Can't stand VanGundy's pride--when losing games last year without Yao and Tmac...he would say they had plenty of talent on the court and lost b/c of shooting/rebounding, or lack thereof. BS, you lost b/c you had junior high players/senior league players on the team.

I would love for him to say--we had too many injuries and could not compete.

And try and be upbeat for God sakes---he is so doomsday.

I'm a little confused. How do you say (and I quote) "we had too many injuries and could not compete" and sound upbeat about it?

Maybe a smiley will help :)

Yeah, that's a nice way to motivate people:

Yeah, our players are ****, I think we will never win another game with those players

    From Clutch's media day report...
    http://www.clutchfans.net/news/1363/van_gundy_sees_roster_improvement/

    JVG said,

"There are preventable and unpreventable injuries. We felt like last year that those injuries were unpreventable. So we put a lot of thought in to how we can practice effectively but also as injury-free as possible."

Could it be?!?!?! Has the stubborn JVG finally figured out that his intense practices actually puts his players in jepordy health wise??

Very interesting. Why change if all the injuries were unpreventable?

I did like the part: "As for the Rockets' offense this year, Van Gundy still called McGrady the team's "#1 option in the halfcourt", but that "Yao deep in the paint is the best offense you can have in the NBA, as far as I'm concerned". Especially the Yao deep in the paint part. Hopefully Yao has gotten even stronger so he can be a bully deep in the paint.

How about something like, "The guys on the court played their hearts out but we just don't have the guns to compete." If that's not the truth, If the guys on the floor are slacking then say something like, "WHether we win or lose I expect the guys to give it their all regardless of who is injured and that didn't happen tonight." Either one of those would be a better response. Whatever he says just speak the truth. But don't say with a straight face that the starting lineup of Alston, Wesley, Mutombo, Head and Howard against the Mavericks is plenty of talent. That's just stupid.

And I know he is not stupid. But he did make that statement after losing by almost 30 points to the MAvericks with that starting lineup! I know where it comes from. In the very beginning he stated that every team in the NBA is talented enough to win and the main difference is the coaching. And I honestly think he believes if his players would only do exactly what he says they would win every game. And IMO that's a kind of stubborn ignorance. And while I have never been one who believes it is all about the talent. I do believe it is a big part about the talent. Stars win championships but those stars have to be surrounded by a good supporting cast and a coach who motivates them and molds them into a team. You will never take a team like the Knicks and make them champions regardless of the coach. And on the other side the Heat will not be a lottery team without Riley.

All that being said I probably am as accepting of JVG as our coach as I have ever been. He seems to be somewhat out of the player decision making which I thought he was terrible at and he is changing his negativity a bit. Add that to the fact that TMac likes him and Yao respects him and he is probably not going anywhere if the Rockets win this year and I am not rooting for the Rockets to lose. So I guess I can say go JVG and the Rockets. And if I say it enough maybe that queasy upset feeling will eventually leave my stomach.

    OMR,

in your honest opinion, why do you think so many of JVG's former players have such adulation for him? why the undying loyalty and praise?

Honestly I think most of them are lying. They don't want to burn any bridges. They are smart enough to know their are only so many job opportunities in this league and bad mouthing 1 coach can wipe out a whole bunch of those opportunities. The real surprise is why anyone would dare say anything bad about any coach. But yet some have. And the unofficial whispers in the dark that everyone around the league seems to know but noone will dare admit is that JVG is a difficult coach to play for. But he is our coach so I say Yeah JVG go Rockets!!! Ooops I think I am going to be sick... Bye.

You are full of it. Players lying? Why? There is no reason to lie about it. He took one of the worst rosters in the playoffs to the finals when he was in New York. He took the same roster than one of the best coaches around (Rudy T) couldn't get into the playoffs and put them in the playoffs without much change to the roster. JVG gets respect because he deserves it and he's earned it. Tell me this Old Man Rock, do you pay any loyalty to people who lie to you?

Whoa now. I didn't mean for you to read my post like that. You are still full of it though. The players aren't lying. Where do you get info like that? That's why I said you're full of it. You made that up. You called players liars and you made that up out of thin air.

Leave it to old sourpuss to knock his starting PG on the first day of training camp. Wouldn't it have been nicer to say that the reason we got him was that Rafer is a pass first PG and that he didn't have enough guys to pass it to last season.

He asked me what I thought stupid ass and I thought they were lying. If you prefer they were saying the politically correct thing. This is my opinion. And you are free to have yours but don't be stupid and call me full of **** again when I am not even talking to you.

This is really funny. Why would so many NBA players lie just to praise a coach? I have repeatedly heard Yao and T-Mac praise JVG in the press. Do you think NBA superstars have to lie to keep their jobs safe on the team?
