Juwan shoplifting? Say it isn't so.

Even if the Rockets could void his contract for this, you know they wouldn't. They'd lose a starter and gain neither another player nor space under the cap. Les would save a little money is all. We'd have Stromile as our starter until we could find someone who could play.

It doesn't seem credible that Howard would shoplift sunglasses when he has obscene amounts of money. But, I highly doubt that the shopowner is intentionally falsely accusing him either. It sounds like a pretty swanky place; I doubt they want or need that sort of attention. If he has a clientele that actually buys $2,000 glasses, he makes good money.

First of all, lifting a pair of sunglasses ain't a felony and even if Juwan were so stupid as to lift these glasses. The case would never wind up in a court room, Juwan would settle this embarrassment and get the owner to drop any charges. If I was the owner, I would have found a way to contact Juwan and settle the whole matter before going to the press but the guy is just taking advantage of the opporunity to get some cheap publicity for his store.

IIRC, Eddie Griffin's, who was charged with far worse, contract was not voided. The Rox just did not pick up his option and he was waived, Juwan should still be here even if he somehow convicted of this misdemeanor.

Not that I know anything about this, but when a item is stolen that is worth $2000 where does this place the crime on the misdemeanor/felony scale?

Yeah! Doesn't this qualify as grand larceny? Any lawyer types out there that can answer this question?

I stand corrected, it is a felony. In Florida, shoplifting (over $300) is a felony.

I think this is probably all BS and I won't make a judgement until I see that video

Ditto. I refuse to judge. For all I know, maybe Juwan tried the shades and gave them back, and the video only shows Juwan being given the glasses. Possibilities:

    1. Juwan really did steal the glasses. (But why? He's a millionaire a hundred times over.)

    2. The employee stole them and blamed Juwan.

    3. The glasses may or may not be gone; what the store owner sees is an opportunity to extort some cash from Juwan.

if had that massive 100 million dollar contract that Juwan swindled from Washington, then you would have $2000 sunglasses and million dollar sneakers.

It would seem that the video tape would be locked in the police evidence locker and not available to store owner because it is evidence in a felony crime.

if you sign a 36 million dollar contract and both teams you are with go to the lottery, is that some kind of crime too?

Whatever turns out to be true, so many of the posts here at this point are just disgusting.

DaDakota, I can't believe you man. Do you think it's funny that a heretofore frikkin' Boy Scout gets accused of something and you want to invoke the infamous "conduct detrimental to the team" clause in NFL contracts?

That league has hell invoking it, but the NBA requires physical violence before it dares suspending a guy for two games.

For all you die-hard Rockets fans that are having fun with this, would you really want a Rocket to go down so that we can get some soft-cap salary relief? Utterly pathetic.

Can we plea bargain throwing Juwan in the slammer to get back Vernon and Ralph? Vernon and Ralph didn't steal sunglasses, they stole our hearts!

It is one thing to joke about the crime and even the player's poor game. Some posters here actually hope that he did commit the crime so that we could get rid of him. I mean, if it was Karl Malone, I would have understood the jubilations. What has Juwan Howard done to deserve this kind of venom?

    Wow this is unbelievable.
As for Juwan's roster spot, I'm personally fine with him because I doubt we can get anyone better.
