Jim Gray reminds me of Geraldo Riviera. The are both poor journalist that can't even manage sensationalism correctly. They don’t care if they find the truth in a story, all they care about is shocking the audience. Watch Jim Gray after a post-game celebration, while everyone is celebrating he’s trying to scurry up dirt. Jim Gray should just quit his job and join the National Enquirer where he belongs.

Great move by Van Gundy. It's not about winning the game it's about the higher goal of the NBA Championship. IMO, Van Gundy's move kept0 Steve and Yao a little more focused and gave the Faker$ and Phil Jackson much less psychological ammunition.

Jim Gray has way too much ego to be a great journalist. He often thinks he IS the story. I'm surprised there wasn't a story on ESPN about it. Watch, he'll be on the Dan Patrick show next week talking about it.

Good move by JVG. This is an inexperienced group of Rockets that just had a huge win and it was JVG's job to keep things in perspective........that is that for all their fantastic efforts last night, the Rockets are still down 2-1 needing to win 3 of 4 to win the series. Mission NOT accomplished.

Off thread topic, the Lakers are really sticking their necks out in this series. They have yet to play a good game this series and the Rockets need to cash in while they can. There really is something to be said for the point of view that there is only one ball on the court. The Lakers have had no identity whatsoever in this series and they are going away from their strengths and advantages for long periods of time. I mean it took the Rockets taking a double digit 4th quarter lead for the Lakers to say, "You know, we might want to use Shaq in this second half." Kobe has been off, Payton has been a non-factor on both ends of the court, Shaq has been ignored by his teammates for far too long stretches of time, their team defense has been pathetic by NBA playoff standards, and the player playing with the most heart for them has been Derek freakin' Fisher. I see a team failing to capitalize on several mismatches they have with the Rockets, a team that may be looking past the Rockets. Don't let up after a big emotionl win Rockets. The Lakers are beatable right now. And if the Rockets don't get them, I think the Spurs are going to dispose of them rather easily.

Looking up to Jim Grey doesn't say much about your journalistic stature. However, since you admit to being young and aspiring, find better role models. More important than just asking "tough" questions for your readers, remember that "fair and accurate" are much more important. Please know that you can be accurate all day long without being fair (see political columnists) and you can be fair all day long without being accurate (see unemployment lines). Asking the right questions sometimes means asking "tough" questions, and that's good as long as they are the "right" questions.

I've always thought good journalism is getting the best responses, not necessarily asking the tough questions. You can always ask tough questions and come off as an ass and get nothing in return. The best interviewers are the ones that ask the right questions that make people talk. Anybody can ask a question - a good interviewer can actually get something out of the interview.

I'm sorry to hear that he is your role model. Jim Grey is one of the lowest forms of life period. Journalism does not have to be about a lack of respect just to further your career.

Did anyone see the failed interview Gray tried to do with James Toney after the Toney Hollyfield fight? I thought Toney was going to beat Jim Gray's ass. I normally don't like thug behavior but in this case it was a real pleasure watching Jim Gray squirm like the very little man that he is.

I hate Jim Gray. I really can't stand the guy. I wish Tyson would have gone crazy on him or something.

That is Jim's problem, he has no idea when and where to ask tough questions. On the floor during a game or after a win or loss is not the time. The place where Jim does do well is one on one, sit down interviews. But I have read that he does kind of broadside his subjects even then.

Jim just comes off as the kind of guy that would ask a widow at a funeral how it feels now that their husband/wife is dead.

Jim Grey is a snivelling, gutless weasel. As for you, sir, I recommend an immediate 90 degree turn in your career path.

As a different kind of journalist, let me put in a good word for Jim Gray. There's a place in the media for people like him, people who have the stomach to ask the rude question no matter how much they're hated for it. We wouldn't all want to be those people. But every now and then, we really need them.

Of course, every now and then, we also need bloodthirsty killers.

I hate him too, but dont take it out on him if he didnt do it ESPN would have someone else in their to ask really dumb questions. I LOVED THAT JEFF DID WHAT HE DID!!! I think the best way to show the networks that people dont like this crap is to do just what JVG did, now we can only hope others will follow JVG. l
