River, as Gray shows, you will always get yourself mixed up if you are avoiding the truth like SF is doing. I believe he is fragile. Whether or not he is defiant, it is simply my opinion. He does not have to agree with the coach but I would want him to make sense when he chooses to disagree and not disagree because he seemingly cannot handle the truth. Who knows, he may have defied Rudy all along and we did not know. If you look back you may even find suggestions of defiance from Barkley and Akeem.

Dallas radio stations are describing last night's win as one the Mavs made on "cruise control".

Steve Kerr had some decent comments-

" they really need to work on their break, the guards haven't converted on 3 easy ones" (commented after Steve and Cuttino blew up on an easy break away.

"I think you do need to attack the zone different than man to man" (commented after JVG was over heard telling them to stop being tentative and run the horns offense regardless of the defense.)

" is that the kind of shot you want to get?" (commented after Steve dribbled the clock down drove across the lane and made a circus shot while falling down)

Translation in my opinion- Our guards can't run the break and this breakdown in fundementals makes a big difference in a game

JVG was trying to get them to execute the offense but they were dribbling around being tentative

    Again poor offensive execution.

I don't know who is at fault but I know whatever we were suppose to be doing offensively the execution was sloppy.

way to go Francis!! just keep making excuses while you keep sucking it up every night. I love how he tries to pin the loss on the whole team here, when he was largely reponsible for their incompetencies last night b/c he couldn't run the offense if his life depended on it. Get a clue Francis . . .

(And this is coming from someone who isn't even a Steve-hater. I just think he has been pretty poor thus far in running the offense in the games i have seen, even the ones we have won.)

Some of you SF defenders are just like Stevie, just so defensive and stubborn when it comes to any kind of constructive criticism. Arguing with SF and his defenders is like arguing to a brick wall. IT JUST DOESN'T GET THROUGH TO YOU PEOPLE...

Our shots just didn't happen to fall against Dallas huh? Maybe its it because of our bad passing and shot selection? Maybe because of too much dribbling and always have to throw up wild shots with the shot clock running down? Maybe because you have wide open guys but refused to pass it to them and throw up a prayer? Maybe because we keep whining and complaining to the refs instead of doing something about it? People who can't look at themselves objectively and see their own faults cannot get better.

Well he could have said the ball was too hard and he could not hold on to it like he complained at half time.

I would think that Yao would get burned by the quicker PF in the league.

Maybe you missed this last season but the same thing happened to us in almost every game. We were close and competitive in the first halves of all four games last season only to be blown out.

I kinda agree with JVG and Steve on their opinions of what happened.

JVG IMO indirectly criticized Steve Francis and I think Francis got it and he did not like it. When a team's composure, patience steadiness is criticized is come down to its ball handlers - point guard. If a team is fragile it is usually the playmaker or point guard's fault or responsibility to stear the to safely in that 'stormy weather' by controlling and dictating play offensively to suite his/her team's maximum strenght. We are not a very patient team offensive atimes and our play calling is suspect. We could also not run decent man-advantage fastbreaks on national TV - that was embarrasing. We need better PG play in thos big games against teams that give us trouble perenially.

Also in agreement with Francis, we did take open shots but they did not fall - especially for CMob who has been our MVP so far. We needed some one else to step up - neither Yao nor Francis did. This is one game Motay could have really played big and may be Pike too. Our once potent bench was not as sharp. I fear that Boki will be confined to extended pine work when Adrian and Pike come back unless he catches fire between today and next week CONSISTENTLY.

Also it is obvious that the ONLY TEAM IN THE NBA we have matchup problems with is this Dallas Maverick team. Sometimes it seems to me that that team was built strictly to embarras us. No team can do what they do to us like they do it. No team scares me like they do. I don't really know what the problem is save for PG play and zone D but this one-sided matchup reminds me with the spanking that we got from Seattle Supersonics in the late 90s when we lost 13 strainght to them, and we were forced to sign Barkley out of frustration only become Utah's w**** after that. So far I think the score is not 5 straight loses to Dallas and counting. I hope it ends here. The onus is now on JVG to device a game plan to end it (methinks). But in all Dallas does not really worry me because we will not have to go through to get to a championship because IMO I believe they are not built to win it all but just give their fans in home game FREE CHALUPA.

IMO as well. Rudy never publicly challenged his players like this, so maybe Steve isn't used to it. He better get used to it because I don't think this is the last time it'll happen this season.

Its definitely not a good thing when Steve Francis has a different perspective than JVG about how the team played when JVG has made it clear to everyone that the motto for this team is -One Voice. One Vision. One Goal.

