actually manu only avg. 1.5 t/os his 1st year. not bad. and parker is just an amazing guard. its like saying look at lebron did out of HS
If JVG is right and he possible may be, then it was CD who made all the errors in bringing Steve Novac , JLIII, KS. and V.Span to our team, as they were not good enouigh to be on a good team like ours! If you think like JVG!
Dumb. With your reasoning, no team should ever have more than about 8 players on the roster - obviously, anyone who does not play is not good enough to be on the team, and was therefore a mistake to ever be brought in. Look up Dale Ellis. Just because you don't get a lot of minutes does not mean you are not a good player, it just means that the guy in front of you is better, at least for the moment. And it doesn't mean you don't eventually get your shot, if you deserve it.
that's the difference between you and jvg and me because while we believe that this team can win this year you don't.you think it this season was a wasted season but i don't,i feel we can win it and jvg feel that we have a chance this year.you feel that we should have developed young guys while i feel we shuld developed chemistry and win this year.
Why must you use the Sam comparison? It's completely different. I don't think Cassel was a turnover machine in the time he initially got minutes or he wouldn't have gotten them. Rudy's and JVG's systems require that the PG at least has a decent shot of hitting the 3pt shot. Sam was a threat. Rafer hits close to 40% right?(I really don't know) Vspan can not make that shot right now. I hope he improves his shot and can eventually start for us. I don't hate him. He does a lot of things well. Just not what we need right now. Playing would not have helped his 3. I think he will get a shot next year. I hope he improves his game over the offseason.
You know what? You don't know that for sure. There are plenty of people who understand the game of basketball, it is not rocket science. There are MANY approaches in the game of basketball to the same problem. Now, I am not saying I know more than JVG, but I am saying, that I would go at the problem in a different manner. And discussing ideas and thoughts on how to make the team better is what being a fan is all about. I never understand why people moan about passionate fans discussing ways to improve the team. My only issue with JVG is that, I believe, he gets too stuck in going about things one particular way that he misses out on other opportunities, whereas coaches I think are better than him adapt to the situation more quickly. For instance, we have the slowest big man in the league and bad perimeter defenders, so why not mix in a zone every now and again to protect Yao from the penetration fouls? That is how I would attack the problem, but JVG doesn't agree....doesn't make either one of us right or wrong, just gets a discussion going... Fair enough, but again I would attack the problem differently, when V_Span was running the point I would run more Pick and Rolls or pick and pops and asak him to penetrate more often than Rafer..... It would add an entirely new look, which the Rockets will need to compete with the more versatile teams IMHO. DD
Fair enough, and wasted season was a bit harsh on my part. If the team gets past the first round (And they should with HCA) then it will be a good stepping stone to future success. The only part about it being wasted is that if Billy, Steve, or JL3 are actually part of the future, the season was pretty much wasted for getting them to that point....IMHO. DD
JVG is starting Chuck over Juwan, Luther is our 6th man off the bench, Snyder was starting at the beginning of season until we realized that Battier wasn't fit to be PF. Heck...JVG even considered starting Novak a 2nd round rookie for a while... Didn't really work out, but JVG did put serious thought into it.
Fair points, but the issue in my mind is that while he gives thought, he is too quick to go back to the old standby. And, JVG cut Hayes, and had to be convinced to take him back....and he never wanted Luther...until injuries forced him to play him. That is my point, JVG is VERY slow to discover talent.....and slow to realize when talent has left the player.... DD
Man...DD and his strawman arguments. So now you're saying that JVG is to blame because he didn't stick with inexperienced rookies when they were causing us to lose games? The season was wasted because we're playing for home court advantage in the first round when in fact we should've been contending for a lottery pick and playing Spanoulis at starting PG? Man, you're a diehard JVG hater if I've ever seen one.
how do you know jvg had to be convinced to take him back? convinced by who? never wanted luther? where are you getting this?
I am not a hater, I am a Rocket lover, who disagrees with some of the things the coach does. Nothing wrong with that, it is what fans do...... And I NEVER said start V-Span, just saying the team should have spent some time developing it's rookies and younger players. DD
He was CUT by JVG and he talked about Lindsey convincing him to bring him back on a 10 day contract last year. Again, last year, he talked about how Luther was an undersized player and not his choice, but it was the choice of Lindsey and CD. I give it to JVG, he absolutely speaks his mind, which is refreshing. Cue the DD haters to come in and bash me but not contribute anything to the discussion. DD
There is not a single shred of empirical evidence saying we should have played V-Span. His best game in the entire season is barely average. His defense was overrated, and the team's movement was destroyed when he'd enter the game. I'm sure he played PG in practice, there's absolutely no doubt about it. In practice, you're playing Rafer. Now if you can't show a good game against the starting PG, and there's NO backup PG, then you don't deserve to play. It wasn't even a Bostjan Nachbar case where he was lighting it up in practice but not on the court. Here are the facts: This season, one game will probably decide homecourt advantage for us. If JVG had played around with the backup PG's, and we lost out on homecourt advantage, then I would crucify, as would many many many others I believe. We're about to hit 52 or 53 wins, Yao broke his leg, T-Mac hurt his back, and Bonzi was a bust. JVG is a coach of the year candidate. Did JVG make the right choice? HELL YES he made the right choice because I'd much rather have HCA than risk an expirement that never at any point in the season showed potential to help the team. You weigh the risk and the return. For a team trying to get homecourt, the risk was way too high considering how close we are/were to the Jazz. Now, if the were, say, in the Lakers position and could afford a few losses and still stay in our spot, then I would be more accepting of toying around with projects that don't seem very promising. V-Span didn't look promising on an NBA court, he wasn't impressive on the practice court, and there is no past evidence of potential considering the European game is different than the NBA, We haven't been out of the first round for God knows how long, T-Mac and Yao haven't, our star swingman seems to be deteriorating, and generally speaking, we have an ageing squad. So yeah, I'd say I agree with JVG's decision to NOT risk even a couple of games here and there considering a loss in the first round could be a devastating blow to this team's ambitions. DaDa, I respect your opinion that JVG should've developed the PG's earlier in the season. However, please admit that your opinion is based on: 1) Span's stellar play outside the NBA. 2) A hunch. Because we all saw that in the limited blow-out minutes of the games he played, he wasn't impressive at all. We all heard how V-Span had his best practice only after his mini-outburst. We heard that V-Span hasn't impressed much in practive, not enough to merit a bigger role. We also all know that V-Span now is the same as V-Span from day 1: no jumper, and lots of TO's.
i didnt think jvg even involves himself in the draft. as for chuck. ive never heard of that 'conversation'
