Yeah, he truly is. No sour grapes with him whatsoever. I wish he could be hired on as a defensive coach. (Not sure he would want that, though).
He's too good for espn. They want him to expand like Jalen Rose and start analyzing other sports, but he loves coaching too much.
Can we hire him as our assistant coach? Oh god I would be screaming like a little girl if we can have an Adelman + JVG combo.
When JVG took over from Rudy (Mr Mean, not really) he was very respectful to Rudy. I appreciated that. When Adelman took over from JVG he was very respectful to JVG. I appreciated that. They are all members of the same fraternity, all class people.
JVG has everything to do with this streak, if the players didn't "still have him in their ears", the defense would not be nearly as good as it is. I keep hoping i'll run into him in houston. oh and he is among the best commentators present day.
Didn't Adelman refuse to talk to the rockets until he got the OK from JVG? I remember reading about that around the time he got hired. That probably made it a lot easier for JVG to praise him.
Wow, what a great interview. And long. And he went into all sorts of different topics. And especially, he defended the Rockets hard!
It goes both ways between JVG and Adelman. Adelman is quoted as saying that when he came to Houston, he was intent on implementing his system. But after seeing how the roster was and how the guys played in his previous system, he decided to scratch the change and just go with what works adding in a few offensive tweaks. I know alot don't like JVG. But if you are true and honest to yourself, this team has his fingerprints all over it. That defense they are playing is just intense. Offending the true haters, this team looks alot like the Riley teams of the mid-90's when JVG was assisting Riley. It all about hustle, hustle, hustle, defense, defense, defense, in your face and willing you to give up. I wish JVG was still here. But you can see now that some minor offensive tweaking was needed. And since JVG doesn't think with that side of the brain, I am glad he put a foot into these players ass to get them to play the defense they are playing now. And Adelman is just the cherry on top. I said that hiring Adelman is a lateral move for the Rockets. I still think so. That is why the Rockets need to add JVG to the defense and let Adelman run the offense! Two laterals = championship!
JVG really should have his own talk show on ESPN. He is certainly sharp enough to be able to carry a 30 minute broadcast 4 times a week. Give him the right sidekick or someone who shows up regularly (maybe an ex jock from football or baseball) and ESPN will have sports entertainment gold. The guy is just too smart, too funny and too humble for ESPN not to convince him to commit to a larger role within the network. At least send him to TNT and replace Kenny Smith with JVG.
man just listening to JVG gives me chills. He is right, what the Rockets are doing is just inspirational..
I'm not sure, but there was a mention in a recent Sporting News article that JVG was working out at a gym in Houston when he found out about Yao's injury. http://www.sportingnews.com/yourturn/viewtopic.php?t=374974
He was working out with Anthony Falsone, yao's trainer at his gym somewhere in Houston. Another article in the New York Times said that. I'm sure someone can find it.
