Did anyone listen? I heard the first part. He said it was unfair to place the blame on Steve and Cuttino when the team loses. He said that there is a tendency to do that, and it's unfair. He also said Steve has improved, that his defense is better but that he had a long way to go. Now Charlie and Rich are talking about how they need a true 3.
Well, I hate to say this, but JVg might be an idiot.I and alot of us all seen for years how Steve and Mobley are stupid especially Mobley, and although he does things well,he just cant pass to save his life and this in turn makes the offense sputter. If JVG is this serious to stick with cat/steve forever, then screw him,Id rather have Rudy back. Atleast I heard that Rudy entertained the idea of tradeing Mobley for Brand. So far what Ive seen from JVg is that he is just so damn loyal to his so called players like Ewing, then Spreewell, then Allan Houston, now Steve and now Mobley. I wouldnt be surprised if even this team missed the playoffs there wouldnt be any major trades. This sucks. It looks like JVg is all talk and no action. Isnt that the Neopolean syndrome. Where short guys act crazy and talk smack to try to over compensate for their short stature? JVG has shown me nothing so far except mistakes. He makes sense in his comments, but the players dont do what he says, yet he still feels the need to stay loyal? Whats that about. It isnt like he has been here years and bonded with Cat. So in other words,if the rockets playing this bad doesnt make a trade happen, then nothing will ever.
Great .. Now I am going to have Night Terrors for a week. It's sad but you might be right .. he prolly is better than mooch
Okay .. Alot of people here, including myself, believe that there is no urgent need to trade Steve or Cat. Steve could play better and is improving and Cat is not playing bad at all. I'm sorry, but he has played a hell of a lot better than most players on this team. Again he has improved this year also. They are playing selfish ball, but nowhere near as selfish as last year. If the "right deal" came up, I am not opposed to a trade. Too bad many people here are willing to trade great players for a box of chocolates. I'm glad JVG and the Rockets are smarter than that. JVG has had only a handful of games with this team, and because he doesn't want to dismantle it like many irrational people on this board HE IS THE IDIOT!? I think i'll give this man who is highly respected in the basketball world a little more chance than 16 games before calling him an "idiot". Give him a chance.
Come on, now. Who are you kidding? You've been saying this for awhile now. And as for Charlie and Rich saying we need a true 3, that's correct. We're getting killed at the forward spots. And of course JVG's gonna stick by his players. If or until a trade happens, he's stuck with them, and you certainly can't come out and say, These guys are gone, until they ARE gone. JVG did sound tired. He sounds as tired as he looks, and maybe that helps his d-o-u-r image.
didn't Tim say a while back he hated doing those radio show type things and wouldn't be doing any, perhaps management made him do it for publicity and ticket sales, my guess is his dour approach was because he doesn't like doingt his stuff.
I agree. Even if he wanted to make a few moves and trade some players, it would be ill-advised as a coach to start talking down on your players too much, its just going to affect the morale of the whole team. No player is going to work hard for a coach or a team if they feel like they are not welcome and will be traded at the first opportunity. It would aso make surronding players question their own value and security at a club. JVG needs to get the players onside and working with him, not against him, and it sounds like thats what he has done in this interview
That's true. Bill Cartwright blasted Jamal Crawford and Jalen Rose to the media, which was a big mistake. Crawford and Rose took it personally. Bulls team morale hit new lows. There was huge tension in that team, it was like a Bulls soap opera. It's not a good idea for a coach to do that.
This is disappointing news to hear that Steve Francis is still considered untradeble. I'm fine with him moving over to the SG spot, but this team will never go any where with him at PG. On 610 they brought up a stat that says it all. I'm not sure what the exact criteria was but there are 42 guards that average 30+ minutes per game in the NBA. Of those 42 he ranks 42nd in assist to turnover ratio.
As has been brought up before, its a team sport and the assists he makes are dependant on other players scoring off his passes. Again, I don't get to see many games, but i am assuming that this would be a big part of it. I conceed that he does turn the ball over way too much
SOME (big emphasis) of the problem comes from: 1. The system is designed for Steve to either get the ball to the guy who will be making the final pass or decision to shoot or to be on the end of the assist meaning he is the one taking the shot. He's not the guy creating the plays in the half court. In a low post offense in particular, the need for guards with high assist numbers is minimized because the offense doesn't run through them. 2. Teams and players rack up assists when they shoot the ball well, take a lot of shots and run the break with regularity. The Rockets are sub par if not bottom of the league in all three areas. Frankly, as a team, the Rockets are a poor assist team. However, Francis' biggest problem is his penchant for trying to take the game on his shoulders. Hakeem used to take on double and triple teams and get criticized like CRAZY by fans and even coaches. He learned, eventually, to trust his teammates and give up the rock. In the case of Francis, the problem is magnified because he has to handle the ball more than just in the post. I personally think that Francis will eventually figure it out - probably about the time Yao becomes more agressive. I'm not, however, convinced Mobley will.
