Seriously, right now the only way JVG would stop commentating is if he coaches a championship caliber team, given his family situation.
somebody in the league seriously needs to give Thibodeau a head coaching job I mean ****ing Doug ****tard Collins will land another job before Thibodeau does
Paul Westphal is alive!?? Has there ever been a coach with a higher career winning percentage that just faded into Bolivian (heh) moreso than Westphal?
Based on what? They were headed to the Lottery and fired Mo Cheeks because he wanted to slow the game down. And pound it into Brand in the small times Brand wasn't injured. After Cheeks's departure, the Sixers literally and figuratively went on a run. Their success is uptempo and free-wheeling. Van Gundy or Thibadeau, either one, would kill whatever transition game the Sixers have established. Which is why I'm hoping one or both of them is hired.
If Thibodeau's coaching is the same as when he coached SL for the Rockets... the players would tune out by January.
The idea that JVG wouldn't allow the Sixers to run is bogus. He begged the Rockets players to run when he was here.
He also had the Knicks running like crazy when he was leading an AVERAGE team to NBA Finals and multiple ECF's.
He always said that, but I don't think he put anything in place to support or encourage a running game. I think he'll probably avoid the job so he doesn't undecut Thib trying to get a head coaching gig.
He would add discipline to the team, for sure, but I think he's smart enough to understand what their strengths are. I think he'll continue to use Thadeus Young at the 4, and put Elton Brand at the 5. He'll go small. And with a competent, up-tempo PG like Andre Miller running things, he'll encourage them to run out in transition and look for easy scores. I think they have to personnel to be a very good defensive team under the right coach, and that's where I think JVG would make the biggest difference.
1) His teams were never athletic here. He didn't get to coach Landry, Wafer, Artest, Brooks heck not even Scola! He had Juwan, Wesley, etc. 2) He stood on the sidelines screaming at his players to run down the court when they got the ball. Aside from Rafer, they just wouldn't do it. 3) Tracy McGrady hated running down the court. He was their star player. Even with Rick, Tracy would not run and you'd see Rick pleading with the team to run more.
exactly, remember the Francis days with him frantically gesturing him/Moochie etc to get the ball up? JVG's greatest success came in 1999 coaching a Ewing-less Knicks team that was all about transition scoring.
It is futile to argue with the JVG haters. No matter how much evidence you provide, to them he will always be a coach that can't coach offense, refuses to have any semblance of a transition game, and will only play young players/rookies if forced to by injuries.
Was about to mention the same thing. His unwillingness to play young guys is a huge problem. Brooks and Landry would have never developed under Van Gundy.
I don't see much, if any evidence being provided. I'm not a "JVG hater" - but I get annoyed with all the posters here who make him out to be a guy who worked miracles here. It's a joke. Don Chaney took a team that actually WAS undermanned to 52 wins and also lost in the first round, and no one here worships him. He didn't have two legit all-stars who were healthy the entire season, not even close. JVG waving his arms doesn't prove he wanted a running team, btw. It's just as likely he wanted the team to get into their offense earlier. There's also plenty of revisionist history going on about the '99 Knicks being a 'fastbreak' team.
Considering that you don't seem to be able to recall the year 2007 (Yao Ming broken bone, Tracy McGrady, in and out with various ailments)....I'm going to go ahead and (correctly) assume that your recollection of the year 1999 is even more inaccurate...which it is. You can't get rudy's job back, sorry brah. And LMFAO at you being a JVG hater when SIX YEARS LATER you can't get over his hiring as head coach. Move on man.
