Seeing the contracts given out to decent starters, LMJ is gonna have to really fall off for his deal to look bad right now.
I was thinking the same thing. comes out to 15 mil a year correct? Tallion just got 17 mil, let that sink in.
It's crazy...it's as if everyone saw what the Astros did to win WS and now everyone wants good pitching. Astros, forever trend setter.
If we needed a starter, I would have loved to have seen the team sign Taillon for what he got. Sure he's been average since coming back from TJS, but he has the talent to be a top of the rotation guy, and I trust in our coaching to have maximized him.
LMJ's contract was discounted due to his injury history. And it's proven about fair. When fully healthy, he's a $25MM-$30MM type pitcher in today's market, but he's only about 50% healthy. So far, between 2021 and 2022, you basically got 1 regular season and 1 postseason out of him.
The contract started in 2022. Still plenty of time and LMJ's still young. The 6 man rotation should really help him.
Sure - in 2022, you also got basically half a season from him. Only a little regular season but a full postseason. 2021 was the opposite. Going forward over the next 4 seasons, I expect we'll probably get about 2 seasons of value from him based on his MLB history. I think his contract was priced pretty appropriately. Gave him some security, is not overwhelming for the Astros, and he's a huge postseason boost in whatever seasons he gets that far.
He started 8 games for 1.4 bWAR or 0.8 fWAR. At that rate 24 starts per season and bWAR 4.2 or 2.4 fWAR That's $4-7M per WAR depending on which you use. Either way it's not an overpay and the team will get value.
Absolutely it's not an overpay. I think the discussion was whether he was a steal at $15MM/yr. Like I said, his contract was already discounted for injury so he's giving us what we'd expect. Half a season of top tier pitching (hopefully the important half) for about $15MM/yr.
Dude came, immediately got us a ring, then got us another ring before leaving. Dead set Astros legend, and deserves every dollar (the Mets) are giving him. Now just imagine if our young JV clone can fill his shoes in the way Pena did to CC...
I appreciate his services to the Astros. Thanks for the good times JV. Good luck in the NL. I hope we don't meet in the WS. I'd get more joy out of beating other NL teams.
Hunter Brown replacing Justin Verlander in the Rotation. Hunter Brown got Postseason Experience and a Championship. While watching all of the Starters putting great efforts.
Getting to go up against Verlander in the world series is two automatic wins, so I'd look forward to it.
Not happy with JV leaving but he got us two WS championships and two other appearances . wish him the best. I’m going to missing seeing Kate Upton in Stros gear. Damn did she make orange stripes sexy.
