The number of times you've complained about him winning that Denver game dwarf anything I've ever come up with. I barely even posted during his tenure. My position has always been more that coaches don't make that much of a difference in the NBA.

Oh please! You had already made up your mind before he was even hired that you couldn't get behind anyone succeeding Rudy, unless it was Mike Dunleavy. I distinctly recall a conversation where you said you just couldn't support a coach unless they were a former Rocket. And then there's the countless, countless times you dismissed JVG's accomplishments with this team citing various arguments from their record in Rudy's last year to the fact that you felt that the statement that we had an untalented roster was erroneous. To merely say that you disliked JVG would in itself be the greatest understatement in the history of this BBS.

i complained about the denver game and i am still pissed about that. but i don't doubt his merits as a coach nor do i diminish what he achieved with us with what he had. i thought jeff was brilliant and made the most of some bad situations. that he didn't have managerial foresight, which was reflective in his decision to win the denver game, is not indicative of his merits as a coach and what he accomplished during his tenure with us.

by the way, don't take my tone personally. you know i love you. you know that.

Yay journalism, more unattributed sources! Way to beef up that fading credibility.

Wow, looks like you've been wanting to get that out for a while. :)

Look, I don't go out of my way to bash Van Gundy. I would think to qualify as a Gundy "hater", I would need to at least meet that threshold. I'm only going off my recollection, but the only time I get into discussions about the guy is when people used to bash Rudy and now Adelman while propping up Van Gundy. If not to defend Rudy and Adelman, I don't have much reason to go after him. And it's really more of a devil's advocate thing, nothing rooted in personal dislike.

Nice memory on the Dunleavy stuff, I'm impressed. I think I even supported a John Lucas hiring, if memory serves. But that only corroborates what I said earlier, that I don't think coaching makes that much of a difference in the NBA (there was a good article posted a while back that supports that theory, I think by HayesFan). Also it's nothing personal against Van Gundy - I would have been forced to take swipes at Larry Brown (I do that anyway, ha) or Carlisle, or whomever would have been hired, because I'm sure the same situations would have arisen here on these forums.

Btw cab, you really need to stop saying things like "greatest _____ in the history of the bbs", or "greatest ______ in Rocket history" - it's a bad habit that I've noticed you've developed. ;)
