I don't understand. The quote you posted hasn't been proven wrong yet. Rudy T won championships for houston. JVG has yet to win one round of the playoffs.

I can't believe you posted that OLd Man Rock! All the JVG lovers are patting each other backs and loving the Rockets record right now and that's great because the team is winning.

Does JVG get a contract extension if we get bounced in the 1st round again? I doubt it even if we win 50+ games. If Yao is back and T-mac is on the court this team might have to reach the WCF to get JVG that contract extension. He hasn't won a thing with the Rockets yet and I hope he does this year because I'd like to win a playoff series for once. After all it's only been a decade since the Rockets got out of the 1st round.

Oh, so I guess you'd have no problem with me if I proclaimed to the board that "LUFFY1 IS THE WORST POSTER IN THE HISTORY OF CLUTCHFANS." I mean, after all, it hasn't been proven wrong yet, right? I'll remember that for future reference.

Why is it that the people who either 1) hate JVG or; 2) think Vspan is the 2nd coming of Pistol Pete; believe that harm was actually done. There is nothing even remotely serious about that statement.

I'm sure if Rafer got benched and Hot Sauce was signed and JVG said "It will give someone for Rafer to b**** to" that same group would have an orgasm.

GLOBAL: Vassilis Spanoulis, From Star To Rookie
    By Nikola Olic
    for hoops world
    Feb 12, 2007, 01:26

"Its good to have a nickname" is the last thing Vassilis Spanoulis said before boarding the bus and leaving the American Airlines Center in Dallas. Three and a half months into his NBA career, Greek guard has not yet played against all NBA teams, but so far its the Mavericks that bring out the best in him. In very limited minutes, Spanoulis' shooting percentage and free throw attempts against the best team in the league are impressive. Houston Rockets fans chanting T-Mac from section 312 now have a new nickname with a similar ring to it: V-Span. Having a nickname is a good start -- now all he wants is more minutes.

V-Span is a new nickname for an old player, borrowing the word from the 'Old' continent of Europe where Vassilis is a household name. Nicknames travel slower than stat sheets, so his legions of Greek fans might not even recognize it, still faithfully associating him with Kill Bill, the nickname he solidified at world championships this summer in Japan. Team USA remembers his full name well, thanks to 22 points worth of arena PA announcements when he lead the Greek national team in eliminating them in the semi-finals.

In addition to 85 international players already in the NBA, about 30 belong to various NBA teams on paper yet are playing elsewhere. Established international players, like Spanoulis, think twice about coming to the NBA because the Star-to-Rookie transition has overwhelmed many good players before. Agents and scouts can not guarantee playing time, but they can help set expectations. Since being drafted in the second round of the 2004 draft, V-Span had the NBA on his mind and the world championships in his site. After a dominant performance in Japan, discussions with Houston skyrocketed, as did his expectations.

"I didn't expect not to play, I expected to have minutes. This is life, this is what I wanted. I made this step in my life and my career, I changed my lifestyle, I came to the other side of the world to help this team. They told me they needed me in the past. But I can't look at the past, I have to look into the future and work hard. I have no choice. Once the season is over, then I can decide what is better for me, for my career and for my life."

The truth is that Spanoulis has choices. He was with Greek basketball power Panathinaikos for just a year before leaving for the NBA yet he was already their best offensive option through the Euroleague contest, averaging more than 15 points per game. Spanoulis is proud of how Greek basketball has evolved, including contract terms that are no longer far behind those in the NBA. "Thank God", he says often while describing the support he has back in Greece, and then calmly continues.

"You have to be very strong mentally, don't quit. I am not used to this situation. I was in a very good situation in Europe. I had success when I played in Greece and with the national team. This is very hard for me now, its real tough. If the situation is good or bad, you have to learn something. First year is very tough, you never know when you will play. You have to practice hard and stay conditioned because you never know when you will be called up."

In the Dallas game, it was six minutes into the fourth quarter that Spanoulis was called up. As he waited to enter the game, the jumbotron was showing statistics that were not flattering to his team, flashing a 20 point Dallas advantage. Houston fans in section 312 were done cheering for the night, but fans in Houston and in Greece are not. His new nickname now gets as much Internet traffic as the old one from Europe.

Sophia Gialleli from the Greek Basketball Federation offers an explanation. "Just keep in mind that the fans in [his old team] Panathinaikos are still crazy about him", and continues with her own question. "But how come a rookie from Greece attracts so much attention among Rockets' fans?". Spanoulis recognizes his old acquaintance from Greece and answers with a smile.

"Fans give me power and courage to keep going and keep working hard. They must have seen me in the world championships because they didn't have many opportunities with the Rockets. I am very thankful to them because it is very important for a player to have support from people around him. When ever coach gives me the opportunity to play, I hope to make my fans happy."

Shortly after signing Spanoulis to a 3-year, $5 million contract, Houston Rockets general manager Carroll Dawson praised his skills and offered a glimpse into how his career might start:

"He wants to be a great player. Everybody is going to like this young man because he is a very hard-nosed player. It’s a big adjustment to come to the NBA from Europe, but he is a hard worker."

With adequate minutes on the floor, V-Span has the potential to go further than any other Greek basketball player before him.

I Love his sense of humor and witty philosophy on "Energy" :)
I would pay him 8 million dollars to pair him next to Bill in the booth, and hire Mario elie as head coach for an average salary, all problems would be solved.

Exactly. It served no purpose but to take a stab at a rookie and a newcomer. Joking or not it was pointless.

Does anyone else get the idea that JVG played no part on this trade.

I think JVG was fairly open that he does not make calls on personnel- this looks like a shot across the bow of Daryl Morey, but it was done clumsily. I understand V Span- but it looks like Jake is pretty much put in the same category!

My instinct is Les will step in at some point in time.

JVG and Billy should found a PC game company together and do what they are good at, make this game:

    b****craft

or found a movie company to produce a sequel of Dumb and Dumber:

    b**** and b****ier
