That's right. This "I'm tired" excuse is not going to cut it anymore. He has to get those legs quicker and his upper body stronger.
Yeah I remember what happened, we actually used to be able to score points then. And no I am not saying let Steve run wild, I just believe he shouldnt ever have less shots per minute in a game than JJ,cat, yao and Mo. He doesnt have to be the #1 option , but he can be the #2 option especially in a big playoff game. And JVG hasnt done jack to help improve our team-- we added 2 wins from last year! Give Rudy this lineup with an improved yao, JJ , and the rest and I bet we have the same record or better, and we wouldnt look so horrible on offense in the playoffs. And no JVG hasnt added any aspects to his game -- look at his assists numbers they are exactly the same as last year. Fact of the matter is this, JVG isnt getting the best out of his players and thats a fact. Not just Steve, but Cuttino's numbers are also down. We were a good defensive team last year, this year JVG has marginally improved our D with a great cost to our offense. If you think getting rid of Steve is the problem you are clearly mistaken.
DavidS, I don't think we want a green light on Steve. If that happened, Yao would be fazed out and we would return to the days of Rudyball. We understand that. Still, the leash on Steve is tighter than spandex on Pig Miller's ass. Give him a little leeway. More like a yellowlight. Yao cannot carry this team on his own yet. When he starts sucking wind (which is usually 5 minutes into the game) give Steve a bigger role in the offense.
No Coach will be able to realy contol and coach the Rockets till Francis is gone. Rudy T is to blame he gave the ball to Francis and Francis ran the Team for Four Years. He will never relinquish complete control to a coach, its just his habit.
I feel that he has to learn, before he gets. He has to show that he can operate within this system before he gets more leeway. Because with too much leeway, he hurts the team. Sure, there's a happy-medium. But all great PGs can function within any system efficiently. He can't operate in any system consistently. It's like a catch-22. Free-style makes him better, but his team worse. Structured, he hurts his team less, but hurts his stats more. And being in the middle wouldn't help that much either. In the end, he still has to show that he's learning. I mean, think about the big picture. Lets say that we did what you suggested given the current "Francis." Lets say that he helps up squeak out some wins here or there. Does it really change the team in the long run? We'd still be in the same place. Decent. But never go anywhere. We're talking minute improvements. But nothing substantial.
I can't agree with this. Jason Kidd is considered a great PG, no? He was a good PG before at Dallas and Phoenix, but it wasn't until he found the right system in NJ that he really started fluorishing. His stats stayed the same, but he became the floor general in NJ and took that team, made it his. He found a system that worked for him. He didn't have to increase production, but everyone saw him as an upper tier guard soon after that. He has shown that he has learned. It may be a little slower than you may like, but he has been steadily adjusting to the system. Besides, everyone points to the stats as evidence that he is a bad player. Hell, he's sacrificing his stats for the good of the team. His A:TO ratio is high, yeah, but he's adjusting slowly. From being the 1st option on a team to the 4th, even 5th would be tough for anyone, and he's making the transition. ditto what summer song giver said.
It doesn't matter. It's futile. Getting a win here or there, means nothing if we just keep withering and dying in the end. Want proof? Think about this team playing the Kings or Spurs. We just happen to match up "best" with the Lakers. And that "best" isn't that good. And we'll always be that way unless we make some changes.
I bet he would if Rudy came back. I'm not a JVG hater, I'm also not a JVG fan. I don't like the way he plays basketball, I don't think it fits this team, and its a fact that its not fit for the West. JVG or Francis: Which should go? Well, JVG hasn't given us a reason (except D) why he should stay, SF hasn't shown us why he should stay (wins). But a Yao and Steve will attract players to come play in Houston. But JVG alone, could make a FA say "hell no." No one wants to play JVG basketball, no one wants to watch JVG basketball. I would if it got wins, but we barely improved, our record vs. the West is not even laughable. There are posts that we should get T-Mac or other big FAs. But all a star has to do is look at Steve's numbers and say "forget it." All the "Stars" got their fame by scoring and scoring it in "highlight" fasion. Well the one thing they know about JVG is that all of that would end.
So you are saying that SF will learn just like Kidd? Really? Kidd make plays. He make accurate passes. He makes his teammates better. I don't think that you understand that concept the way it applies to a PG. I think you look at it from a shooting or scoring perspective. This is ironic coming from a person that knows about tierre_brown. I loved his game. He was a soild PG. Too bad he didn't have the athletic ability that SF has.
JVG must go, I am tire of seeing 7'6 guy running as crazy to set a pick for SF or CM, even when Shaq is out. JVG is a r****d.
it shouldn't really be this close of a vote, Francis + 4 years = nothing JVG + 1 year = playoffs obviously, its a team sport and the coach doesn't suit up yada yada yoda, but Stevie may just be playing us... cause he ain't playing the game too well
JVG has three more years left on his contract. Steve can be traded at whatever time (after July 1). I don't know when his BYC status changes; maybe the same time? JVG won't go. As much as I hated listening to Sean Elliott at all our nationally-televised games this year, I will go out of my way and say this: he was right about "the Rockets don't know how to win." If our team had the mental toughness we need, we would have closed out at least 7 more games this year. We would have been at 50 wins. It did prove that any coach is doomed to failure if his star player is so hardheaded. Steve ignored Rudy and now is all scrambled-nerves trying to adjust; sometimes Steve plays very well and sometimes not. It's a lose-lose. But JVG is the coach, we do need discipline on the team, and, for better or worse, Steve will be this summer's sacrificial lamb. P.S. If we wind up with Elton Brand or Ray Allen.....no! No! We'll just wait and see what happens.
You just don't get it, Steve is the one that's holding this team down from the best it could be. So what he had a triple double, but the Rockets still lost. With Steve at the helm the Rockets are playing basketball the hard way instead of the smart and intelligent way. Which is one of the reasons why this team will be another making of the Minnesota Timberwolves.
JVG + 1 year + weak Western conference six-eight = playoffs. 43 wins? 45 wins? The Rockets have not improved from their two most recent healthy seasons, one of those without Yao Ming. JVG is a speed bump.
JVG=2 more wins, worst record vs. own conference in the NBA. Yes, Francis hasn't gotten us to the playoffs, but he couldn't do it all by himself, we literally had no team until Yao came along. I know its too late and theres nothing I can do about it, but how can they only give Rudy 1 year with Yao!!
Please tell me what JVG is supposed to do when one of his main players is so incompetent at the PG postion? What? Give him the ball more? Please...I mean, do you understand the catch-22 that JVG is in?
