not to mention tmac hit the key jumper to push to lead to 7 with under 2minutes or so remaining. yao is the best player on the team but tmac is by far the most critical to the team success. this is no slight on yao but its just way the game is designed. the game is designed to favor perimeter play even before all the new rules. your idol worshipping stance on yao has gotten old, you do a great job on reporting on yao over the off season and injuries but do a disservice when trying to be an attention w****. this team will only go as far as tmac and yao take them, not just only yao not only just tmac.
Tmac has been trying for 10 years to lead a team, maybe JVG is hoping that Yao is going to be more of a leader? DD
just to be fair...which i know is hard when people want to bash jvg, but he also referenced the entire team as not having that killer mentality, not just yao. but if you have watched yao has been hesitant with the ball a few times
I'd agree with JVG. I am a big Yao fan, but it does not hurt to criticize, it is only going to help. IMHO, Yao does lack a killer mentality for now, I think due to both a little mental factor and his stamina problem. But not like some poster here, I have high confidence he will get there.
I don't think Yao lacks killer mentality. He is just out of gas. He wanted to take the ball at deep position but he just cannot. It is really NOT easy to dominate inside from the begin till the end when you have to wrestle 4 big guys all the night.
not only do I read better than you; I have a vastly better memory than you of what I read. note first that I don't have search capabilities on the bbs like Clutch and Dr of Dunk or Mango or Sir Jackie Chiles do, but I make up for it with a memory equivalent to them all. here is just one post I was able to track down...there are more where you said "star players" ... but I don't have time to track down another ... http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showpost.php?p=2749452&postcount=214 what? Don't ever underestimate my memory again, Dan. what?
Exactly. JVG knows exactly how to get tmac and yao to play better. And what he is doing/saying is just what he needs to do. Yao will eventually get a killer instinct. He just needs the confidence that he can totally own any player in the NBA. He grew up for 20 years in a different way than what is needed of him here, so its not surprise its taking time for him to change. Most kids in america can start having over-confidence and a cocky attitude from a very early age, and if you add in basketball (or any sport) talents to that, you get what we now have in the NBA. Yao has the talent, and many physical gifts that no other nba player has ever had. Now it is just his attitude that needs to progress. I can't say that getting a killer instinct is having a better attitude, since he is already such a great person. But if he wants to win a ring, he will have to turn on the mean streak when its needed. He was very close, ala you cant f***ing stop me, but now he has to start over. Maybe he thinks that his change in attitude earlier this season is what led to his injury? Or maybe he is still just not physically fit, which translates mentally? You never know, but in anycase JVG is doing all that he can to get Yao back on track, and take the Rox to the championship.
Yes agree. and To be fair to T-mac, We can ask who had the K.I.. I think only M.J. had it and probably Hakeen and Tim_D in their glory days. I think denis rodman, John Stockdon and Sam Cassell had the mental edge but were not physically talented enough. K.I. is about you can dominate and win the close game and in the last minutes of critical games. So far D. wade is the closest one to M.J. KB had not proved himself. Even Shaq didn't have it, because when he won WC, his rivalries are Sacremento Queens and Webb.
Everyone know how important Tmac is for our team. But, that's not mean we can not hope him play better or great better(ex.score 60 like Kobe or hit every last shot). I honestly speaking, when I see him not hit over halt of his shot, it's really painfull. For K.I. yao is not first choice in this team, he naturely slow and high TO than guards. So for the last minutes attack, I prefer Tmac to take over and let him to handle the ball, go to the rim or pass to Head.... K.I. is not that important for yao. So JVG is wrong and sucks.
Great post, I can't stand all the commentators that say someone needs to be "the man" on this team. WHY? Is it not good enough for Yao and Tmac to both be "the men". It can easily happen. They both play as well as any tandem in the league together. They basically take what the D gives them. I think we will figure out the best way to run our team in the remaining games. Throughout that period Yao will have bad games and so will Tmac. They will pick each other's game up and the rest of the team because they are both great. I just can't believe the "media" doesn't understand how good we can be with both of these stars sharing the load on offense. It's fine with me, let them be blindsided come playoff time, although I think people will take notice pretty soon.
The Suns don't seem to have a "killer" mentality... nor do the Spurs... I really don't think it's necessary.
Well, as the playoffs approach, I think its more of a message for the entire team, not just Yao...With Yao coming back from an injury, I can see his hesitation, but that means someone else has to step up, notably T-Mac and crew... As stated earlier, this team will only go as far as Yao and T-mac take them...I have complete confidence that when the playoffs roll around, you'll see the Rox be the team they're suppose to be...
I think it is not the block , it is Yao's missed layup sealed the win. After that soft layup missed, Yao finially played like a man for two seconds and blocked that shot in that span.
Not sure that Yao can't lead the team. Still remember Yao kicked Spur's ass, speak $#@% to Clipper? If Yao didn't have the injury, he might develop more deadly killer mentality than TMAC's. Those loses to Warriors and Lakers are growing pains.
LOL - again you are incorrect, it is EXACTLY what I was talking about. This is about JVG and how he doesn't directly criticize Tmac, he alludes to it. If he said " Tmac really didn't bring the defensive energy tonight" That would be criticizing him directly, but JVG doesn't do that...not to Tmac, he says things like " Tmac was very good offensively tonight, we have to get better at bringing energy on both ends of the floor" See how that is a backhanded criticism, instead of a direct one? That is what I am talking about, oh addled brained one. And you would have search abilities, and you know how to get them. DD
Let's get a standard down first: What do you mean by "Killer Mentality" or "Killer Instinct"? What would your definition of it be?
