and in which of the 3 years do you think we had the better team in the first round losses... payton bryant fox malone oneal terry finley howard nowitski dampier williams fisher ak boozer okur plus a superior bench just tell me which series you think we should have won and specific moves in the games that would have turned the tide
2-0 series lead where you only have to win 2 of the next 5 games......come on......... JVG failed, he failed to make adjusments when other teams did, he flat out failed. You have homecourt, you should win, right? JVG failed as a Rockets coach, and those are the facts. DD
lol. He failed because he only got 2 more wins than Rudy. tinman and TheFreak will probably agree: He failed because he wasn't Rudy.
You have a brain, you should take your own advice and shut up about this. You have bumped this stupid thread 28 times and counting. Stop it.
They should agree, they are smart men !!! Spoiler 2 more wins in Yao's 2nd year where he was maturing.......yep, that is a MASSIVE upgrade....NOT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Sam....I have not bumped it 20-ish times, but thanks for playing Sam Fisher police, where you can come in and pretend you are a moderator... So...uh....you stop it....... Sam Fisher's comments...."Wah...wah....you stop it DD, you are making fun of my mancrush, I will scratch your eyes out if you don't stop, Jeff Van Baldy is my hero" Wah, wah wah..... Mr. Clutch, Spoiler How is JVG's failure as coach an opinion? Isn't his job to make the team a contender? He failed to do that. DD
looking for specific adjustments that you say he didnt make...give examples, strut your basketball stuff. its easy to call someone a failure and another reason to say why he failed specifically. the rockets had homecourt advantage once in 3 years. do you call dantoni a failure because hes lost to san antonio with homecourt advantage? has he made them a contender? on the 2 more wins in jvg's first season...its significant...they traded rice for nothing to get under the luxury tax, griffin missed the whole year, posey was lost to memphis to nothing...so yes he won two more games with much less talent
Take the time to do some research and you will find specific examples by me about his lack of adjustments in particular series...but to be specific... Spoiler In the Dallas series of 3 years ago, Avery made an adjustment to go small and JVG failed to counter, and this year, JVG whined all ****ING year about Yao and his inability to cover the Pick and Roll at the top of the key, and in the playoffs, late in close games Williams and Boozer exploited that weakness again and again...here is an idea....give Yao some help, don't ask him to do something he is physically unable to do..... Spoiler Oh give me a break !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Two whole wins more? And Yao is in his 2nd year after he has adjusted to the USA and the NBA.....uh yeah, that is hugely significant.....NOT ! Look you guys know I hated JVG, and think he was an utter failure as a coach of the Rockets. Why continue the debate we are wasting time and server space, and none of us are going to change the other one's opinion. I think JVG was a coach that stagnated the franchise and some of you think that 50+ wins is a good showing. Just different standards I guess.. I am done with this thread, this is a tired argument, unless someone comes in and gives JVG an un-needed reach around this argument and thread has played out. JVG was FIRED, nuff said. DD
denniscd, pleeeeeease don't feed the beast. Some of us are sick and tired to death of DD & JVG. Just give it up and move on. You will NOT get in the last word. There is no blood left in this dead horse.
To be fair, we weren't expected to win the first two. But the last one was very disappointing. Don't tell me you didn't expect us to get out of the first round last season. It was what got him fired. That's a fact. Whoever said that JVG brought in a winning culture implied that Rudy was a loser. That's clearly not true. JVG is a good coach. But his results weren't a lot (if any) better than Rudy's, in terms of winning. The turning point was the T-Mac trade, not the JVG hiring. I know you hate CD, and I know the T-Mac trade was largely by T-Mac's own choice. But give CD some credit for getting it done. And I still believe that the futile roster shuffling in the past few years has a lot of JVG's fingerprints on it.
EDIT You're right, you're now up to 32 times, the last two came after you pledged, for the second time, that you were done with this thread forever Who Posted? Total Posts: 191 Username Posts DaDakota 30
i cant let bias that is unsubstantiated go on...dallas didnt go small...yao got better at defending the high pick and roll...but how much more help can you give him...run and leave a 3rd man alone...you dadakota just talk in basketball cliches...never have a solution only quick to point the finger of blame...man i just wish i could see you coach or run your business to pick you apart like you pick people apart anonymously on this board...man oh man
Rice wasn't even on the team the previous season or didn't play. Posey and Juaqin Hawkins played SF all year. Griffin was not good. His loss didn't hurt at all. Jim Jackson replaced Posey. That was an upgrade. Yao's FIRST training camp = significant upgrade. And for Nike, this is why I posted in this thread. Not to bash JVG.
