I like how you think my friend. George Would be perfect. He's a players coach and I bet he could bring out the best in the players that JVG doesnt..(nachbar, howard, yao!) van Gundy is so damn boring. Has anyone noticed Miami?? That team is also coached by a Van Gundy with a dominant center....how many fastbreak points do they average in their wins? 17 fastbreak ppg. Do you know what we average in our wins??? A whopping 6.5 ppg. That is unacceptable with the 1-2 punch of Yao and Tmac we have. And with the supporting cast that we have that can get easy points by running the floor (Sura, Nachbar, Taylor, Lue) There's no reason shouldnt be getting easy fastbreak points!!!

Excuse me, but whose job was it to land a good point guard in the offseason?

Why does everyone point the finger at the guy onstage instead of the guy backstage?

Because you can see him, that's why. And you can get rid of him more easily than you can get rid of the guys who touch the ball.

You're searching for your keys under a streetlight because it's too dark to look where you really lost them.

Don't just fire him, burn him at the stake.

JVG is Donald Rumsfeld - constitutionally incapable of understanding his own failures, stubbornly dogged to prove he is right in spite of all facts, incapable of change, ignoring the entire army brass, cutting deployment strength and belittling his own troops for not making him look smart by performing beyond their insufficient resources. Additionally politicizing tactics and failing to be flexible or deliver the killing blow.

Burn New Yorker, Burn! Burn in Hell forever.

    (1) Maybe, just maybe, a "good point guard" didn't want to play Jeff Van Gundy's "system?"

    (2) The way the Rockets work is that the head coach does the recruiting, CD deals with actually getting them signed. It was that was with RT, and remains that way now.

How is our offense different than San Antonio's? Don't they more or less slow it down, play the half court game, and try to get it into Duncan on every possession? The only difference it seems is that it only takes them less than 10 seconds to get it to Duncan while it takes us almost the entire shot clock to get it to Yao. But the point is that the general offensive plan is sound. We just don't execute it very well. This doesn't mean we should fire the coach and give up. We just need to keep working on it.

its true, jeff will be on the hotseat if we don't improve from last year.

i like to think of jeff as a highschool teacher. he is mean, and teaches only the basics. but basics are important if you want to get to the next level.

what we need now is a college professor. the guy who will teach you what it takes to be successful, prepares you for the real world, and REALLY know what he is talking about.

I agree I'm no JVG fan but we should give him some more time, not too much more though.

As for new team well wasn't the trade and getting Mutumbo supposed to make things go smoother? Wasn't getting rid of Francis and Mobley supposed to make things go better? (well it did go better for Francis because he's returned to his explosive form.) Instead we see the Rockets still plodding and making boneheaded mistakes like they did last year. We see flashes of brilliance from Yao but no consistency.

I've been troubled by JVG's inability to think creatively on offense or to motivate his players to play good offense since talk first surfaced about getting him. He got rid of the trouble makers and got the players he wants finally so I think he deserves a little more time but come All Star break that's when we should start thinking about a change.

If he's still here and we don't make the playoffs, or get blown out in the first round, he's gotta go.

Am I the only one that wonders what things would be like if we would of hired Larry Brown? Take it one step forward and what if we would of really went after Rasheed Wallace.

    Ming
    Wallace
    Jackson
    Mobley
    Francis

In the long run would we of been better? I guess time will tell.

    One more thought.

Does anyone know if there's the basketball equivalent of Phil Garner out there?

Someone who can come in shake up a stagnant offense, light a fire under the @sses of his players and get them to believe.

JVG is beginning to look a lot like Bill Parcells with both guys coming from failed New York teams. Both guys signed their old lead QBs/PGs along with them. The veterans that they have entrusted with playing key roles are failing. Vinny Testeverde = Charlie Ward

We had one. Unfortunately, he is the coach of the Los Angeles Lakers right now.

Phil Jackson got League Pass in his cabin in Wyoming. He probably watched this game with glee.
