Well ok, but it sounds more like a personality theory rather than a brain theory. You could certainly make a case for seeking to identify personality traits that make up a highly sucessful athlete and seek to test this. However, when the theory is based on a hunch and is not tested empirically at all it is therefore completely atheoretical and therefore invalid. I also doubt that a brain type theory would be the most important thing when assessing a player's potential, or that this is the only thing that accounts for Tracy's success. That said, it is an interesting concept especially because to be extremely sucessful in a team game you have to have somewhat contradictory traits, in that you need to have a huge amount of personal drive, competitiveness and desire to be the best individually but also want your team to succeed, have the desire to improve others around you and make personal sacrifices for the good of the team. This is a fine balancing act, and there are many players who have the first aspect in abundance but very little of the 2nd, resulting in many individual accolades but little team success (AI, Kobe (now), Steve etc). In this regard I think we can see that T-Mac has a great temperament as not only can he take the team on his shoulders, he is just as adept at finding and having confidence in his teammates.
I almost had a wreck one time when the Golf Hour was on, the eyelids was getting pretty heavy when Harmon's voive was on the air! I think listening to a play by play crickett match is better than Harmon, hell, even listening to my girlfriend biching at me is better than Harmon!
We lost the log of it. I shoulda put a note in here. Basically we have a running log, in thirty minute chunks, of everything we air. It does what cassettes used to do, logs what we air for legal reasons. The feed dicked up. Jeremy pulled a bunch of it but not enough to run.
heh...just giving ya a hard time Chance. tho...I really do feel that it woul dbe a good idea to put up any and all coaches/players segments until the streaming thing comes thru so that all the out of towners and those of us who cant listen to every minute of the shows can catch them...best I get is getting to liisten to J and L for a couple of hours inthe mornings...Im unable to listen to the afternoon shows at all cause of where I am then.. Im sure there are lots of folks that would appreciate it..
Do you not haved buttons allowing you to switch to 790 or news or music or something intelligent like Morning Edition?
Chance, were you at the Yao screening earlier in the evening? I saw Marc and Rich and Lance there. I really enjoyed the movie, it was great.
I had a bible study to attend. I was going to go and then I remembered my commitment so I flamed. I saw it a couple weeks ago and thought it was spectaclular.
It sure was, thanks a bunch to you guys (and Clutch) for those tickets, although to be honest I was going to pay to see the movie anyways
Well, I've read some of the book, this is what I understand so far, keep in mind that I personally don't take it all that seriously. It's similar to the Jung-Myers-Briggs typology. I don't think any of those guys were psychologists, the guy who does the brain typing I brought up isn't either. You can laugh at it if you want, like I said I don't take it too seriously either. However, there are a lot of interesting concepts in the book, especially in sports. These are the 8 diferent personality traits it is based on with a quick description of them. Introversion or extraversion. Measures your energy level or how you use your energy. Someone who is introverted would conserve his energy as opposed to an extraverted person who would appear to be more energetic. Sensing or intuition. How information is gathered or perceived. The sensing person basically deals with fact, they use their five senses to gather information. The intuitive person sees beyond fact, they use a "sixth" sense, instead of seeing what is they see what could be. Thinking or feeling. How information is reasoned or how you make decisions. The thinking person is more logical and objective, a feeling person the emotional types, subjective. Judging or perceiving. I believe this is how you handle the outside world. A judging person is a more structured, organized person, a perceiving person can adapt and is flexible. There's a lot more to all that, it'll take forever to type though, however there is a website, braintypes.com. There's a Q and A section on it that should answer more of your questions.
