Bruce Bowen has defended Nowitzki effectively on the perimeter, as has McGrady. Battier has enough size to get the job done. I thought Hayes defended Nowitzki pretty well (outside of the fouls) in their first matchup as well.
i won't take anything i said about jho back. at the time that i said he sucked, he really sucked. he's playing pretty good now.
Nobody can block Dirk's turnaround when he's falling away. That's the shot every opposing team wants him to settle for. The most successful way to guard Dirk is to take away his dribble. Both Tracy and Shane are quick enough and have quick enough hands to do that. That turns Dirk into a statue, or at best he will shoot a runner off the dribble. Watch Bowen guard him; look at the replays of how Tracy shut him down in the playoffs. Because quickness is the key, 6'7 to 6'8 inch defenders are the ideal guarding him.
See, this comment makes no sense. Why doesn't it matter? The Spurs, Mavericks and Suns represent 10% of the league. Why doesn't his production against the remaining 90% of the league matter? Please explain. Are these the only opponents that matter? And your "off the bench" remark doesn't make sense either: Juwan WAS coming off the bench until Yao got injured. I'm not sure what lineup started last night but as far as I know he's still coming off the bench behind Hayes even though he's giving us more production out of that position than Hayes does. You just sound like a diehard Juwan-hater. Look - in spite of what he has done, we still know that Juwan does not complement Yao well at all. I don't think anyone is denying that, and in fact I think jopatmc's comment sums it up perfectly. Most of his minutes should be when Yao is out of the game. But man, give the man his due props. He just had three straight games with double digit rebounding and two straight double-doubles. He straight-up abused the Atlanta big men last night. He has proven that despite his shortcomings, he can still be an asset to this team.
Zactly. One addition. The best way to guard Dirk is to take away his starting point, which is the 3 point line and force him to dribble. Then slide a help defender to force him to pick up the dribble. Now, he's stuck with that fall away or he's got to get rid of the ball. Dirk is an outside in player. If you get him off the 3 point line, and take away the baseline and force him to the middle, his effectiveness goes down drastically. That's why McGrady worked so well against him. They kept trying to post up Dirk thinking that his size difference over McGrady would let him dominate there. But his postup game is poor.
I don't know if this makes any sense to you or if you have been keeping up with any NBA basketball in the last few years, but the Spurs, Suns and Mavericks are three teams in my mind and many others that are the legitimate championship contenders in the west. Basically the rockets are going to have to go through those teams to get to the finals. Those 3 teams that represent 10% of the league are the only teams that I can truly measure against the rockets. Also get your facts straight, Juwans 3 straight games with double digit rebounding and scoring has come while he is starter and Hayes has played behind him off the bench. I think Juwan can give this team much more production from off the bench against the 3 teams listed above. And bro I am not a Juwan hater, I just don't want to see him on the same court with Yao. Slow and slow = slower. If the rockets could trade Juwan and get younger or another asset, this is the time to do it.
juwan is a natural center. with yao, he can't play that position, only in backup duty. he looks really good next to deke or even hayes. the guys who do the dirty work mask his inept rebounding or really just his inept blocking out. with chuck hayes, even when yao is in, juwan can still be a contributor, he should just never get a lot of minutes next to yao.
I've never been a Juwan hater, but I do give him a lot of credit for stepping up his game. I also think that people on the board have a bad habit of picking out a few individuals that aren't perfoming well and bashing them. But you do have to wonder why he is rebounding so much better now if he was really giving 100% before. I get the feeling that he's always just thought of himself as a scorer, and even though he wasn't completely slacking before, he also wasn't completely taking defense and rebounding seriously either. He may have thought he could kind of slide by as long as his offense was pretty good, so you have to give credit to Van Gundy for cutting his playing time and motivating him. I've always liked Juwan personally and I hope he keeps up the good work.
I've always maintained JHo would be putting up double doubles on another team. With Yao out the Rockets are another team. When the stocks are high time to work a trade for someone who is more effective next to Yao.
No more Juwan hating please. I don't care if he goes 0 for 20. The guy plays smart and hard, something you can't say about Slomile Swift
JuWon the Great he feels good, he does good I gotta do something for my man Mutombo who has been great lately
I would love to get PJ Brown. I really admire Juwan, but once Yao comes back, PJ would be a little more effective. I think their salaries are similar and the Bulls are looking for scoring form their frontcourt. PJ is unhappy in Chicago about playing time and with our PF situation, he would get all the court time he wants and more. He would actually beg JVG (who plays his palyers until their legs fall off ) to take him out. With all the attention Tmac and Yao get, PJ would have a field day on the offensive glass. He could average 10PPG 14RPG (yes, I said it and play solid D which Juwan can't do because of his size and athleticism limitations
Ill admit I have been a JHo hater... my biggest complaint in the past he has been poor on defense usually resulting in 2 extra Yao fouls... but I will admit he has been playing quite well this season... with his reduced minutes... he has been playing hard on D... and talking in most part... smart shots on O... if he can keep this up I am think him and chuck may be a good tandem... for us...this year...
Here's a tip freemania to get on the internet (I'm in Hong kong too): Go to 'Tools' in IE. Open "Interent Options' Go to 'Connections' At the bottom is a 'LAN Settings' button. Press it. There are three options, check the last one and then type the following IP address into the first box '161.228.131.12' and the port should be '80'. Click OK, OK, and try to get on the internet. If that fails, go to 'Start' At the right side, click 'Connect to' Click 'Show All Connections' A window should open. Press 'Create a new Connection' at the left hand side, first option of the window. After opening the Setup wizard, click 'Next', 'Next' and click 'Set up my connection manually' then 'Next'. Put whatever you like in the ISP name, and if you have a netvigator account, put the information in 'Internet Account Information'. Click Ok, and then 'Finish' Connect to the newly created internet connection and hopefully you will get online. Lol, I might be wasting my time since the internet lines might already be fixed. Ah well, bumping up my post count is fun too
I could never understand the blind hate for JHo, always been a supporter of him... he really stepped it up again, love the 22 and 7 against Memphis, esp. 12-13 from FT... All the haters should chip in a few bucks and get him a new pair of sunglasses... What's the story with Bonzi anyway? Hasn't played the last couple of games... we need him now...
I'm glad we have him now. I think Truck Hayes taking his spot was a kick in the ass. He took this chance and ran with it. Nice work lately, JHo. I won't say that you've earned credibility yet, but I'll take production where I can get it.
Dang, I was hoping that would work for me... unfortunately it doesn't. Any idea when they'll fix the internet lines?
