SF - You will be hard pressed to find any post I've ever typed that is critical of VG as a coach. In fact, I've gone out of my way to support VG when this board goes ballistic over VG wanting to slow down transition tempo. However, for whatever positive attributes VG has...and there are many...he has not from a coaching or talent evaluation aspect realized that it's 2007 and David Stern (among other powers that be) wants the game officiated to favor the offense. Further, if VG is standing at the crossroads of decision...and the pathways diverge at consistent, predictable, and unathletic versus less consistent and predictable but with an athletic and/or offensive-oriented upside potential...VG ALWAYS opts for the former. Being a brilliant defensive strategist and able to instantly recall an opposing players' stats and tendencies during the final 60 seconds of a game is NO substitute for imagination and foresight. Bottomline IMHO, you can't give VG max props for 52 wins and ignore the roster he approved of and/or played. It would be as if you coached a YMCA team and fumbled thru the Y's draft process but finished 2nd in the league. With better player selection and management, maybe you should have finished first. Divorcing those two aspects is unrealistic.
