How could he possibly bring in Novac or V.Span? After all they both have such little experience at playing the NBA Game. They are not game ready players, due to coaching decissions. Why would JVG develop such unworthy talent? Novac is only possibly the best talent at three point shooting in the NBA and V Span is only the Greek Point Guard that scored 22 points to oust the USA in the World Championships.
novac would've been great defense on josh smith. he didn't have enough highlight reels I guess for your liking.
Of course he is. Just like Kelvin Cato was the best shot blocker in the NBA. The preseason is awesome. I'd rather have message board poster accountability than JVG accountability.
It is NOT about developing the bench....it is about sending a message to the starters and rotation players. And, if the bench does play well, it is all the better for the team. DD
I guess you will have to become a contributing member to make that request then, huh Shanna? ZING !!!! DD
Yet another thread where DaDa and his team of Lucas, VSpan, Snyder, Novak, and Big Jake would outplay JVG and his team of the rotation players.
Wes, Don't lose sight of the message because you disagree with previous threads, it is NOT about the bench....it is about making the rotation players aware that more is expected of them, and if they aren't going to play hard, they are going to sit. Agree or not? DD
As bad as the Rockets played I think the Hawks played a great game for themselves. They made their shots (not just wide open ones, Joe Johnson was nailing jumpers in peoples faces) and they playede prett decent defense. The Rockets did come out with low energy but the game was always within striking distance the ENTIRE game. How is JVG suppossed to just "Yank" players out and break up the rotation for the game? Never see Pop do that.
Pop does it all the time....in the first quarter, and 3rd quarter mostly...and it works a lot of times......at least his rotation players get the message. Heck, he did it against the Rockets in Houston when they came back and won. JVG is always telling people - no excuses - play hard - etc..etc..etc....well, he needs to hold all players to that same motto. Because even though it is a pretty good season.....it will end in the first round more than likely if the Rockets don't get Home court advantage. And then a good season becomes an underacheiving season.....the Rockets record of 34-20 is pretty darned good, but if this team played with more fire...ala the Mavericks.....they would be a solid 3 seed right now. JVG is not consistent he lets players coast......it is his fault, if the players are not playing with fire, he needs to yank them out and let them sit and explain WHY they are sitting then put them back in.... Got to light that fire some way. DD
Not really. If you can make a (singular) sub for energy, you do that. But I think you always put out the team that has the best chance to win. This is a really good team. Even when they have an off-night, they've earned the kind of respect that they'll pull it together. Sometimes they don't. I've never been around professional coaches, but I would imagine that high-level pros (that consistently act professionally) don't respond really well to "sending messages". That works for the high school star that thinks he's above the team. That's not a great response for a group of professionals who don't have any general problems.
My point is that the Rockets were always hanging around the 6-8 point mark. The game was in their reach the entire game. I think trying to win the game at the time is more important than trying to send a message. JVG can do that after the game and the Rockets usually respond pretty well the following games after games like this.
There is no doubt about that, just read their quotes....they get it......and what would be wrong with sending a message in the first quarter...or beginning of the third? Yank em for 2 minutes.....send that message...hold them accountable....don't whine in the press after the game....... But, it is costing the team ANY chance of winning in the playoffs..... This team needs to LOCK down and play hard every night to try to get the 3 or 4 seed. Anything less, and the probabilities are that they are going fishing in the first round...again ! DD
This is a boatload of crap. These are not little 5 year olds that you have to sit down and explain every little thing to them. Just because he doesn't do things YOUR way doesn't mean he doesn't get his messages across. Every coach isn't like Popovich - and there's no reason they need to be. Leadership is about respect - and players respect JVG partially because he doesn't flip out over every stupid thing as people here do. If teams did things your way, they'd bench players every other game, play a 17 man rotation, and trade players every two weeks. And probably go somewhere close to 0-82.
JVG has said that our margin of error is small and any team can beat us. So, we shouldn't overreact over this loss. It happens sometimes, even to great teams (which, without Yao, we are NOT ... don't fool yourselves).
Right. Any team that loses to a bad team loses any chance of winning in the playoffs. I mean, Miami last year never lost to a bad team. Detroit, San Antonio, the Lakers - all those teams never, ever had bad games.
There's nothing wrong with trying that. It would have been a decent experiment. But that has nothing to do with accountability or teaching a lesson. If a coach thinks Snyder would give a better chance to win a game than Head, Bonzi, or Snyder, he should play him. He shouldn't make decisions based on teaching lessons.
No Major...I am saying it is costing the team home court advantage.....something this team DESPERATLY needs to make some noise in the playoffs. And there is NOTHING wrong with sending a message to players that are dogging it......they are professionals they know they are stinking, just read their quotes. What is wrong with pulling them for a minute or two, looking them in the eyes and saying " Are you ready to play now?" then putting them back in the game. Or are they that fragile and can't handle it? Popovich would do it......oh wait, that's right, he is a championship coach....never mind then. DD
It depends on your perspective, it is not about the message but about the team understanding that if they are not going to play hard there are others that will....competition is a good thing....it is a great motivating tool. I think JVG should stop whining after the games, and do something about it...DURING the games. DD
Did you guys read JVG's quotes the other day when Bonzi played well: He said something along the lines that he would have a hard time playing both Shane and Bonzi as if they're both can't get into the game if one is playing well. This kind thinking is why JVG will always be a 2nd tier coach and not lead this team far in the playoffs. He only has one gear and one approach to every problem. In his tool belt you will find only a hammer because that's the best tool for every job in his mind.
