Negativity isn't the best tool to motivate. Each player relates and communicates with a coach differently. It's not reasonable to force everyone to conform to you.

Especially not by Rookie Coaches, right?

Agreed, but JVG never in his life built a well-tuned system.

Frankly speaking, I think JVG is a good coach. But as one of the highest paid coaches in the league, I definitely think he's overrated. I strongly believe that he could be doing a lot better, and that may be because he's not necessarily the best coach for his roster.

ok  why is what van gundy does with his second and third team more important to you than what he does when his players are healthy?

Avery Johnson undressed him last year
Down 2-0 and then won 4 of 5
Game 7 is the where i think the issue lies
AJ had his guys ready .. JVG did not
say its the players or whatever . .it is what it is
    JVG's guys were not ready

JVG reminds me of Jerry Sloan
    they are both GOOD Coaches
    but
I don't think they allow their clubs to have the 5th gear
that GREAT teams need in the playoffs
    plus
I don't think they are great Motivators

Fear and intimidation will only go so far

I do not understand why anyone would think using fear to motivate is a good attribute. It does not instill loyalty, confidence, or that "team" sense.

Many here point out that Tracy has said in the past that JVG is the best coach he has worked with. Others have carried it further and said that all his players have said that. Recall recently Marcus Camby talking about JVG coaching style as affecting his game long term -hurting his offfensive approach to the game. JVG is not universally loved by those he has coached.

I do not like the negativity, seldom praising players, but I will support JVG as the coach because I am a fan of the team first.

Getting that team to 3-1 without a legit power forward on the squad was a certified miracle. The loss last year had nothing to do with motivation. It had to do with having Padge and Bowen at the 4, and your starting point and shooting guard playing on shreaded knees.

Revisionist history if I've ever heard it. And for the guy's calling AJ a rookie coach, he's the most battle tested rookie coach out there. JVG wasn't out-coached, he was outmanned, plain and simple.

I was not condoning -ok with -players taking the coach to the media or anything. That is a two way street of respect. I do not like the negativity I hear in the media from our Rockets coach. I do not want to hear a player bad mouthing him either.

The coach should take the high road and dress down a player in private, praise him when he is on the right track( I know they make millions and that is their job-but try to build chemistry).

We do not have a Terrell Owens on this team-he got traded to Portland in 1999 and we recieved garbage in return (Pippen should burn in hell)

He is way underrated for not knowing how to adjust. I mean the whole world knows Sun's game plan before the game even play. Run, run, run, PnP against Yao, double and triple our stars in the paint. What JVG do? Stick to Juwan Howard in the starting lineup, put in his lover Ray Bowen and take out both Yao and T-Mac. He is a genius.
