Because 2 years is longer than 9 games you moron. Stop typing in caps, it makes you seem dumber than you are, which is sad but true.
Wow. This is SO not helping your argument. Getting to the NBA lottery is NOT an accomplishment. Simply put, T-Mac > Francis. We had an opportunity to land a top 5 player, and we took it. End of story.
Sure, it's called a zone. I know. But my point is that Rudy is more an iso-coach anyways. So, it doesn't matter. Since Francis was here and he was buddy-buddy with the guy, he would have still given Francis the green-light. The good thing was that the management didn't want that to happen as long as Yao was here. We had already tried letting Francis "lead the team" That was a bust. It was time to move on. Thus, Rudy was let go. I feel that the management said to Rudy that they didn't want to put him in a situation where he would have to "ground Francis." Rudy was too *nice* to do that. Thus, he was let go. Rudy is a good coach that understood Hakeem. And they came together at the right time. Great? Nah. As far as your question. Rudy did the only thing he knew -> Let Francis do what he wanted. Similar to what he did with Hakeem and Drexler. The difference was that Hakeem and Drexler were veterans that *could* make smart decisions. So, when you think back to the Francis days, it was Rudy's only choice; other than grounding SF, like JVG did. But that didn't work either. Francis was a catch-22. It didn't matter how you played him. He wasn't a leader nor a follower. That means that it didn't matter if you let him go "isolation offense" or if you tried to get him to "play teamball." Neither option would move our team to the next level.
I was bringing up "entertaining" because that's what you want most > Run and gun offense (like the Suns?). But we can't have anything resembling that now. We don't have the players. Not yet. Bring Phil here and you still wont have the run-and-gun you are looking for. We still have Yao. And our offense will always be centered around the half-court. So, entertainment to me is smart basketball, with accurate passing, and high FG%. Defense that cause turnovers for easy baskets is also exciting. A PG that can create like Kidd is also entertaining. The only reason that NJ was "fast-break" was because of Kidd. Now he's not playing. Team is not so entertaining anymore. Players do matter. Yao to me is not really exciting, i.e. spectacular. He's more methodical. But I CAN appreciate his over-all skill. He will always bring a methodical tempo to this team. That's just the way he is. McGrady is more exciting player. But he's also skilled too. It's not just "flash" with him. Next... Charlie Ward is a PG that was released by the Spurs but played with JVG back in NY. So, it was a mutual agreement to get him here to play PG. At the time it was the only choice. Money was an issue. And Fisher was a possibility. But I'm not sure the management wanted to sign Fish to a big contract knowing that he's getting up in age. It's better that we put our money elsewhere later. Ward is temporary. As far as your comment about "NEVER GET the right player because of JVG." I don't buy that. The players will want to play with McGrady and Yao. That's why everyone is here. That duo. Other players will also want to come here if they aren't happy with their other team.
JVG has not had 9 games, he's had a career, in which he has amply shown he has one, and only one, way of approaching the game. It doesn't matter who he has on the court, or who they're playing, or what the score is, or any other consideration. He's got a hammer, every gosh darn thing looks like a nail. I hate coaching of any sport anywhere that is totally about D or completely about O. In the end, it takes both. The job of a coach is to make the most of whatever situation, whoever is on the court. This requires a combination of intelligence, knowledge, versatility, and even sometimes persuasiveness. I'll give JVG intelligence and knowledge, but he hasn't shown me the versatility or leadership it takes to bring a team to the finish line. Not just for 9 games, but at any point in his career. He is a good coach, no question. I don't hate him. But even pre-Rockets, I thought he was a one-note song who needed to grow his game. Yeah, the players have to do the playing, and we will all have our opinions about them as well. But it stills seems pretty apparent that as head coaches go, JVG is an oustanding defensive assistant.
It's not the players it's the system! Barkley and Kenny just praised Franchise saying in a half court offense he had to shorten his game up and that led to bad shots. They said now that he is running and gunning he is able to break down defenses and the "shots are better and the assists are better".
I don't think we should fire JVG that early. BUt I do agree JVG ball is extremely boring. No creative at all.
I don't know. man. I thought I could take it. But tonight's loss really made me sick. You can totally tell JVG was outcoached. It looks like I have to stay away from Rox for a few days. Man. I need a break!
I'm going overseas for a week. I wonder what the chances of us getting a new coach beforeI get back are?
honestly though, how much would it take for JVG to get fired? this reminds me of the mack brown getting fired idea. I highly doubt that van gundy's gonna get fired this season but what would it take? losing record by all-star break? all i know is that houston rockets basketball isn't entertaining anymore. it seems as if JVG himself just sucks the fun out of it and especially now with his product on display. Now i understand why noone goes to the games. i wonder, is there a stat for most shot clock violations or most shots taken with 1 shot left on the shot clock? We prolly would be number 1 by a landslide cause that's basically our offense in a nutshell
Les has gone on record as saying that this team should win and win immediately. I remember a quote from him saying that there wouldn't be any excuses this year, and he even specifically stated that there wasn't room for an excuse regarding a slow start cuz the players weren't used to each other.
I'm sure glad many of the JVG haters are not running this team. The Rockets are gonna do just fine. give it some time.
you guys are like people who has a bad case of prejudice. for one, most of the players last year are not with this team anymore.. we have a group of strangers playing with each other in this very new team. the only ones who were here last year were yao, mo, spoon, jj, boki, & padgett.. it will take some time til this team gels up and really plays like a real team. its really too early for you guys to be panicing and overreacting. it is hard to see a team with yao and tmac lose like this, and it hurts so bad coz alot of people already donned us the "championship-caliber" team. i think even before the season started that it will take some time til this team gets in the groove and i expected this sluggy start. its not all jvg's fault. in fact, i think no one's at fault in this since we have a whole bunch of strangers playin. it will take some time. all i can say is, we might be losing now, but at the end of this season or even after half of this season, we will be havin so many wins, we wont stand it... you guys can even quote me on this.. peace out..
