rockets would probably be a 7th seed. with the lack of offensive weapons, defense is the primary reason rockets won so many games.

I think looking at our roster we aren't in that great a position player wise....

looking at the phoenix, dallas, GS, Utah, Piston, SA, rosters, considering mismatches, depth, starters, rotations, youth, athleticism in the big picture I am concerned for the franchise.

Got to love Yao and Tracy, but they are what they are,
Yao leaves us some defensive and rebounding questions do to his size and awkwardness.
Tracy has questions about his health and wear and tear...

I really think we have way too many d-league players and over the hill scrubs on the roster- duh

Being hard core Rocket fan, I would like to see us really get alot smart on personnel asap...

And I think great rosters make for great coaches.

The question I am pondering is would a different coach this season really had made a difference, especially considering the support Grumpy seems to get from the better players?

I don't know, I have been very influenced just by the hour I spent talking with him at the beginning of the season, he came across to me as being very good communicator, very honest, and very BB smart. I didn't get the impression he hated rookies, fast breaks and winning.

Why? Whats the rational behind it...because we would have a better offense and we would do more than just P&Rs and put Yao on the low post? Or because of our defense?

    I'm curious.

im guessing he will say that vpsan, snyder and novak would have played more and thats enough for them to win. maybe a zone reference will be thrown in as well.

I don't think the record in the last part of the season supports that. Scoring by oppenents went up but so did scoring by the Rockets. A similar thing happened in 2005.

No doubt about making the second round with a different coach? There is doubt that we even make the playoffs with Yao missing 2 months and Tracy injured for part of the year.

It wouldnt be surprising that scoring went up b/c yao was back and getting into the flow, plus playing uptempo teams which naturally get you more possessions.

they did go 5-4 down the stretch. not very impressive really.

People seem to be afraid of the shock of the new. Instead they would prefer to lose under familiar circumstances.

That's my point though the Rox defense got worse While they were playing up tempo teams they have played up tempo teams every month yet the overall trend is opponents score going down.

Also in regard to the Rox offense it actually got worse too in April with the Rox averaging around 95 points per game while in March they were averaging almost a 100.

So the Rox at the end of the season were both scoring less and defending less.

the opportunity was there to win with current roster and current coach. I personally believe that that last few minutes of a game are where players win games and show what they are made of, and i think our players did that.

I'm still completely on the fence on this one. I'll post what I said in the Vescey thread:

I'm in a grey area with JVG. I understand what he's brought to the team, but I also am completely aware of all of his glaring weaknesses...

Now that Rick Carlisle is on the market, though, there is an out... In other words, I am ONLY ok with losing JVG if we get Carlisle in return. (I don't think any other good coaches will be on the market this off-season, and I don't really think we should bring in some unproven no-name when we're trying to contend right now.)

It would definitely be an upgrade to get Carlisle, though. He is one of THE very best coaches in the league right now.
