I'm sure the Miami Heat fanbase has just increased 500%.

Good point. And odds makers are going to have a hell of a time coming up with season over/under totals. Last year, they were only 33% correct in coming within +/- 3 games...they'll be even more lost this year. League Pass ftw.

    This!

The poll last month blew me away and shows how irrational things have become (IMO). Or perhaps most of the members who preferred the Lakers to win are youngsters who don't appreciate Rockets/Lakers history.

I dont think JVG's prediction was that crazy. If you think about it, in the east only Boston and Orlando have a shot at beating them. In the west, there's obviously a lot more competition, but they'll probably win the overwhelming majority of those matchups too.

Even the biggest Heat hater has to admit that the Heat will at least win 50-60 games this season, and I think they have the potential to break the 72 game record.

Yeah... As far as current teams, I still hate Kobe, Vujacic, and Gasol more than the Heat until I have a reason to do otherwise.

Every team will play their best game of the year against them. They will have great players, do doubt, but will they be a great "team?" I predict they don't get past their neighbors down the road. (at least I hope so....poetic justice for scamming the league).

This is what I think too. They're going to have a target on their backs for 82 games.

It will be interesting to see what happens.

Definitely. Kobe's bandwagon is going to have an inferiority complex this season.

Honestly I don't believe egos will be a problem, obviously lebron will get the ball late because he basically plays like a point forward with the way he distributes and handles the ball, the guy actually took heat for passing it to varejo on a game winning shot in last year's playoffs instead of taking it himself even though varehjo had a good look.

Now that won't be a problem with him passing to wade and bosh, and Im sure those guys will be happy playing off lebron with all the attention he draws, it's only going to make things easier for them.

These guys played terrible together on Team USA. This is going to be epic fail. They'll be lucky to win 12 games.

Why do we think ego will be a factor for 3 guys that have supposedely been planning to play together for years now, and took less $$ to make it happen? That sound more like a wish for egos to get in the way to me. Either way, Kobe and Shaq were both alpha males and it worked just fine. So were Moses and Dr J. So were Hakeem and Clyde. I think the Heat have a shot at the record but not this year. Now in the next 2 years when they get their MLE back and can get a legit center or a real PG? That will be scary.

He's really going over the top with his predictions. I expect them to be a great team, but those forecasts are a bit much. Of course, the great thing about predictions is that by the time the season ends, people have forgotten them, so the person who made them never looks bad. Let's look back at the end of the season and see how many of how many of these things came true.

Maybe Jeff trying to jinx them? :) Of course, the best thing for NBA profit would be for that team to really be great. Whether they are going to be seen as heros or villains, any team possibly achieving a record in wins draws attention to the league.

My only problem with these the notion that they'll be unguardable is that we've seen this before and that ended up not being true.

When the 2007-2008 Celtics formed everyone thought (or at least I did) automatic championship. You can't guard 3 guys who were each in, what, the top 15 in scoring the previous year? You'll have to double all 3 guys and they're all going to go off since you simply can't guard that.

Despite all that hype, they ended up being merely decent offensively (11th PPG, 10th OFF Rtg) It was their defense that was other worldly because 1) They had one of the greatest casts of defenders ever and 2) they had Tom Thibideau.

If the Heat can defend like that sure they could be a dynasty. If not, you're just going to see their offensive talents wasted while they stand around watching each other.

That's because Doc Rivers is not a great offensive coach. Change him into Adelman and that Celtics team will blow away everybody.

Do you remember the Rockets offense when we had McGrady, Yao, and Artest or even the year before that?

Style matters. Adelmans offense is built around passing and cutting. If you don't have the personel to run the system then it becoems an after thought with the players doing what they've always done. Which was for those guys to take turns isolating.

What is LeBron's, Wade's, and Bosh's primary offensive focus? Isolation.

Cleveland's top 3 scorers averaged 61.3 PPG last year. Does anyone think the Miami big 3 will average much more than that? Before answering keep in mind the Celtic Big 3 went from ~73.5 to ~55.

I think people get some ridiculous idea that each guy is going to average 30 and be unstoppable. Not even close.

seriously, we havent seen them play a game yet and somehow, all u bbs-geniuses know how theyre going to turn out. i realize theres nothing much to talk about in the offseason n ur all just posting ur opinions, but at least try to word it out without sounding like a bunch of know-it-all douchbags. n at least save urselves the embarassment when someone points out ur dumbass posts later in the season and hopefully most of u dont spend countless posts backtracking n flipflopping trying to 'explain' ur previous statements.

bbs ego > lebron's ego on espn

If ego was an issue, they wouldn't have all signed together in the first place- for less money than they otherwise could have gotten, no less.

These are not selfish players, which makes the team that much more scary.

It's not like any of these guys is an Iverson or a Kobe. None seem to really care that much about being the next "Jordan." They just want to play together and win. As much as I hate LeBron's decision, you have to respect them for trying to create a dynasty.

I think people are uncomfortable with players creating a dynasty. If the GM of some franchise trades for 3 superstars (like Boston did) then no one complains. If 3 superstars agree to play to sign with the same time, everyone freaks out. It's hypocritical but I understand the sentiment.

Either way, we'll get over it and have to deal with the reality of a Miami franchise with perhaps the two best players in the NBA plus another Top 10 player. It will be scary.

The Heat will lose their season opener to the Celtics. Book it.
