Pretty much rehashing what we already know... it was Les' desire to be more uptempo, while Morey wanted JVG to stay.
He is such a good interview and seems so much more relaxed outside of coaching. I love him as a color commentator.... Kudos to the thread starter for the heads up. DD
Interesting he said he knew for a long time that Alexander wanted to make a change, almost like he knew before the season even started. Said SVG is a great coach and would love to work with him I missed the beginning of it. Said Daryl Morey believed in his abilities as a coach, but Les didn't
Yupp he even studdered for a second & made it pretty clear to me he thinks the Rox made the wrong decision for letting him go but he supports Adelman.
So the GM...Morey...wanted him to stay. But Les wanted him gone...so he's gone. You pay basketball minds to make basketball decisions
If you missed it, it should be available to download (free) soon http://espnradio.espn.go.com/espnradio/podcast/index
yeah JVG said Aldeman is a great coach and an even better person, none of that was directed at Aldeman
Chances are... this is the side of him the players see when they're in practice/preparing for games (ie - the majority of the time). This is also why every single player we get has the same reaction, "he's a lot different than what I thought he was... he's completely different with us... etc." And Morey isn't even techincally a "basketball mind". He was hired because Les was intrigued at his statistical models. If we're not going to use his models in order to get the coach/players that could maxmize that... why the hell did Les even hire him? He could have easily gotten an established GM who had experience in building a team. Perhaps he wanted another yes-man? Well, he got it... Morey has zero leverage to get what he wants... he knows he's lucky to be an NBA GM.
I don't know if Les changed his mind over the last 4 years or what... but if he had wanted a fast paced team and STILL hired Van Gundy 4 years ago, I wonder what he was thinking.
well he thought good coaches would adapt. look at how popovich has adapted to this new style of play yet still emphasized good defense. look at how flip still put in his offensive style onto the pistons yet maintained their good D. JVG, well, it's his way or the high way.
