I would love to be proven wrong, but the coach just plain sucks. I can't stand his demeanor. The Rockets will never get to the promise land under this *** wipe.
The Question is ROCKETS + TMAC > ROCKETS + FRANCIS running a JVG offense that is As of now. . . the answer is NO Rocket River
i'm not sure i agree. The trade was not T-Mac straight up for Francis. We also lost Mobley(our third scorer) and Cato(best defensive player). Our team played better last year then they do now. i love francis, i was sad we lost him, but T-Mac is so talented that i would have done the trade. The situation in orlando is better for Francis. And i think T-mac is better for the rockets. but time will tell.
I'm not the biggest van of van gundy, But i do not want Phil jackson with our team. Is is IMHO the most overreated coach in the nba.
Bolded part is unnecessary but unfortunately becoming a terrible habit for you ... you need to take a break for a while.
I hear a lot of people dismissing or at least minimizing the Rockets problems by saying something along these lines of "It's only nine games in the season". This is true. It is early in the season, but the last time I checked, games won and lost in the first half of the season count just as much as games in the end of the season. All games are equally important, especially since it doesn't look like the Rockets are a lock for the playoffs. The first nine games of the season is not the time to get in shape and work out the kinks. That's what the preseason and training camp is for. There are professional athletes, not kids who are showing up for the school year. It's their job always to be in shape and ready to play. They get paid millions for this job. The Rockets are digging themselves a serious hole. It's a major problem and I don't think it's premature to be worried.
Granted, each game IS important, and the team has dug a hole, but the reality is, we've only played 12% of the 2004-05 season. If our season was 25 games, and we were 4-6, the doomsday posts would be warranted. Remember, the Houston Astros started their amazing comeback after 72% of their season was complete. Anything can happen.
I have to admit that I was somewhat fooled by Jeff Van Gundy. During this TV appearances last year, he seemed pretty upbeat and complimentary of Yao and very eagar to coach him. It seems like his TV personality is quite different from his coaching personality. Once he got the coaching job, all the positive energy disappeared and the real Van Gundy appeared, who doesn't seem very pleasant. Ultimately, results matter. The next five games or so will show up which direction this team is headed.
It's 10 games in With an almost completely new team The crux of the problem is late game collapses, which may point to coaching, but more likely points to gelling together and getting/sustaining a rhythm together. It also speaks to the lack of a true distributer at the PG slot. And shooting the midrange shot. T-Mac has been fantastically unselfish. He distributes to shooters as he drives, they just don't knock down the open jumper. He would have probably 3 more AST per game (Easily) if they could just hit the 12-15' shot with more regularity. We had leads in the 4th in all of the losses in this losing streak. Let JVG coach and see what comes of it ... T-Mac and Yao will be here for the long term, we can change coaches later.
I've got a guarantee slamdunk of getting JVG booted. It's all on Yao. If Yao tells Les he won't sign an extension this offseason without Phil Jackson coming on board, Les will do that in a second. Yao is the big moneymaker for Les. It's all on Yao.
Several people on this message board have said they've seen and heard Jeff Van Gundy scream to Franchise and Mobley to push the ball up the court. By this JVG doesn't mean let's play a quick full court style. All he's saying is for the guards to push it up before the 8 sec violation and to avoid double teams. JVG as many others on this board have concurred--stinks. He's really overrated. You look at his Knick years and now and you see no difference. The Knicks had diffrent personell and the Rox both last year and this year have different personnell than those old Knick teams. As a coach you always have to adjust to the players strenghts. JVG is stubborn and I agree that the guy should be fired by the break if the rox are underperforming. Also Kenny Smith made a great point last night. THe rox aint going to win playing 80 posessions a game. To win you have to increase your shots and increase your posessions to give a greater margin for error. That's why the Rox last year matched Rudy's record 2 years ago and that's why the Rox underperfomed last year and that's why Chise the man is gone instead of this idiot at the helm.
This is so funny. JVG got pissed with Yao when he had a bad day with NJ game, but Rocks won. Then for the last two games, Yao played fairly well, Rocks lost early lead and blow the game. The heat is on JVG, hahaha... You know, JVG will soon worry about his job more than Yao's. It would be a hoot, if both Yao and T-mac play well next game against LAC, and Rocks lose again. What would JVG say then? BTW: Yao's ave. is 19.2 per game, and the leauge leader is 19.60. I sure hope yao can become the leader after couple more games.
First, JVG is not going to get canned in the middle of the season. Noone gets canned in the middle of the season unless they are in the East. JVG is not an idiot, but the dude is way too stubborn for his own good. I agree that incorporating a Knick-like playbook onto this team is just ludicrous.
If the Rockets go on a lengthy losing streak, or are out of the race by the break, it could very easily happen.
JVG is a muthafugging muthafugger. That's the truth. He said it himself. But I will say this too, If you hate the muthafuggin muthafugger its because you are a muthafugging muthafugger. Look at all the JVG haters. They have so many similar muthafuggin muthafugger jvg qualites, its unbelievable! These dudes hate a part of themselves!
