not just "pass it out" positioning. Take a look at the first game against Dallas this season. Yao was plenty aggressive. There was another game where Yao was the man at the end, hitting a big shot to seal the deal, chest bumping Juwon Howard...good times.
I WAS talking about Tmac......and specifically ABOUT Tmac.... You are just trying to start some crap.....yeah, I get it....typical HP!!! Now go join the Tip Jar thread and get some search privilidges...stop being a skin flint. DD
He has been in league for ten years, but has been a primary scorer for seven of those seasons. I expected better of you than this, DD.
This whole thread is validating Charles Barkley's point on whether the Rockets are T-Mac's or Yao's team.
I am sorry, wasn't Hakeem the primary scorer? Wasn't Jordan? What about Bird? Come on..Tmac has all the talent in the world, what he lacks, IMHO, is that "Win at all costs" mentality. He has been in the league 10 years and has failed to lead his team out of the first round of the playoffs...I can understand it if he never had any real teams or opportunities. But at least TWICE he had a very good chance...2 years ago here in Houston, up 2-0 and 3 of the next 5 on Houston's home court....he should have closed it out. Up 3-1 with Orlando against Detroit, and choked...... I love Tmac, but I don't think he is all that great of a leader.....Yao....I think he just might be......and I think JVG sees this too and it is why he is focusing on Yao. At least that is how I read it. DD
A killer mentality comes from a belief that you can win every single game. Our Rockets know they're good, but they haven't gotten to the point where they seriously believe this in themselves, that they can kick anyone's butt at anytime. IMO, you can see it in their body language when they play Phoenix and Dallas, especially; against these teams, they can become rattled, nervous and tentative. Winning against the top-tier teams like Detroit, Spurs and Utah - and then Phoenix and Dallas - will go a long way in developing the killer mentality. The more they believe they can win against the best, the more they will play to WIN and not NOT TO LOSE. (Maybe it's a catch-22 I guess. You need a killer mentality to win, but need to win to develop a killer mentality.) Anyway, I'm all for JVG pushing our stars this way. From Good to Great, baby! From Good to Great!
Yao has been leading the pitiful Chinese National team quite well at FIBA championship. I recall the game before CNT vs Serbia and Montenegro (former Yugoslavia), CNT's only chance left to pass the 1st round (group match). Yao vows that he will not shave unless CNT win the game. And CNT does beat them in a heartbreak, a miracle!
you've got to be kidding me. what is our record w/ only yao and no tmac? please, think before you post. yao can't lead a team by himself yet. and if u miss all of tmac's clutch performances throughout his career, you need to watch some more. so does kobe not a leader now blowing a 3-1 lead w/ 2 of the last 4 in los angeles? detroit and dallas were higher seeds. eventually they're gonna beat u in a 7 game series. the better team ALWAYS win in a 7 game series, ALWAYS. 5 game series is different. 7 games => better team wins 99% of the time. dallas was better despite the 4th seed. they had more depth and evetnually tmac can't do it alone. tmac had to guard dirk, stack, howard, AND terry at times. then he had to score, rebound, AND pass. he's the ONLY one on this team who has to do everything. but o well, the doubts of fans everywhere. hope tmac proves them wrong this yr. i bet u if tmac goes down right now, we would win 20% of the games even w/ yao.
Nope, no one saw it. That's why there is not an entire thread devoted to it and no one referenced it several times in this same topic as well.
You completely missed the point of my post. All I was saying was that McGrady was not one of leaders of his team when he first came into the league, so it's not correct to say that he's been trying to lead a team for ten years, as he has only been doing so for seven. I thought you were smarter than this.
um, the grammar wasn't that bad. He used some weird descriptions for sure but don't be discriminatory. And I think the point he made is very valid. T-mac has been getting 'more content' now that Yao is back. We need both T-mac AND Yao to play like beasts if we want to advance far into the playoffs.
