The three players that consistently look for Yao are: Clarence Weatherspoon Jim Jackson Eric Piatkowski I'm not saying that Steve and Mobes ignore Yao. I'm just saying that they don't have the "pass first" mentality and can't convert shots when Yao kicks out to the perimeter.
The last rockets game I got to watch before the Spurs one had Walton commentating and steve wired up to a mic and they'd cross to ever 1/2 hour or so to hear what he said. Anyway, Steve kept saying to Yao " Hey Yao, you got to ask for the ball more man......" And Walton jumped in with "Isn't Steve the Point Guard? Isn't it his job to dish to Yao?"
spalding...i am kinda kidding about Stevie being a poster, but I have seen a few comments that make you wonder...seemingly insider comments....but if I were a player, I think it would be a really funny thing to stir up the pot on the board a little...i bet someone has done it.... also, contrary to what everyone believes they do read the paper and net....they know what is being said...I am sure of it..Kevin Willis use to check it out occassionally....I am sure other players too...i would for sure
See that's the thing. Saying it is one thing, doing it is another. He might be saying it, but he doesnt do it as much as he should. When Taylor is at low post, guards didnt mind giving up the rock to him. You gotta wonder why the hell Taylor shot 14 times almost same as Ming. It's not like he's got a mismatch there, duncan, rose... Another thing, why Cato keep hogging the strong side postup position, and the guards dont shift at all. Should Cato be allowed to post up?
Steve does say that a lot. "Yao, you've got to be aggressive." Too bad Yao won't yell back, "OK, get me the ball, and while you're at it, you've got to be efficient." The Spurs game was the first Rox game I have seen in a couple weeks. Watching the game in Guadalajara, you have to put up with the Spanish-language announcers just adoring Manu. (Granted, I wouldn't mind the guy on the Rox.) What's more, listening to the announcers rip the Rockets in Spanish is interesting, the haphazard way our boys play, their lack of efficiency, etc.
