how does he expect players to put forth effort when their coach is openly admitting he is sucking at his job. Its hard to gain respect and listen to a coach who is seemingly down on himself for his crappy performace.

somone just asked if he ever compares himself to other coaches that are way more innovative then him on off and def. does he think it conflicts with the team he has now

    his answer

He does not see a conflict style wise or personality... he said he is not concerned with that.

That's a good one. Just blame the players for their poor effort, then say it's my fault. Nice move, coach!

Does it sound like he is just blaming himself because he feels that's what he should say and in reality, he thinks it's all the players' fault, but he just doesn't say it so that he looks better?

Ok here is what I got from the first segment, its not word for word but the best I could do....

Rich:Did you get any indication at practice today that these players will correct these problems?
Well one day is too short, we will have to see over time if we can get on the right track and keep them going for a long while.

Rich: Is the effort issue the most dissapointing about this team?
The effort issue is the most disappointing thing with out a doubt.
Im never disappointed in the record but the process that goes into the record, and the product that we put out there. Noone should be held more accountable than myself.
I thought Les and I did a really good job last year and I got the most out of that team and this year I haven’t. In particularly in the areas of effort. The fans shouldn’t have to worry about going to a game and see players put forth their full effort.

Rich: Do you think that the large salaries contribute to the lack of effort players put forth?
Ive known many athletes in the NBA and I don’t think the amount of salary has anything to do with it. I don’t think money changes who you are with most players. I think that it’s pride that causes these problems.

Caller: Do you see any similarity between your situation here and what Don Nelson went through in NY?
I was an assistant for Coach Nelson in NY. IN NY the standards were very high, but I think it was more of a media driven thing than a style driven thing. I don’t think it’s a style thing conflicting me with my players. Right now I think everyone should be critical of everything we do because we aren’t getting the job done.

    More to come...

In that same question about comparing coaches, the same guy asked about Yao's stamina and rebounding. He stated that Yao may lose stamina and rebounding position by going out and double teaming at the three point line and past. JVG said that he doesn't take that into consideration because Yao must help his teamates just as the point guards help him defensively.

that is how it seems to me because he keeps bringing up pride and effort of the players. Then out of noware says i should get the most blame. Then it is back to well my style and personality should not be a problem

well at the moment he is talking about karl malone and how he could still be effective. He did not say anything bad about karl malone or dismiss him. He did dismiss rodman when someone asked that though.

A caller called and asked about starting Deke and Yao and the same time to help with the rebounding and give Yao somenoe in the back to help if he gets beat. JVG said he would never do it because he doen't feel that Deke is as mobile as Yao.
