Is that really the text of the interview?? I haven't read the "I would have taken the shot anyway" thread yet, so if it's there, I apologize, but DAMN! Van Gundy couldn't be any clearer about what he thinks of Francis. Even if it's tongue in cheek, that's still a hell of a thing to say. He has to be royally pi**ed at Francis. I'm still getting used to the way he talks about players. I'm frequently P-O'd at Francis myself, and was yelling at the TV last night at the end of the game, but still... can someone explain what sort of psychology he's using? Is it just going past me? Thanks.

It was evident to me that Steve wanted to take the last shot. I really do not blame Steve even though it was his mistake. I think he is hearing "it" from too many people. I mean, KG is questioned everytime he passes up the big shot. Steve is questioned when he doesn't pass the big shot. I think Steve is maturing but I don't know if he'll ever be able to make the right decision when it counts. But, he is not scared too take the big shot (and that is huge). When Steve's brain catches up to his balls, Steve will become the "franchise" player that we want to see!

I taped the game. Jackson was open and Ginobili was starting to shade the paint in case Francis drove for 2.

I taped the game a well and I'm going to go look at it. I thought he should have passed to JJ when I was watching it, but I wasn't sure later.

1.JJ was not open, any effort to make that place and the ball belongs to the Spurs.

    2. I would suggest that JJ run across to the other side of the key while Yao crosses. JJ then picks Yao's man off of him, and Steve comes left and passes inside to Yao. Meanwhile JJ has roamed out to the top of the 3 pt line and Steve to JJ's spot. Yao then passes to the open man for a look at the 3.

    3. I lay blame at Steve's feet as well.

But as far as this JVG is covering up Steve crud I've been hearing, get real. People need to be consistent. Was JVG covering up for Steve about the whole superbowl thing?

Basically people are saying JVG is honest when he points out what Steve does wrong, but JVG is just covering up when his words don't incriminate Steve. I place blame or at least some of it on Steve in both areas, but in this last second shot. JVG is absolutely correct that other people should have moved.

Totally agree. Plus Jackson is a much better 3 point shooter than Steve this year. Steve wanted to take the big shot no matter what just like Horry said.

It is true, but it is also frustrating to see some people use this example to say steve was completely not at fault this time while labeling JVG a fiend for the Super Bowl incident.

I just watched it. Jackson was clearly open for a pass. Ginobili shaded off of him a little in cause Francis drove for the basket. I looked at it twice. JJ even moved closer to Francis with his hands ready for a pass when he didn't get the ball. I'm trying to be open-minded about this, but Steve either blew it or he can't see the court worth ****. I think he blew it. Just look at the tape, people. The video capture really doesn't show how good an opportunity there was.

MacBeth, you're the devil! I bought it hook, line amd sinker. :D

i read the quote and thougth it said steve is on a stranded island meaning he tried to do it all himself. this line can be interperted in 2 ways. I interperted it in a way signifying as steve fault and not the team when i first read it.

Maybe because SF simply sucks in recent games and doesn't live up to his contract. fans are not that biased. After the first game vs. Nets, SF got a lot of praises. You want to support SF, no problem at all. But that is different than "SF can do nothing wrong" attitude. You are looking at the facts that he performed poorly in a long stretch and you just try to twist the fact in 100 ways. That is not the support SF need. Will you honestly say that you will tell SF "keep going 1-on-1 on last posession" or "shoot the ball with 5-secs left in the quarter so opponents get a chance too"? Because SF has said he will do those again. Eveyone commits mistakes, but keeping making the same mistakes is called stupidity and SF is a perfect example.

MacBeth, is this a joke, or is it for real? Surely this is a joke. I can't imagine JVG saying that.
