Heard only the later part of the show. I heard him complement Juwan and how great he has been for this team since post ASG. He said as a coach, he has always believed in coaching to your strength i.e. the kind of players you have. In New York, he coached the slow down game and low possession game because he had players that were suited for that (i.e. their strength) - Spree, Houston, Grand Mama, Patrick, etc.. Last year, he tried to establish Yao down low and run things through him more (I guess because of Yao's efficiency). This year, he wanted a more balanced team as the team is built towards that - strong rebounding, defense and inside/outside offense. Juwan herein was a big part of that plan and he brought so many intangibles. But now the team must play to his strength without Juwan he hinted. That is about all I got (+ some complements of big Zs 'underrated game', Celtics resurgence, Denver's rise and the solidness of San Antonio even without Duncan and/or Manuel).
Show is over. wrap up: caller asked a dumb question about Vin Baker. JVG said he hasn't had enough time to show familiarity with a system (and, my comment is: now is not a good time to break someone in). Caller asked a dumb question about playing Deke and Yao together (had been previously answered) caller asked JVG's opinion on Ilgauskas. JVG spoke highly of him - said he was VERY underrated said that last year, we played a "pound the ball into Yao" game and this year, we are trying for a much more balanced game plan. said that he was disappointed that the Rockets didn't show up to the Celtics game said that he was more concerned about the Rockets being ready for New Orleans than San Antonio. He KNOWS they'll be ready for SA, but didn't want them to be complacent for NO -- droxford
David Stern. He will be ready for that game because he paid those refs a little extra to make sure yao fouls out to level the playing field.