Spoiler 31 now Sam !!! I hope you can count that high....shouldn't you be bashing V-span relentlessly in another thread? Isn't that your MO? Oh, you mean like your incessant ranting about CD? That unsubstantiated full of garbage type of bias? You mean that kind..... Dallas went small when Keith Van Horn got injured. How would I help Yao on the pick and roll? I would not ask him to leave the paint to cover it at the high post, mix in a little zone defense to protect against it. Or switch Yao's primary defensive assignment to a guy who is not a threat at the high post and on the roll like Boozer is.....have him guard a singular threat player instead of a dual threat....maybe Okur... Maybe trap the PG before the pick...lots of different ways to disrupt it....but those are all just cliches...right? And how dare I have an opinion on an internet message board, I mean the nerve of that.......get a clue dennis....this is a team's message board a place to share ideas and thoughts on the Rockets.....and guess what, you are not going to like everyone's thoughts or opinions.....just as everyone is not going to like yours either. We are all still fans of the Rockets, right? What do you think you are doing by trying to pick apart my posts? The same thing you are whining about others doing. If you are truly going to get into coaching etc, you need to get thicker skin, the internet is here to stay, and people are going to have opinions positive and negative about the way you go about your business, as for me, you will have the chance soon enough to pick apart my business methods. My new venture is going to be very public...I look forward to your critique, hopefully you will learn how to capitalize by then. Do yourself a favor and put me on ignore if you don't like my opinions. DD
no i love picking apart your innate biases. i also can tell by your rudimetary suggestions that you probably have never coached. when you coach like i do, you quickly realize that you dont know all the answers and some weaknesses will always be weaknesses in players...you just try and hide them the best you can. it is easy to pick apart others...i have no true desire to do that with you and your venture...its probably difficult to succeed in what you do just like its difficult to succeed in coaching. and since i have no true business knowledge, i would not come onto any board and just randomly criticize without any experience or knowledge...that is what i feel you do here...so i just detest the message you constantly try and reinforce...that you are full of answers instead of just stating i dont like it but i really dont know the solutions. ill let the experts (the coaches) decide and then support them no matter what
[sarcasm]Really? A coach tries to hide his players weaknesses and exploit the other teams weaknesses? You don't say....[/sarcasm] Note to dennisCD - This is a Rockets team message board, it is to discuss those very decisions the coach makes regarding the Rockets, and yes that includes dissecting the way the team was coached, whether you like it or not. And not everyone is going to agree, I hate JVG ugly ball, and love the style Adelman brings - you may feel differently. Doesn't make either one of us more right than the other one, just different preferences. An NBA coach has to be willing to be critiqued ad nauseum, it comes with the territory. Yes, it is difficult to suceed in my field as well as coaching, no doubt about it, but that does not mean that people should blindly follow the direction of the CEO or head coach, because - NEWSFLASH - they can be wrong too.... And when they are wrong they get fired, in my field as in coaching. Fair enough, but just to be clear, some coaches are morons and don't have any more answers than someone on a message board, so I would hardly call them all experts. As to solutions, again this is a message board, it is a place to discuss the team, whether they are a "dennisCD certified" expert or not. No one is saying they have all the answers, particularly me, but you asked me how I would handle the PnR and I tossed out a couple of "SUGGESTIONS" as to how I would try to work around Yao's weaknesses, primarily his lack of footspeed. Now I am off to play some noon time basketball, my team needs a fat, old, PG, and I know just where they can find one.... DD
no coaches in the nba are morons...they wouldnt get to that level by being morons...it just shows you the contempt you have for coaches but also your lack of knowledge just how hard it is to be one of the 30 head coaches in the nba. they cannot even be compared to posters on a message board, but you are over the top on so many of your critiques.
There are plenty of people who get elevated beyond their level of competency, including head coaches in the NBA. I don't know what planet you are living on, but not all head coaches are good, even in the NBA. Here is some shocking news for you though, I think JVG is a good coach, I just don't like his system or methodology, or ways of managing the personalities on the team. DD
Be careful, DaDakota is undefeated as his kids soccer coach. But anyways, this is getting old. JVG's career regular season and postseason records stand for themselves. He's smart, well-prepared, and it's no secret that others around the world in the basketball business have tremendous respect for him. His teams are always competitive regardless of talent. I liked him as coach and as a man, but it's his fault for not taking the extension in early March. He did the same in NY, and in that same season, he took his team to the Finals and got himself an even nice extension. I guess he thought the same would happen once Yao got back. But once again, he's gone, I thought it was the wrong move to let him go, but we got a great coach in Adelman. No more "talent" excuses. It's on TMac, not JVG, not Adelman, but TMac.