You know, I visit this site to entertain myself. I would like to come here and achieve a smile somehow, but bullisht like this just comes around and pisses me off. Nonstop after losses.

I get rather upset when the Rockets lose, but then I move on. There isn't a damn thing we can do about any of this crap y'all are discussing, so why not shut the hell up and move on to the Phoenix game? The Rockets freakin lost. Get over it. Don't blame one player or the other, either. The whole team lost. Now it's time for them to win. Or lose. Whatever it is, just shut up with all this bashing crap. If you spent this much time evaluating and analyzing your own performance in your own life, you'd be a better person; so get off of Francis/Ming/Mobley's dicks and find a way to grow your own.

Or maybe these dumbass people should stop posting crap like the last 24 hours has brought. I'll just do like every other respectible person and stay out of this forum until the Rockets win.

And no, I'm not Steve Francis. What the hell kind of a question was that? WTF part of my post might have possibly made you think thusly?

My comments were not bashing the team's or Steve's play in last night's game. Dallas is a better team, and we have matchup problems with them. So we lost. That's a fact of life.

What I did have problems with was Steve's refusal to recognize the problems that contributed to the loss. His refusal to see the truth is sometimes infuriating. If your coach says you have to perform better under pressure because you became frustrated and botched a bunch of plays and ran the offense ineffectively, then you don't go the media and say, "He doesn't know what he's talking about. We were fine. Nothing was wrong. Just missed a few shots, that's all." That's called denial, and Steve has a habit of doing that. It's also called dissention, and like Texas Stoke says, the Rockets are supposed to be operating under the motto of "One Voice, One Vision, One Goal". Clearly Steve is undermining this doctrine. It's One Voice, not Two Voices. Sure he has a right to disagree, but perhaps in private would be a better way to do it. And sure, it might not really matter so much now, but if it's not an isolated incident it becomes a habit that's detrimental to the team in the long run.

And why don't we just move on the Phoenix game? We are, and we're taking this with us. It's about attitude more than it is performance, and although performance will vary game to game, attitudes are harder to change. Steve Francis' attitude is one of denial and failure to take responsiblity, as well as disagreeing with his coach's assessment. The loss was not solely Steve's fault (JVG and other players were at fault too), but his failure to recognize why it happened will probably lead to a repeat in the future. If not against Phoenix, then against another team and perhaps down the line a game of more importance. That is the issue that needs to be addressed.

As for coming to this site to be entertained and smile...I would suggest buying a joke book. :)

No dout there is some dumbass reations here. But as far as I see, there is legitimate questioning, discussions also. Sf's mind set as to why we lost, and his differences in accessing things like this with his coach certainly is a legitimate question.

I don't know if you steve Francis or not, just asking. Actually I kind of guessed you are not him, but the exteme reaction against any criticism, refusion to here any criticism, etc mentality just make me wonder a bit.

If you prefer only to hear about praising tunes, obvious you know what to do, although I don't know what does that have to do with respectible. But labeling all negative posts as dumbass posts is equally wrong with those so called posts. Maybe you should ask JVG stop saying anything negative about Steve also a losses.

First off, those who know my posting pattern know that I am not a Steve basher.

That said, we all can agree that Francis is not a very smart basketball player. And let me add this. It's a well known fact that a really stupid person is incapable of knowing that he is stupid. (OK, Forrest Gump did. But that's why he's such a hero. :D )

The pattern I see in Francis is that he seldom admits that criticisms against him and the team are valid, especially criticism about their lack of intelligence in playing the game. This is true even when the criticism is from the coach.

Those who think that Francis is not defiant should only recall the incident when he defied the coach's order to call a timeout and proceeded to dribble up court and shoot a game winning shot. That shot made him look like a hero. But in reality, it shows his defiance.

Yes, players can have opinions different from the coach's. But you don't voice it out in public. As someone has pointed out. The coach is your boss. When you tell the public that you don't agree with your boss, that's defiance.

Moreover, I like to see for once Francis actually take the responsibility of losing. He said it's his team. He wants to be the leader. But leaders take responsibilities when things don't go well. I seldom (if ever) hear him say, "It's my bad that we lost. I didn't play a smart game. I didn't execute what the coach told me." When it comes to blame, he always points to "guys" doing this or not doing this.

OK, enough ranting. I really don't mind Francis developing slowly. And I understand that every player has weaknesses in his game. What insinuates me is his constant resistance to accept constructive criticism.

"Fragile' is for teams that are in the lower echelon of the NBA. I don't think we're fragile one bit"

Is that for a team that cannot make play off for 4 years?

just a query: did francis make those comments knowing what JVG said? could someone tell me? if he didn't then he wouldn't really be defying him... not intentionally anyway
