Look at the picture again, and look who's guarding Jackson. Manu's angle to cut off the passing lane is well within him stealing the ball, should Francis attempt that pass. It's also about 15 ft. and not five feet.

This is the NBA, in this league when someone has the angle that Ginobli does that pass gets picked off or at the least tips it out of bounds. With Manu's speed I'd bet it gets picked off.

Q: What's been more thoroughly analyzed, Stevie's shot or Janet's nipple?

A: It's a toss-up, but they both seem to be past their prime.

Nice. he clearly had options. JJ was clearly open, especially just before and as Steve cuts r around the SP pick for the last time.

I have looked the film over a few times...no doubt. If Steve was on an island, he wasn't trying hard to get off. He has several options, and Horry's take looks about right. And he could have gotten by RH easy, he'd given him the lane. Instead Steve chooses to go back, and to the right.

    Back...and to the right.

    Back...and to the right.

Very clever reconstruction of the interview; you really had me buying into it. As to the "Alexandra" reference, I have no clue. A literary reference?

The government would have you believe what has come to be known as the "Magic Dribble Theory".

    A) You said 'surely you are...' or something.

    B) I immediately thought of Airplane!

    C) I'm an idiot losing his mind.

    Does this explain it?

So does intelligence in understanding sarcasm.

Anyway, JVG also said the play didn't have any options after the Padgett pick and he will do a better job of designing a play.

After watching the video: Francis' first mistake is pushing the ball up court along the sideline. At this point in his career, the dude should know that the fastbreak is run in the middle of the floor. Second, dude didn't use the pick well at all. I am a bad player and even I know to "rub shoulders" with the pick. Of course the first pick wasn't well set to begin with, but it falls on the ball handler to set the defender up for the pick. Beyond that, the team just looked confused. I think Yao should have flashed into the lane so Francis had a bail out option for an easy two. I don't know what JVG's orders were, but the easy layup was there for the taking. There was enough time to score, foul and try again.

Yet every Rocket on the court were far better shooters than SF and JJ did have a game winning shot the game before.

His assist to turnover ration is horrible so I guess he didn't want to risk a pass and get a turnover, so he dribbled it out and took an ill advised shot. Thats just really poor decision making, JVG could not have authorized that play.

JVG said that to deflect criticism, you know why, because JVG always goes to bat for his players...dude is real, he knows francis is taking a lot of heat...

steve, JVG thinks your an idiot, but he got your back....for now

I don't know why none of the guys on the team cut or even set screens for each other. Once Francis was in trouble, somebody had to do something to come free to counter the fact SA was switching everything.

SF gets paid alot of money to make decisions like that! Excuses excuses this guy cant make a decision to save his life. He knew what type of situation he was going to be in. There is no hope for this guy. What a waste of space.

Just saw the final seconds of the game. Too bad they were out of time outs because 3 players were just standing around at the end. JJ, Mobley and Ming.

Steve could have passed to JJ. Probaby should have but JJ should have came towards Steve more to make sure a pass would be OK.

At 3 points down, any drive to the basket would be igored and rightly so by the Spurs. Steve needed to use his picks better.

Bottomline, JJ was a better option but not a great one. It wasn't going to be an open shot. Ming and Mobley was "lost" in the play. Steve made do with his guts and missed the shot.

But you all seem to forget they were down 11 at the start of the forth. It was a lost cause because the Spurs are the best Defensive team in the league. They came back and tied the game. No small effort. Too bad they lost but these things happen.
