    this is obviously awesome.....

to those of you complaining about jvg being mean, read the second part of the quote...."i like billy a lot more than they like me"....he's just moacking the media sensationalism/ making a point to billy that going to the media was the wrong choice with his issues. JVG obviously beleives that billy COUILD be good, but just that he isnt there yet( and id have to agree having watched bill play so far this year...) this is just an attempt to challenge one of his players, something that coaches like the zenmaster and Pound for Pound do ALL THE TIME to their players...seriously, not a big deal....and definately funny :p

he would be an idiot to have said it and meant it. but that doesn't soften the severity of the edge the comment had. it's like me talking about someone's mother. i could be playing, but not too many people could just laugh about it.

    Pretty funny stuff.

I won't read between the lines but I hope Tsakaladis is good enough to get some backup minutes as CD and Morey are hoping. JVG reserves the end of the bench for Euros (see also DNP - Coach's Decision).

That Van Gundy, what a kidder. Doesn't like an unhappy player blabbing to the media, so he thinks up a joke at the player's expense and tells it to the media. Public b****ing about public b****ing. Nice teaching, Coach!

Have you heard the one about the coach who left guys to rot on the bench, made fun of them, and then had a couple of injuries in the runup to the playoffs?

i agree. when JVG and bonzi had their bickering, at least it was somewhat behind the door...i know he's trying to be funny, but it was a bit personal. but then again, he's the coach...i mean none of us had bosses that pissed us off, right? ;)

If Vspan can take it then he doesn't have the mentality to be in the NBA. JVG has no time to baby sit his players.

Good sense of humor, and unlike others here I think it helps diffuse the situation although I don't think JVG really cares because he doesn't see the 'situation' as a 'situation'.

Remember, we all look at this from the outside, JVG from the inside. Everyone has a tendency to think that what is reported in the press and the image that it generates is what's 'real', but it's the interpersonal relationships and dynamics that are real. JVG's with these players for hours most every day. It's not like this quote was in a void. The quote is brilliant... part humor, part media mocking, part teasing Billy.

JVG coaches a professional team of adult men. I doubt that he feels he needs to treat them like toddlers, nor is it his job to. If a player feels a certain way then he must do what he sees fit to.

I am with you.....hopefully he and Billy have a good relationship, but this is my biggest issue with JVG. Those comments are funny in a locker room setting but not in print.

Honestly, I do not like those words, kind of mean.
Indeed JVG talked more than those words, mostly about the trade is not his choice, managers did that. JVG likes Scott very much, he said Scott's son is in one school in Huston, the trade will make things......

That's coaching at it's finest. What an awesomely subtle way to throw down the gauntlet for VSpan. Kudos JVG.

^ I agree with DD and Will. Obviously JVG and V-Span aren't on the best of terms due to his lack of playing time and on top of that JVG is bringing in a new player who hasn't been in on the Rox locker room and practice banter all year. While this might be JVG and V-Span joking they've been doing all year Tsakalidis might not read it as such.

Pro-athletes IMO have too thin skins and many of them are prima-donnas. I don't know if V-Span or Tsakalidis are like that but its not good for team chemistry to publicly mock your players as coach when the relationship is already rocky.

Everyone thinks JVG comes from the Riley school of coaching when in reality he is from the Parcells schools of coaching. Parcells has done things alot worse and his guys tend to respond. Parcells also knows which guys to lay off of also like LT.

JVG is not my favorite coach but I don't have that much of a problem with this because Vspan hasn't proven crap on the floor. He had one good game in the worlds and thinks deserves floor time. When he is out there he stinks.

Remember Cassells first year. I didn't get any time during the beginning of season but when he did get floor time, he showed you that he was the man which was why he got to finish games towards the end of the season.

It is different with Bonzi. Bonzi has shown over his career than he can dominate in stretches over the best in the league during the playoffs. That buys you a little more slack.

    lol...JVG made my morning

Some of you are like little kids.....love playing with the NEW toy, but in this case the new "toy" is too complex. Billy is not ready and the Rockets can't afford to let him learn on the job. He needs to learn on his time and bring something to the table beside your occasional turnover
